Pretty cool Dean - I'm doing an HCI POC for a company in a few weeks, Pretty excited!! Also considering offering it as a HaaS from my datacenter shortly. I think it only makes sense for you to dive in on deploying AVD on HCI next!
I see at the 4:00 mark, the vms deployed are AzSHOST1 and 2, are these the vms that would in a real enviornment represent the physical hosts onprem for Azure HCI hardware? For Example if you deployed onsite, but then just opened the Azure portal you would then see the "hosts" onsite that are running the Azure arc services?
Thank you so much for this great video. As always, you have described the whole process in a perfectly understandable way. I would love to see the AVD extension, as this is highly requested from our partners.
Great knowledge dump, Dean! I wish i could do a thousand likes on this one. Question: Is is possible to add the existing on-prem hosts to Azure stack HCI just by installing the agents on the host? Think of an RDS workload that is already present on prem and it only makes sense to add it as a new hostpool on AVD for better management..
Azure Stack HCI requires a unique version of windows, so you would need to wipe the host and rebuild. Then you might be able to use it...if it meets the hardware requirements for HCI...and you have identical hosts, because nodes in a cluster need to have everything the same...then yeah, it can work.
Yes you can! You could do EVERYTHING with PowerShell if you want...but I have found that most automation deployments are VERY HARD for most people, unless you understand how it works in the portal first. that's why I make videos like this one 😉 and this HCIBox tool does the entire build through automation. Just search youtube for Deploy Azure Stack HCI...you will either see videos that are 3-4 hours long...or playlists with dozens of 30+ minute videos The HCIBox solution...under 10 minutes I show you how its done, and the automated deployment takes about 2 hours total so you can start using it FAST!
Hi Dean, i have a physical server 2016 standard with AD and 30 users joined via Active Directory . The server is Proliant 350 with raid 5 (3 x900GB) and 1.2 TB used storage. The server is 7 years old, I want to migrate it to Azure and not create new profiles. Is Azure Stack a good solution? If no what is the best solution? if yes, can I ask help from you?
If running your AD server on prem is a requirement, yes it is the right solution…but that is a lot of hardware for ONLY Active Directory. The question REALLY is…why does AD need to be on prem…and yes I can help ☺️
Hi Dean. Thank you for your response. I do not need to keep it AD on the on-prem server. I need to migrate the AD to the cloud seamlessly and keep the profiles intact. use azure migration (agentless). how do i connect with you?
if you ONLY have 1 Domain Controller you can use Azure Migrate to move it to the cloud. If you have more than 1 DC already...easiest way is build a new VM in the cloud, promote to DC then after AD replication is complete move all the FSMO roles to the cloud DC and decommission the on prem DCs. Email or DM my LinkedIN / Twitter (x) account is best for private chats if you need more help! 🙂
ah...well kinda. I have covered ARC and Azure Hybrid before, but YES, first time diving into HCI...but check this one out too. ua-cam.com/video/RRYhlZCLATQ/v-deo.html

Awesome content mate you are a gem! Your presentation skills are top notch.
Thank you, does that mean you have subscribed and shared The Azure Academy with everyone in your social media 😬☺️
This is fantastic information! thanks for making it so quick and well condensed, congrats!
Glad it was helpful, thanks for your comment!

Yes they are
a 32 core azure VM....
now's that's a resource you don't want to forget to delete 🤑
oh yeah!
Awesome
Thanks Dean ❤
You bet!
Thanks Dean 😊!
My pleasure!

Do you know if windows ad is a requirement for hci or can you use Entra id or Entra domain services
Azure Stack HCI hosts build a windows cluster, which is designed to require AD
BUT THE VMs you deploy on Azure stack can be cloud joined

Can you cover AVD deployment on HCI and upgrade from 22H2 to 23H2
Here is how to setup AVD on HCI ua-cam.com/video/RRYhlZCLATQ/v-deo.htmlsi=sqVpYxHPU8TZeosw

Is there a list of servers that support Azure HCI?
Check this out

Next time we should do together :)
😉
The background clacks in the music is super annoying to listen to.
thanks for your feedback...is there ANY background music you think would be good...or there should be no music at all?
New move ......
...Really? why do you say that?
@@AzureAcademy new move for new episode.....
not sure what you mean...what "New Move" for the new episode are you talking about specifically?
- thanks!
@@AzureAcademy yes talking about AZ HCI
