I understand and shall do it next reaction 😁 if it's any constellation I have a full on studio set up with top range monitoring speakers so even without I get the full effect 😁✌️ hoped you still enjoyed the reaction regardless. 😀
@@bignickofficial Sorry, but no audio set up, no matter the receiver, the equalizer, or speaker setup, can match the pure immersive sound of headphones. You'll understand when you try them. Relisten to this song with good headphones, there is a difference. Even if you can hear and feel every note with regular setup, headphones is just a different experience. The difference in driving a Maserati, or a Panda.
You’re correct. Matt (in the white jacket) is the “new guy” who’s been around since 2017. He’ll always be the new guy as long as no one else leaves. I’ve said many silent prayers to ensure that never happens 😊. Great reaction, as usual - thanks for coming back to them again!
Matt (white jacket) is the bass that stepped in when Avi left. Scott (blonde) is just amazing and can hit about anything, you know Mitch, Kirsti has such a beautiful voice, and Kevin is the beatbox and also has a fantastic voice.
Great reaction! A pentatonic (stylized as Pentatonix) scale is 5 notes, and PTX has the voices and ranges to cover many octaves of that scale. It's their arrangements that sets them apart. You have a deep PTX rabbit hole to discover. I look forward to more PTX reactions
Tall blond guy is Scott Hoying-Baritone; the girl is Kirsten Maldonado-Mezzo-Soprano; the guy with the hat is Mitch Grassi; Counter-Tenor; the guy in the white jacket is new singer Matt Sallee-Basso Profundo; and Kevin Olusola-Tenor, Beatboxer, Cellist, and Cellist beatboxer. Scott, Kirsten, and Mitch went to high school together in Arlinton, TX (between Dallas & Ft Worth, TX. After graduation, they went to different colleges to major in music. They got together for a competion called "Sing-Off," but groups needed to have 5 musicians, that's when they were referred the other two, Kevin, nd the original Basso-Profundo, Avi Kaplan.
Pentatonix They won The Sing Off in 2011. They made a guest starring appearance on America′s Got Talent as non−competitors a couple of years after that. The founding members are:- Scott Hoying (tall blond guy, natural baritone but has an impressive five−to−six octave range, can go all the way up to high tenor and down to bass, sings the bass lines when the usual bass singer takes the lead);
Kirstin "Kirstie" (Rhymes with "Thirsty") Maldonado (the only female member, natural mezzo soprano, but can go down to low alto and as high as upper soprano, also can sing in whistle notes that are off the scale); For a time in 2018 between the group’s tours, had the female lead on Broadway in the production of “Kinky Boots”. Mitch Grassi (a true contra−tenor, can hit high notes in his chest voice with ease and go WAY higher in his falsetto, also with ease); Avriel "Avi" Kaplan (dark beard and long hair), true basso profundo, trained as an opera singer, also can go up into the tenor range; and Kevin "KO" Olusola (beatboxer extraordinaire, also is a world−class cellist who plays cello on some of their songs, has a beautiful high tenor voice and gets occasional lead vocal solos as well, graduated pre−med from Yale and speaks several languages including Mandarin Chinese). Kirstie, Scott & Mitch grew up together in Arlington, Texas, and began performing together as children in local youth musical theater. They ended up in high school together and performed in the choir. While there, they formed an a cappella group called The Trio which had several performance videos go viral on UA-cam, most notably a cover of Lady Gaga′s "Telephone". The three of them are best friends and consider themselves to be almost siblings. Scott & Kirstie (who were a class year ahead of Mitch) both graduated high school in 2010 and went their separate ways to different colleges, Scott at USC and Kirstie at Oklahoma. While at USC, Scott joined a USC−based a cappella group called the SoCal VoCals, where he met alumnus Ben Bram, who was now an arranger and vocal coach for the NBC TV show The Sing Off, an a cappella competition show. Ben convinced Scott to get The Trio to audition for the show. The three reunited (Mitch had to skip high school graduation ceremonies to go) in Los Angeles for the audition. They found out that the rules had changed, so they needed at least five members to audition. Ben put them together with Avi (a native of Visalia, California), who he knew from Avi′s performing days at Mount San Antonio College in California. They found Kevin (from Kentucky) through one of his UA-cam videos that had gone viral featuring him playing the cello and beatboxing at the same time, a talent that Kevin coined as "Cello−Boxing". Kevin arrived in Los Angeles literally the day before the audition! Scott came up with the name "Pentatonix" after the pentatonic scale. They performed a re−arrangement of "The Telephone" for the audition and passed, despite having been together as a five−piece group for less that 24 hours! They won The Sing Off that season (all of the performances are available on UA-cam), in which they received a substantial cash prize AND a record contract with Epic Records. They pooled their prize winnings together and all moved to Los Angeles, and all got apartments right next door to each other in the same building. But just a week later, Epic dropped them because the marketing people didn′t think an a cappella group could sell records. Instead of giving up, they were determined and began recording their own songs on UA-cam, hiring Ben Bram as their producer and arranger. These usually consisted of the five of them sitting on a couch and performing cover songs live. Several of the videos went viral, and Sony (the parent company of Epic) decided to give them another chance by placing them on one of their smaller labels, Madison Gate. They released two secular EPs and one Christmas EP on Madison Gate, all of which were strong sellers. But when their cove r of a medley of songs by Daft Punk not only went super−viral, but also won them their first Grammy, they were promoted all the way up to RCA Records, Sony′s top label. They began writing and producing their own songs in addition to their covers, began putting out a Christmas album just about annually (which has become their best−selling genre), and have had multi−platinum album sales, sold−out world tours, and have won two additional Grammys. Avi began getting burned out with all of the touring and heavy recording schedule, was suffering from anxiety and personal problems, and learned that his mother had been diagnosed with cancer in 2017. He announced he was departing from the group and taking some time away from the music industry. Matt Sallee (from Baltimore) joined them in September 2017. He did only become official when they renewed their RCA contract in February 2018, but he recorded with them in September as a featured artist and went on their Christmas tour as a featured artist, as well. When he attended the audition for the group, he had already mastered the Bass part for most if not all their past catalogue. He was successful and has proved that he fits in well with the group. If you think there have been other changes to the line up - look again. This is the ONLY change. Kirstie and Mitch are like chameleons and change looks frequently. After a year away from music, Avi has now returned as a phenomenal solo artist in the Folk/Americana/Roots genre. Ben Bram has been in charge of their production, including arranging and directing from the beginning. He is often referred to as the sixth member. Scott and Kevin are major players in the arrangements, but every member contributes. good watch is "The Recording of Evergreen" where a camera was invited into the studio for the second week of recording/ Also, all members are songwriters for both Pentatonix and their own solo work. Ed Boyer who mixes everything of theirs (even the HWB Livestream) is the one who pulled Ben Bram into the sing off in the first place. They were nominated for a 4th Grammy for their album Evergreen, but didn't win. Kirstie became a new mum which caused a pause in touring after their Evergreen Christmas tour 2021. Mid March 2023 Kirstie has announced that she is engaged to Ben Hausdorff, their videographer. No dates YET! They have a star on the Hollywood walk of fame installed in February 2023. They are the only a capella group with a star! Things you need to know because if you get these wrong Pentaholics will come after you with pitch forks and torches! Ha Ha!! 1- There is NO Auto-Tune; what you hear is actually what they sing. They really are that good. One exception is the 90's Dance Medley where Cher used autotune as an effect - so they had to. 2- What produces everything that you hear in the video, you see in the official video. If there is an instrument used in the music, you see it on screen. In the 2022 Christmas album, there are some instruments not featured throughout the album. 3- They never release something on video they can’t reproduce with the exact same quality live on-stage.
The Sound of Silence," originally "The Sounds of Silence," is a song by the American music duo Simon & Garfunkel, and was written by Paul Simon. The duo's studio audition of the song led to a record deal with Columbia Records, and the original acoustic version was recorded in March 1964 at Columbia Studios in New York City for their debut album, Wednesday Morning, 3 A.M. Released on October 19, 1964, the album was a commercial failure and led to the duo disbanding; Simon returned to England, and Art Garfunkel to his studies at Columbia University. In 1965, the song began to attract airplay at radio stations in Boston and throughout Florida. The growing airplay led Tom Wilson, the song's producer, to remix the track, overdubbing electric instruments and drums. This remixed version was released as a single in September 1965. Simon & Garfunkel were not informed of the song's remix until after its release.Wikipedia😊
Kirstin, Mitch and Scott were in high school choir together. They know what each other can do. White jacket is Matt Sallee. He replaced Avi Kaplan who was a basso profundo. Matt cannot sing as low as Avi. He did not fill Avi's shoes. He brought his own. That is the only change.
I can tell how impressed you are with PTX. As a huge fan of theirs, I can tell you that you need to listen to them with headphones on. It really makes a difference!
Every one of the six people that have sung with them (first Avi and now Matt as the bass. The rest of the group is the same the whole way through) sports a vocal range of at least five octaves. I am versatile (capable of tenor through a middle bass passing through the entire baritone scale), and I only have three and a half octaves (perhaps slightly more but not much) if that gives you an idea. The girl is Kirsten or Kirstie. She is an alto through mezzo-soprano and into the sopranos. Mitch, of course, is the guy with the high voice, the one that Mitch-slapped you to great advantage. He is referred to as a countertenor, but he can do from tenor through countertenor to a boy soprano without moving into his head voice. The first guy is named Scott. He is their baritone and secondary bass. This means that if their bass is doing the lead line, Scott drops down to cover the bass line. He can go from bass through baritone and through the tenor range. He also has a quality falsetto. Kevin, the guy on the far right when you look at their faces, the dark longcoat, is their beatboxer and a natural tenor that can sing, at need, from high baritone throughout the tenor ranges, and he has a spectacular falsetto, perhaps the best one in the group. The guy on the left in the white longcoat is Matt. He is their normal bass. His range is from basso profundo (almost) through the tenors and can also provide falsetto. Another thing. Kirstie is by far their best belter, although Scott is no slouch at it. They can all belt if needed, but Scott and Kirstie are the best at it. Does any of this help at all?
Lol…Mitch is at his most abnormal when he is being normal…In this and Amazing Grace he “just” sings in his super stupendous angelic voice in his solo and people are “surprised” that he doesn’t go supersonic. To me that is the ultimate “Mitch Slap” (if that makes any sense).
@@xbubblehead Amazing harmonizing from all but I love the higher notes from Mitch & Kirstin !!! Matt, Kevin & Scott are amazing as well !!! WHAT A GIFT TO ALL HUMANITY !!!
Spot on! Matt replaced Avi and everyone else is from the very beginning. There are two chameleons, actually: Mitch and Kirstie. The answer to “Is that Mitch or Kirstie?” is always “Yes!”.
You should start with the Sing Off from 2011. They were just young kids when they competed. You will get to know them and watch them flourish and become the premier A Capella group in the world.
You got it right there at the end. The four to the right are all original members. White jacket guy is bass Matt Sallee, he replaced bass Avi Kaplan, bearded long hair guy, in 2017. That has been the only change in the line-up. Although they change their looks quite often, it’s always Kirstie and it’s always Mitch. Scott, the tall white guy, winds up in the middle of the pack a lot because he’s 6’3” and they look lopsided when he’s anywhere else. He, Mitch and Kirstie (rhymes with “thirsty”) trade off singing lead. There’s a behind-the-scenes mini-doc called Recording Evergreen that shows the pains they take with the vocals in the studio and how their sound comes together. I enjoyed your reaction very much, thanks! Peace from Ohio …
The original PTX was Scott (your "lead singer), Kirstie and Mitch. Before the 2011 Sing Off US competition, they added Kevin Olusola (beat boxer) and Avi Kaplan (bass) Avi left in 2017 due to personal reasons. He was replaced by Matt Sallee in 2017 (whom he knew, actually, from other a capella association). Matt is a great fit with the group "and they lived happily every after!"
Hola Nick! Ellos son en verdad fantásticos, además de la enorme calidad vocal, está el compromiso, esfuerzo y dedicación del grupo, ellos hacen que sea un gusto escucharlos.
9/10 i use my headphones but I have the best studio monitor speakers money can buy so once in a while I like to get use out-of them I still hear everything crisp and clear 😁✌️
They got their start on a show called The Sing Off. Season 3. All if their performances are available. The deal was, if they won. They would ger $200,000 and a recording contract. Spoiler Alert They won, moved fro Texas to LA and two weeks later the company dropped them. Saying that they weren't marketable. Rhey took the money and started making UA-cam videos. The rest, as they say.... Is history. They have well over 200 videos. Including a MASSIVE amount of Christmas music. I want to TOTAL agree with the previous comment. You REALLY can't HEAR ALL of their amazing intricacies AND vocals....without at least ear buds. With Pentatonix, it really IS a must. This was GREAT. Like I said. I've missed you. Good to see you back AND doing PTX. Have a STELLAR day.
Avi was the original Bass singer, he left in 2017 and Matt Sallee joined the same year. Scott Hoying is the tall blonde lead singer, Then of course Mitch Grassi , Kirsten Maldonado is the female of course. And Kevin Olusola is the beat boxer. Yes Scott, Mitch, Kirsten and Kevin are the original members. Actually Scott, Mitch & Kirsten all grew up together in Arlington, Texas. Kevin the beat boxer was at Yale getting his Pre-Med degree before joining them he is known for Cello Boxing. He is also a classically trained Cellist, he also speaks fluent Mandarin.
I think he's got it! By Jove, he's got it! Matt joined the group when Avi went to pursue a solo career - the other 4 are all original members! Love your reactions!
Scott, Mitch, and Kirstie have been singing together for 20 years or so. Avi and Kevin joined for the Sing Off. Avi left and was replaced by Matt 5 years ago.
Thank you, love your reaction ❤. I also love your British accent (for me from Germany 🇩🇪 it's easier to understand than American 🙈). And pleeeease use headphones 👌🏼
Someone commented on a thread about this that the Simon and Garfunkel version was the warning, the Disturbed version was the destruction, and this version is the hope.
You MUST listen to their cover of "The Carol of the Bells' Not a lot of words but what they do with their voices will knock you off your seat!! Also Check out "Daft Punk" which they won a Grammy for and produced and edited in Kevin and Avi's apartment !!! WOW ! Talk about low budget but FANTASTIC rewards. It will blow your mind. Above All, listen to EVERYTHING they do because you can't go wrong with any of it and they never cease to bring something new. Have Fun !
Pentatonix suggestions? First, other commenters are right. Wear headphones. I don't care how good your speaker system is, headphones are better. • Think of a song that you used to like but don't any more, either because you've heard it too many times or because you've heard too many bad renditions of it. Type the name of that song into UA-cam's search engine and add either "PTX" or "Pentatonix." If they've -covered- upgraded it, that will find it. Once you've found a Pentatonix release of this song that you're tired of, listen to it. It will likely become your new favorite. Oh, you want SPECIFIC recommendations? Okay. • "Bohemian Rhapsody" • "Imagine" (Be sure to watch the official video. The live version is just as good musically, as always with Pentatonix, but the official video has important video effects that can't be duplicated live.) • "Thank You" • "The Prayer" • "Daft Punk Medley" (their first Grammy winner) • "Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy" (their second Grammy winner) • "Jolene" (their third Grammy winner) • "O Come All Ye Faithful" • "Light in the Hallway" • "The Lucky Ones" • "Run to You" • "Todrick Hall - The Wizard of Ahhhs (ft. Pentatonix)" (This one comes with an inducement and two warnings. *The inducement* is that the copyright is owned by Todrick Hall, *not* RCA, Pentatonix's record label, and it's RCA that gets Pentatonix reactions blocked on UA-cam for copyright violations. Todrick seems to be more interested in publicity than in stomping on innocent reactors. You shouldn't need to do anything to obscure the video in order to keep your reaction up. *The first warning* is that "Wizard of Ahhhs" is an homage to "The Wizard of Oz," the original 1939 film starring Judy Garland. If you've never seen "The Wizard of Oz," "Wizard of Ahhhs" will make no sense, so make sure that you're familiar with the original first. *The second warning* is that "Wizard of Ahhhs" is almost seven minutes long. Be sure to set aside enough time for your reaction.)
Love your reaction. Scott (tall, blonde guy) is actually more of a baritone (mid-range male voice). But he has a real big range and covers the bass line when Matt (or Avi previously) sings the melody. Matt (black guy in white- bass singer) replaced Avi (basso profundo) a few years ago (2017??). Mitch is a counter tenor and Kirsten is a mezzo soprano. Kevin (beat boxer) has a high clear tenor voice. From what I understand, Mitch, Kirsten, and Scott went to high school together in Texas. They competed on a singing show (the Sing-Off) and added Kevin as a beat boxer and Avi as the bass to fill out the group. That is Pentatonix in a nutshell.
Wonderful reaction, and welcome back! I'd like to add Run To You to the suggestions for a reaction. They wrote it and you really get amazing close 5-part harmony.
You can call him the lead singer...he put the group together. You have such a great look and great facial expressions for doing these reactions. Some of my personal favorites of theirs are: Come Along, Hallelujah, Can't Hold Us, Havana,The Prayer, Daft Punk, Aha, Bohemian Rhapsody, My Favorite Things, Mr. Grinch, and Radioactive, but you can't go wrong with anything they do.
Others have covered who sings what and such in a good way, so I will just say this, Scott, Mitch, and Kirstin have known each other and sang together in school choirs, and community theatre since about the 8th grade (two of them met, and then met the other like a year later) but they all grew up living like 3 houses away from each other, that is one reason they are so good together, they've been together for so long, especially during those years when voices were being finalized, and they learned to just match each other.
Love your reaction nick and great to seeing you do a ptx reaction. Would love to see your reaction to new rules/ are you that somebody as for me Kevin and Matt are fire in that one 😊
Mitch Grassi, Kirstie Maldonado,, and Scott Hoying, (the guy in the middle) went to high school together in Texas USA. Matt Sallee replaced Avi Kaplan at Bass, which means a 4-5 octave range.
Scott (tall blonde guy), Kirstie (rhymes with thirsty), and Mitch knew each other in high school and sang as a trio. When they were 19 years old, they decided to try out for the TV show The Sing Off, an accappello competition (you can see the episodes on youtube.) They needed a bass and a beatboxer. Avi joined, and then they found Kevin, the Beatboxer on UA-cam. Kevin had just graduated from college with a premed degree. Avi left the group in 2017, and Matt came on as the new bass.

One hundred percent agree with you that they have the harmony that nobody else have. There are other ocapella groups out there such as voiceplay, home free, to name a few. And they are all very good and I'm not taking anything away from them and their talent. , but to me p t x is on a level above all of them. And of course they were 1st and they were the 1st ones to make acapella back into the mainstream. If it ever was mainstream, And by far the most decorated . There isn't a genre that they can't tackle and excel at either.

I just stumbled onto your channel and really enjoyed your reaction. Coming from Florida, USA I am in love with your look and accent!! Check out some of their concert performances, they just wrapped up their concert tour in Europe.
A very fun video is a cover of a song by Cosmo Sheldrake, COME ALONG.. You have only scratched the surface of their musical genius! May I also suggest DAFT PUNK Medley (the one that won them their first Grammy) and BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY are popular covers but they also have incredible (INCREDIBLE!) originals... one of their first was SING
The only new person in the group Is Matt (a member since 2017) in the white jacket. He replaced Avi (dark hair with beard), All the other members: Kirsten, Scott, Mitch, Kevin (the beat boxer) are original members.😊

Nice reaction!! Okay... Scott Hoying ( the guy in the jacket you want) is a baritone with a massive vocal range ( actually they all have at least a 5 octave range...and Mitch, Kirstie and Scott all have 6 octave). Scott takes on the bass while the bass sings a verse or lead. Mitch Grassi is a natural countertenor and a chameleon...and possibly an alien with his sweet high notes Kirstin (Kirstie) Maldonado is a mezzo soprano and a great belter! She and Mitch can match each other for the high notes and sometimes it's difficult to tell them apart. Matt Sallee ( in the white jacket) is the new bass (Avi Kaplan left in 2017 and Matt joined 6 months later). His warm tones are really wonderful. Kevin Olusola is the beatboxer+. He's kind of a genius. He also plays sax and cello both at concert levels... and has done at Carnegie Hall when he was in his late teens. He graduated Pre-Med at Yale just before joining PTX in the Sing-Off where the group began. He also speaks several languages including Mandarin. Oh...and Kevin does sing. He has a lovely tenor voice and joins in with backing vocals when not actively beatboxing.

It is quite long - 14+ minutes and is a little dated now (Feb 2020) but is a good watch ua-cam.com/video/lDxIfwfCmQE/v-deo.html&pp=ygUdYmVnaW5uZXJzIGd1aWRlIHRvIHBlbnRhdG9uaXg%3D. Things you need to know because if you get these wrong “Pentaholics” will come after you with pitch forks and torches! Ha Ha Ha!! 1- There is NO Auto-Tune; what you hear is actually what they sing. They really are that good. One exception is the 90's Dance Medley where Cher used auto-tune as an effect - so they had to. 2- What produces everything that you hear in the video, you see in the official video. If there is an instrument used in the music, you see it on screen. In the 2022 Christmas album, there are some instruments not featured throughout the album. 3- They never release something on video they can’t reproduce with the exact same quality live on-stage.
Yes, Pentatonix are in a category of their own! This song is spectacular! The original bass, Avi Kaplan, has gone on to a fantastic solo career of his own that you really should check out! Avi is extremely talented and versitile : His powerful "Change On The Rise" , his gently beautiful "Avi Kaplan, All Is Well, 7 Layer Session #126 " his jamming "WhenI'm A Fool, Live at Sunset Sound" are just the tip of what he can do. One doesn't just hear Avi's music, his velvet voice makes you feel it, too!
You need to listen to Voctave. They are the next step above Pentatonix when it comes to harmonies. Most of the singers have worked for Disney. You really should listen to their Disney Princess Medley
About the names -- here's a concert video from Pentatonix's concert in Perth, Australia last month, singing their original song, "Can't Sleep Love". At the beginning, Scott introduces the members. ua-cam.com/video/elP0uqPlyMo/v-deo.html
The original bass in Pentatonix is Avi (pronounced Ah'-vee, emphasis on the first syllable) Kaplan. Avi is another lyric bass. He's an operatically trained basso profundo - his lowest notes actually HAVE blown out speakers in live performance - but his range extends well into the tenor range. He left in 2017 for personal reasons but has since gone on to have a very successful solo career; you can find his UA-cam channel by searching on "Avi Kaplan." I strongly recommend subscribing. Note: Avi is the ONLY member who has ever left Pentatonix. But Mitch and Kirstie are chameleons. They change their hair color and style. Kirstie has had some work done on her lips. Mitch's facial hair style changes. For a while his weight tended to yo-yo. Kirstie's figure is more mature now (she was just 19 when Pentatonix began in 2011). So people frequently think they see someone new in Pentatonix when it's really Mitch or Kirstie. Always wait until you hear them sing; their voices don't lie.
The first singer is Scott. The guy in the white jacket is Matt who replaced Avi. The woman is Kirstin. You know Mitch. Finally the beatboxer is Kevin who also sings tenor. This group has been together 12 plus years
Scott, the 1st singer is the Baritone, but he can go very low when needed. Both Kirsty and Mitch change their appearance often, and those 3 are the ones from HS, that were friends and started Pentatonix. Matt, Bass took over from Avi who left the band and then went Solo, and Kevin is the Beat Boxer, but also sings, see...... Imagine and Amazing Grace. Kevin also is a cellist. Also check out, Scott and Mitch , you tube channel Superfruit. They do Frozen Medley, with Kirsty. And Scott and Mitch do Dyfing Gravity, and The Promise. All worth checking out!
You should be informed that this isn't a live performance; it's an official video. There may be a few official videos that actually are live performances, but this isn't one of them. What that means is that this was recorded in the studio and then they lip-synched in the video. The reason it looks so genuine is that the way they lip-synch is to actually sing the song while they're filming the video. This keeps them in proper time to the music they've already recorded and in synchronization with each other, and it means that all of their movements are genuine. Their entire mouths and throats move properly. They take a breath when they would normally take a breath. They move their bodies in the ways that most support the notes they're singing. It all looks genuine, because it is genuine. But the audio was still recorded in the studio and processed accordingly.
You should check out their Sing Off performances (3rd Season) if you want to know more and see how they got their start! There's 12 performances + the Finale where they announced the winner (spoiler, they won). Be sure to find the ones with the pre-post interviews and judges commentary they give a lot of history on the band's start!
1. They don't have one lead singer. Pentatonix is a true ensemble group; they select the lead based on the person who is best for the song. 2. I don't know where they get their clothing; I suspect that much of it is tailored specifically for them. 3. The singers: • First verse: Scott Hoying, lyric baritone. Scott's vocal range begins somewhere in the middle of the bass range and extends well into the tenor range, with some good falsetto on top of that. I believe he has a range of five or six octaves. • Second verse: Mitch Grassi (pronounced Grah'-see, emphasis on the first syllable), contratenor. Mitch has a range of just over six octaves. He's able to move between his chest voice, his head voice, and his falsetto seemingly effortlessly. His voice has been described by many as "a once in a generation voice." Shawn Stockman, of Boyz II Men, described his voice as "one of the prettiest voices I have ever heard in my life." Most of us just call his voice "angelic" and leave it at that. • Third verse: Matt Sallee (pronounced Suh-lee', emphasis on the second syllable), lyric bass. It's hard to say exactly what Matt's range is, because it seems to still be growing. When I heard them live at their concert in Denver on November 20, 2022 it sounded to me like his lowest note was true basso profundo low - low enough to blow out speakers if the singer isn't careful - and his highest note was near the upper end of the tenor range. • Fourth verse: Kirstin (also known as Kirstie, rhymes with thirsty) Maldonado, the only woman in Pentatonix, mezzo soprano. Mezzo soprano is the lowest soprano range, just above alto. Kirstin is a mezzo soprano because that's the range she's most comfortable in, but her actual range extends from the low end of the alto range (though not contralto, which is more like a baritone range) through the high end of coloratura soprano, the highest soprano range. She can sing as high as Mitch. And she has some gorgeous whistle notes on top of all that. • The fifth member of Pentatonix is Kevin Olusola (pronounced Oh-loosh"-oh-luh', primary emphasis on the second syllable, secondary emphasis on the fourth syllable), beatboxer extraordinaire. There actually are a few occasions when Kevin isn't too busy beatboxing to sing. Kevin is a tenor, though his voice occasionally dips into the top reaches of the baritone range, and he's known for the great beauty of his falsetto. Kevin has perfect pitch and is classically trained since childhood on piano, saxophone, and cello. When he was a teenager he performed twice at Carnegie Hall, once on the saxophone and once on the cello. He beatboxes while playing the cello, a technique he refers to as "celloboxing." He has a pre-med degree from Yale, and had already been accepted to Yale Medical School before he joined Pentatonix and became a professional musician instead of a brilliant surgeon. He speaks five languages: English, Spanish, German, French, and Mandarin Chinese. He's one of the kindest people in the world, and when he laughs the whole world seems brighter for it.
Scott usually starts their song's; however ,they all get their moment to shine. They sort of alternate who is 'lead' bu they mostly all do their thing. Kevin is the beat boxer/percussionist; however, he also sings like an angel. He sings on 'Mary did you know', which is my fav by these guys, as a matter of fact. Kirstin is the beautiful gal who can make herself look like a totally different person in every video. Matt is in the white jacket. He replaced Avi, who sings on 'Hallelujah'. Avi went solo. Mitch, Scott & Kirstin went to school together & have been singing together for years. They will blow your mind on 'Bohemian Rhapsody'.
@@bignickofficial - it's understandable - I was in grammar school when the song came out so I remember it. I'm pretty sure you weren't even around then !
Yes the guy in the white jacket Matt is the only one that isn't an original member. He replaced Avi. Kevin the beat boxer also plays the cello in some songs. I think you should react to the video "Dancing on my own". It was after Avi left and before they found Matt. The cello playing sounds like a bass singer.
L to R Matt Sallee (bass,) Kirstie Maldonado (Kirstie sounds like Thirsty, The Powerhouse) Scott Hoying, (do everything voice with a 6 octave range)Mitch Grassi (Counter Tenor) Kevin Olusola (beat boxer, cellist, producer, recording engineer, Doctor...yes really.....All around freak of talented nature) The only change in the group has been the bass singers, Matt came in for Avi Kaplan in 2017. Great reaction man!!
Hello Nick! Thank you for your super reaction. I've known this group coz of your previous reactions🔥 I missed you much, still can't believe you are back😅 Your smile, eyes and comments give positive energy and warm. Abbraccio🐬😌
BigNick , здравствуйте. Очень нравится ваше отношение к музыке, способность погружаться в неë независимо от жанра. Если это возможно сделайте пожалуйста реакцию на Green Apelsin "проклятье русалки". Интересно ваше мнение:)
Yes you’re right, the only change is Matt in the white jacket who is the bass and replaced Avi. All the others have stayed the same. Scott, the tall blonde is a baritone but has a huge range and takes the bass backing part when the bass has a solo. Both Mitch and Kirstie change their look all the time so can cause confusion!
headphones, headphones, headphones, headphones, headphones, you have to use headphones when listening to Pentatonix
I understand and shall do it next reaction 😁 if it's any constellation I have a full on studio set up with top range monitoring speakers so even without I get the full effect 😁✌️ hoped you still enjoyed the reaction regardless. 😀
@@bignickofficial Still, Avi’s bass (and Matt’s) in a set of headphones is a thing of beauty ❣️
It was my pleasure I enjoy reacting to them they are very talented and also fun. I will be reacting to more soon 😁✌️
Great vid as always
Nick, to be honest, is the first time l've heard of this band! Yes, it's wonderful!
They are very well rehearsed I like them 😁✌️
Matt (white jacket) is the bass that stepped in when Avi left. Scott (blonde) is just amazing and can hit about anything, you know Mitch, Kirsti has such a beautiful voice, and Kevin is the beatbox and also has a fantastic voice.
And plays the piano or cello😄
Great reaction! A pentatonic (stylized as Pentatonix) scale is 5 notes, and PTX has the voices and ranges to cover many octaves of that scale. It's their arrangements that sets them apart. You have a deep PTX rabbit hole to discover. I look forward to more PTX reactions
Nice
Watching you was just how I reacted too…. It’s one hell of a ride, getting sucked down the Pentatonix rabbit hole. Looking forward to the next ones
Pentatonix
They won The Sing Off in 2011. They made a guest starring appearance on America′s Got Talent as non−competitors a couple of years after that.
The founding members are:-
Scott Hoying (tall blond guy, natural baritone but has an impressive five−to−six octave range, can go all the way up to high tenor and down to bass, sings the bass lines when the usual bass singer takes the lead);
Mitch Grassi (a true contra−tenor, can hit high notes in his chest voice with ease and go WAY higher in his falsetto, also with ease);
Avriel "Avi" Kaplan (dark beard and long hair), true basso profundo, trained as an opera singer, also can go up into the tenor range; and
Kevin "KO" Olusola (beatboxer extraordinaire, also is a world−class cellist who plays cello on some of their songs, has a beautiful high tenor voice and gets occasional lead vocal solos as well, graduated pre−med from Yale and speaks several languages including Mandarin Chinese).
Scott and Kevin are major players in the arrangements, but every member contributes. good watch is "The Recording of Evergreen" where a camera was invited into the studio for the second week of recording/
Also, all members are songwriters for both Pentatonix and their own solo work.

I've been a fan of them since the sing off and seen them live 5 times and i thought I knew a lot about them but you taught me even more thank you!
PERFEKTNO!!! ❤️❤️❤️...Glasovi kao u stara dobra vremena...Harmonija tonova, kao molitva, fantazija. .. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Супер! Я обожаю многоголосие. Супер, супер, супер❤❤❤❤❤❤
No, I think Mitch's lower register is most impressive. When he and Kirstie go lower a bit it is just sublime.
@@xbubblehead Amazing harmonizing from all but I love the higher notes from Mitch & Kirstin !!!
Matt, Kevin & Scott are amazing as well !!!
WHAT A GIFT TO ALL HUMANITY !!!
Scott kerstein and Mitch went to HighSchool together
They are from near the Fort Worth Dallas area in Texas
Since you like Scott's voice, might I suggest his solo, Mars? This is the choir version of the song: ua-cam.com/video/9CAF2Pg9Cgg/v-deo.html
Oh he has a solo 😁 yes please thank you for this suggestion 😊
@@bignickofficial, it is very beautiful. Scott wrote the song too.
Thanks for sharing dear Nick..its absolutely beautiful!!❤
Awesome señor!!! There is not a weak link in this group! Thank you!!! ❤
Welcome to the PTX rabbit hole! Enjoy!
Sound of Silence was first released in 1966 by Simon & Garfunkel!
Can’t wait for your reaction to them covering Bohemian Rhapsody!!!
Hola Nick!
Ellos son en verdad fantásticos, además de la enorme calidad vocal, está el compromiso, esfuerzo y dedicación del grupo, ellos hacen que sea un gusto escucharlos.
It’s fun watching your facial expressions appreciating PTX. Subscribed!
Headphones ate a must with this group otherwise you don't hear how deep his voice gets
Spoiler Alert
They won, moved fro Texas to LA and two weeks later the company dropped them.
Haha I love that 😁 I recon this song could be sung in any melody 😁✌️
You MUST listen to their cover of "The Carol of the Bells' Not a lot of words but what they do with their voices will knock you off your seat!! Also Check out "Daft Punk" which they won a Grammy for and produced and edited in Kevin and Avi's apartment !!! WOW ! Talk about low budget but FANTASTIC rewards. It will blow your mind. Above All, listen to EVERYTHING they do because you can't go wrong with any of it and they never cease to bring something new. Have Fun !
And wear headphones! With ptx, it's the only way to fly!
Simon & Garfunkle released "The Sound of Silence" in 1964.
Okay.
• "Bohemian Rhapsody"
• "Imagine" (Be sure to watch the official video. The live version is just as good musically, as always with Pentatonix, but the official video has important video effects that can't be duplicated live.)
• "Thank You"
• "The Prayer"
• "Daft Punk Medley" (their first Grammy winner)
• "Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy" (their second Grammy winner)
• "Jolene" (their third Grammy winner)
• "O Come All Ye Faithful"
• "Light in the Hallway"
• "The Lucky Ones"
• "Run to You"
• "Todrick Hall - The Wizard of Ahhhs (ft.
You might soon realize that whatever song of PTX’s you are currently listening to will usually be your favorite. 😊
Written by the great Paul Simon !!!!!!
Only a few days till I finally see them in Manchester on May 1st - can’t wait, been postponed for 3 years.
70's, You need to do Hallelujah if you haven't already, also Mary Did You Know.
Black guy white jacket is Matt, he replaced Avi Kaplan both are bass singers and Scott with long jacket covers bass when Matt/Avi is in lead
Thankyou I shall try remember this as best I can 😁✌️
Scott (tall blonde guy), Kirstie (rhymes with thirsty), and Mitch knew each other in high school and sang as a trio.
Все твои реакции в любой музыке становятся чем то особенно притягательным 😉, могу по пол дня слушать 💗 что я и делаю каждый день 🧚☺️
I'm glad you enjoy everyone of them and that you can get lost in the music with me 😁✌️ your a fantastic supporter thank you 😊
@@bignickofficial спасибо,я тоже рада что ты есть ✌️😁, особенно твою реакцию с Индонезией я слушаю весь день , это что то чудесное правда 🤗, я тоже твой сторонник 😉😘
Привет, Ник!
Впервые слышу эту группу, очень красивое исполнение!
Спасибо за отличную реакцию!
Очень рада тебя видеть❤
Ты что-то слегка похудел,
Набирайся сил😊

I just stumbled onto your channel and really enjoyed your reaction. Coming from Florida, USA I am in love with your look and accent!! The three in the middle grew up together as friends in Texas and invited the beat boxer (Kevin) to join them. The newest member and youngest of the group is Mat who replaced Avi.
Красивые голоса. Красивая музыка. Как в девяностые годы. Приятно слушать.
Another great A cappella group is “Home Free”. Check out “Man of Constant Sorrow”.
Keep doing PTX ! Great reaction!

You might enjoy their live performance on the British show Sunday Brunch back in 2016 or 2017?
Nice reaction!!
Okay...
Scott Hoying ( the guy in the jacket you want) is a baritone with a massive vocal range ( actually they all have at least a 5 octave range...and Mitch, Kirstie and Scott all have 6 octave). Scott takes on the bass while the bass sings a verse or lead.
Mitch Grassi is a natural countertenor and a chameleon...and possibly an alien with his sweet high notes
Kirstin (Kirstie) Maldonado is a mezzo soprano and a great belter!
Recommend their original, Happy Now.
Kirstin changes appearance from song to song. The :"lead" signer (Scott) is the midrange signer which can go low. The new singer, Matt, is the base.
Nick, I've MISSED you.
Glad to see you Dawn 😁✌️ I'm back now
Thank you for your reaction.
The Sound of Silence by Simon and Garfunkel was recorded and released in the 1960s.
Pentatonix History…..composed by Alan Freeman updated by Perry Stevenson
They won The Sing Off in 2011. They made a guest starring appearance on America′s Got Talent as non−competitors a couple of years after that.
The founding members are:-
Scott Hoying (tall blond guy, natural baritone but has an impressive five−to−six octave range, can go all the way up to high tenor and down to bass, sings the bass lines when the usual bass singer takes the lead);
Mitch Grassi (a true contra−tenor, can hit high notes in his chest voice with ease and go WAY higher in his falsetto, also with ease);
But just a week later, Epic dropped them because the marketing people didn′t think an acappella group could sell records.
But when their cover of a medley of songs by Daft Punk not only went super−viral, but also won them their first Grammy, they were promoted all the way up to RCA Records, Sony′s top label.
Scott and Kevin are major players in the arrangements, but every member contributes. good watch is "The Recording of Evergreen" where a camera was invited into the studio for the second week of recording/
Also, all members are songwriters for both Pentatonix and their own solo work.
Ed Boyer who mixes everything of theirs (even the HWB Livestream) is the one who pulled Ben Bram into the sing off in the first place.
The 3 Grammys they’ve won include….(1)Daft Punk for Best Arrangement, Instrumental or A Cappella……(2)Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairies for Best Arrangement, Instrumental or A Cappella….(3) Jolene w/Dolly Parton for Best Country Duo/Group Performance.
They were nominated for a 4th Grammy for their album “Evergreen” for Best Traditional Vocal Album. They were also nominated for a 5th Grammy award for their album “Holidays Around The World” for Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album.
They have a star on the Hollywood walk of fame installed in February 2023. They are the only acapella group with a star!

Kirstie became a new mum which caused a pause in touring after their Evergreen Christmas tour 2021. Mid March 2023 Kirstie has announced that she is engaged to Ben Hausdorff, their videographer. No dates YET!
It is an often debated subject among the Pentaholics as to just how soon we introduce the "Beginners Guide" as we don't want to overdo the introduction. This is a compilation of snips of a whole load of songs which PTX have released. It highlights each member with some of their solos and then a brief history in video.
В поддержку канала! 🤗😘
You got it right on who is who in the group. Great reaction, to be sure.
Привет Ники! Если почитать комментарии, скольких людей ты радуешь своим появлением! Это же просто великолепно!!!
Listening to Pentatonix absolutely requires HEADPHONES. They bring an expanded audio experience for your ears, and mind
You should check out their Sing Off performances (3rd Season) if you want to know more and see how they got their start! There's 12 performances + the Finale where they announced the winner (spoiler, they won). Be sure to find the ones with the pre-post interviews and judges commentary they give a lot of history on the band's start!
Simon and Garfunkel recorded this song in 1965. Headphones.
1. They don't have one lead singer. Pentatonix is a true ensemble group; they select the lead based on the person who is best for the song.
2. I don't know where they get their clothing; I suspect that much of it is tailored specifically for them.
3. The singers:
• First verse: Scott Hoying, lyric baritone.
So many songs, but a must to react to is John Lennon's Imagine! Powerful and beautiful!
The song was released by Simon and Garfunkel in 1964
1964 wow I was well off 🤦♂️😅
Atleast I got the artist correct 😅 thanks for letting us know 😁✌️
@@bignickofficial - it's understandable - I was in grammar school when the song came out so I remember it.
Голосистые какие!) Звучанием напомнили АББА
Matt replaced Avi. Female is Kirsten. Center is Scott. Mitch and Kevin.😊
Великолепно💥Ты взрослеешь,BigNick👊🌏
L to R Matt Sallee (bass,) Kirstie Maldonado (Kirstie sounds like Thirsty, The Powerhouse) Scott Hoying, (do everything voice with a 6 octave range)Mitch Grassi (Counter Tenor) Kevin Olusola (beat boxer, cellist, producer, recording engineer, Doctor...yes really.....All around freak of talented nature) The only change in the group has been the bass singers, Matt came in for Avi Kaplan in 2017. Great reaction man!!
Очень красиво!
You’ve confused a bit. Scott (first singer is baritone but fails in on bass, Mitch is countertenor, Matt is the bass who replaced Avi.
Check out the "Beginner's Guide to Pentatonix" video. There are some spoilers, but I think it will help you know their story, and more about each one.
Song is older than you think late 60's early 70's
Oh yes twice my age 🤣🤣 😁✌️
Want harmony? Try Imagine. Or the song from Lion King. Pentatonix slays anything they do!
I live the lion King soundtrack 😁 tha ks for the suggestions ✌️
@@bignickofficial But react to the OFFICIAL videos to see the visuals they have with these two songs. You’ll thank me later! Lol
