After hearing this story and seeing the pressure on Ralph and Dale Sr...it make me think about the burden that has unfairly been on Jr. He suddenly became the leader of the family and of NASCAR. The pressure must have been immense these past 20 yrs

He loved jr so much he laughed at Gordon compared to Dale jr. He actually laughed at Gordons special driving. And was right. If jr does not want to be a negligent person. Then he might not want to be intense at driving

Hearing stories like this goes a long way toward healing some of the open wounds Teresa left on so many of Dales's fans when he died. A lot of us needed some closure but it wasn't in Teresa's heart to let that happen. So even after 21 years, family stories like these make Dales fans feel closer to him and get a little of the closure that they need.

Anthony Nelson, Teresa is an evil greedy witch. She won't even allow Earnhardt family members to visit Dale Sr's grave or Dale Sr's property. She even won't allow Dale Jr, and Kelly, to have personal items that still belong to them.

I think this story is a seminal moment in Dale's life that we the fans never really knew about that informs a lot about his personality. Like Cathy said, it changed him and made him bitter, and it doesn't seem like he fully got over it until well in to the 90's.

Best episode ever! The fact that this one was all family is special in itself! I’ve been a fan of Kelly since her racing days, and have always felt that she has been an “out of sight” force that has guided Dale Jr. to the successful career he’s had, and she probably still does! I’d like to see an episode on just her story!

Every single time I see a picture of Ralph and Dale standing next to their car I immediately think of my Grandfather and my dad standing next to theirs for our old home track at Utica Rome Speedway. Ralph and my grandpa literally looked like they could've been brothers. The resemblance was that strong.

This video is such a powerful and emotional glimpse into the Earnhardt family's history. Cathy’s story about Ralph Earnhardt’s untimely passing and the impact it had on the family is incredibly moving. It’s heartbreaking to hear how the closed shop door marked the beginning of such a profound loss. Yet, Dale Earnhardt’s determination and work ethic in the face of adversity are truly inspiring. It’s a reminder of the sacrifices made for success and the price it often takes on personal lives. The love and strength within this family is evident in every word shared.

I too lost my dad in 1991, he was only 51 and I was 26. It destroyed our family as well, he was our rock and protector. It hurts just as much today as it did then. Aunt Cathy was able to put words to how I have felt all these years. it was hard to hear but it helped me too. I think Jr & Kelley benefited by learning new things about their dad that may give them comfort by looking at a few things with a different viewpoint.

I don’t know that any two people learn in the same way. Or that school records can really tell you much about someone’s intelligence. The highest & lowest extremes possibly, but for most of us I don’t think it tells us much. On the other hand, some of the most brilliant people I’ve ever known didn’t have more than a few years of ‘classroom’ education. Some not a single day of it. Yet they could solve or build or do… just about anything under the sun. We all know the importance of education. However today, somehow my sense is that we take a fairly narrow look at what ‘an education’ actually consists of. It is so much more than what a young person will encounter in a school classroom. Not to knock classrooms at all, but I think we all might already know that in our hearts.
From the outside looking in, and in the case of Dale Sr in particular, I can’t even fathom a way in which he could reach the highest of successes in the sport & in business like he did and not be an exceptionally intelligent man. Perhaps not the most ‘emotionally intelligent’ as so many fathers are not, but in so many of the other metrics of intelligence - undoubtedly and absolutely.
