when I listen to Leonard Cohen's performance of this song, the impression I get is of grief that has almost healed. Whereas this one, the grief seems fresh, and that hit me right in my soul. These scars take time to heal.
This is one of those songs that is different for every rendition. some are full of grief and regret, some are full of the promise of a new day, some are full of the freshest pain, or some combination of all.
When I sang this at my wife’s funeral I took a page from Leonard Cohen. He kept adding verses to the song and encouraged singers to change or add their own verses to the vocals. If you sang all the un official and officially recognized verses you would have a song almost 20 minutes long! So I added my own last verse… A day will come when I stand before he lord of hosts and he will ask me what moved you most? I will say your hallelujah.
This cover genuinely gave me chills. My grandfather loved this song and recently passed away but I know he would have loved this. I'm performing it at his funeral, and hearing you has calmed a lot of my anxieties around the entire situation. Thank you for posting this cover Colm, you are truly a blessing to this platform.
@-Wyrmwoods- My condolences on the loss of your grandfather. I absolutely love this song and like you, this version gave me chills. It may be the best version I've heard and I've heard nearly all of them. I'm glad you'll be performing it at his funeral. Would like very much to hear your version.
My father passed away Sunday. I got to spend time with him the day before. I just made it back home finally, sat down and saw this song was out. I listened to this and finally cried. This was beautiful. Thank you.
I found out about this song when I watched the first Shrek cartoon. You plunged me into my childhood. I used to love listening to this song. Thank you so much for this magical song. I'm going to review the cartoon.
once again with gorgeous control + breath work (plus that insane high note towards the end??). this one felt so raw & vulnerable-exactly how i feel the song should be sung. the "cold and broken"ness of the hallelujah was palpable through the screen. really beautiful work, colm
This is what I sang alone at my wife’s funeral in my poor and broken baritone voice. I kept my promise dear. It’s been 2 years now and still makes me hurt… makes me wish that I never gave up social drinking, a large scotch neat would help about now.
Sir I can't' begin to thank you enough for you singing this. This is one of my mother's favorite songs and I sent her this video. I waited to hear reply before I wrote this. She called me crying and through her tears she told me how beautiful it was and that she loved it, she also wanted me to tell you thank you for recording this song. I can tell you with all honesty that you are one of my favorite singers and this cover is one of the best I have ever heard. Thank you so very much from the bottom of my heart❤. God Bless from Missouri U.S.A
This is a beautiful cover. Hallelujah is a song that needs to be truly genuine, or it comes off as fake, and this cover just works. Also, the pure range, especially in the last chorus, was amazing
Chills from the first words, brother bear. Absolutely a beautiful cover of a masterpiece song, this was anything but a cold and broken Hallelujah. Cheers mate, hope you and yours are having a most excellent New Year
This used to be the one song to make me just start weeping no matter where I was. It has a lot of sentimentality and bitter emotions for me. I thought I worked past that from listening to it over and over. It all came flooding back.
I just can't. It's so heartbreaking. This may be my most favorite rendition of the one of my most favorite songs. Literally brought tears to my eyes. I love it, Colm. You're brilliant.
I’ve loved your voice since discovering your performances. This particular rendition of one of my favorite songs is the most incredible, amazing display of your range, talent, and power. Thank you for this heartfelt, expressive moment of sheer beauty.
This song is the last one my grandpa sang before he passed away a week before Christmas 2019. It forever will have a special place in my heart, and to this day almost 5 years later I still find myself tearing up and breaking down every time I hear this song. I miss you, Grandpa... fly high.
I have my girly girl, my Smokey cat right beside me right now; She's loved a long life, but tomorrow, Jan 8, 2024, she has to pass on and go home. We loved listening to music together, thank you for this
This was honestly so beautiful. I listen to the version you did with Caleb, Thomas, Jonathan and Dan a few years ago. It’s lovely to hear you do the whole song. Thank you for this ☺️🩵
why is this song so nostalgic? it makes me feel sad, happy, hopeful, glad of all the wholesome events in my life, and makes me think of my childhood friends.... 🥲
Have you been saving this up until you weren't absolutely terrified to post it? It's so easy to get wrong. But this is you, and that is what it needs to be. Well done.
Im sorry for your loss, may her soul find peace wherever she goes, for even if I don't know if there is heaven, hell, or anything after death but I know it must be peaceful
Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah" is a masterpiece born from struggle and continuous revision. He started writing it in 1984, laboriously filling notebooks with verses exploring themes of love, faith, and doubt. The song initially met with indifference when included on his album Various Positions, which Columbia Records famously rejected. A cover by John Cale in 1991, followed by a stripped-down version by Jeff Buckley in 1994, slowly brought the song into the spotlight. Today, countless interpretations exist, cementing it as a modern classic - a testament to Cohen's profound songwriting and the song's enduring ability to resonate deeply with listeners. It's an insanely beautiful cover, though, all you ever get is a magic cover, dear Colm! Thank you for the beautiful, high notes, thank you for your beautiful voice and for this wonderful cover. Under this wonderful cover, you can fall asleep and imagine the most beautiful and tender plots, thank you, Colm 🙏
Lyrics: Well I've heard there was a secret chord That David played and it pleased the Lord But you don't really care for music, do you? Oh my, absolutely love your voice!!! Beautiful and haunting song, one of my favorites, and your cover is gorgeous!!! Thank you Colm, from the bottom of my heart. 😍💚💚
This is no song for just the enjoyment of it, it heals the heart, brings back loved ones, and gives us back a moment we miss dearly. Be strong those who need it most you’ll make it
this song literally made me cry. Your voice is genuinely amazing, beautiful, gorgeous, and gentle. I’m sensitive for beautiful things, and so I was sensitive to this song, to your voice. Thank you for bringing me tears of beauty.❤
This song was a huge part of my childhood, I remember watching my parents dance in the kitchen to Leonard Cohen, it's some of my happiest memories. You did a wonderful cover. Absolutely bravo Colm :)
CHILLS 😎 such beauty!!! I just can't get enough of colms voice. The flow of his voice with his music choice is like ship to a stranded person. I hope to hear many more additive songs for years to come.
Vous ne chantez pas seulement avec votre (merveilleuse incroyable hypnotique) voix, mais aussi avec votre coeur, avec vos tripes, avec votre âme, et sûrement aussi des trucs qu'on n'a pas encore découvert dans le corps humain !
when I listen to Leonard Cohen's performance of this song, the impression I get is of grief that has almost healed. Whereas this one, the grief seems fresh, and that hit me right in my soul. These scars take time to heal.
That's because Cohens version is about his joy of getting with a women. It's funny how this song gets 'repurposed ' to mean other things to people
This is one of those songs that is different for every rendition. some are full of grief and regret, some are full of the promise of a new day, some are full of the freshest pain, or some combination of all.
indeed they do take time to heal. but they they do heal.

Hope you are doing ok
I wish you all the strength and courage in this world friend. My grace and fortune guide your path.
I'm sorry for your loss, may his soul find peace and may he remember those moments of his life with you and of joy wherever he may go
My father passed away Sunday. I got to spend time with him the day before. I just made it back home finally, sat down and saw this song was out. I listened to this and finally cried. This was beautiful. Thank you.
Ashes to ashes dust to dust may he rest in peace and I hoe you prosper
I'm sorry for your loss, may his soul find peace wherever it may go
Put this on in the background while peeling potatoes, and 4:37 made me physically drop what I was doing and say "holy shit". Well done, as always.
I found out about this song when I watched the first Shrek cartoon. You plunged me into my childhood. I used to love listening to this song. Thank you so much for this magical song. I'm going to review the cartoon.

Few artists are able to replicate the raw emotion in the song.
And you nailed it!
Gorgeous and raw. Just like this song ought to be.
I think it'd be kinda of interesting to see an Irish/Celtic-style arrangement of this.
There is a Catalan cover❤
by Gerard Quintana, leader of a well known old pop rock band Sopa de Cabra, from Girona (not Barcelona😅)
what a set of pipes on this handsome lad. Not just super low all the time, but chillingly high and resonant as well! Bravo!
This is a beautiful cover. Hallelujah is a song that needs to be truly genuine, or it comes off as fake, and this cover just works.
Also, the pure range, especially in the last chorus, was amazing
hard to pay hommage to cohen, buckley and john cale all in one fell swoop. breathtaking.
Christ be glorified. Hallelujah.
Chills from the first words, brother bear. Absolutely a beautiful cover of a masterpiece song, this was anything but a cold and broken Hallelujah.
Cheers mate, hope you and yours are having a most excellent New Year
I have had an absolutely awful start into 2024, but you posting a video this week has made me happy again! Thank you for all you do Colm.
I am sure 2024 will be your year and whatever troubles you may have youll overcome
I’m sure things will pick up for ya soon, friend. Wishing you all the best.
Wishing you the best from here on out. Keep listening to this gorgeous song to hold you up. Sending blessings 🍀💚
This feels like Leonard Cohen and Jeff Buckley doing a duet. I would love to hear the two tones come together on a final chorus.
This used to be the one song to make me just start weeping no matter where I was. It has a lot of sentimentality and bitter emotions for me. I thought I worked past that from listening to it over and over.
It all came flooding back.
Beautifully done! Great work as always, Colm ❤
OMG Colm, I'm in love with your cover of one of my favorite songs of all time. Leonard Cohen would be thrilled hearing this.
Chills and tears are running silently running down my face. Sheer raw beauty and perfection! Your talent is unlimited. 🍀💚
I just can't. It's so heartbreaking. This may be my most favorite rendition of the one of my most favorite songs. Literally brought tears to my eyes. I love it, Colm. You're brilliant.

Colm, that was absolutely gorgeous from beginning to end. Those notes were insane. Thank you!

Lyrics: Well I've heard there was a secret chord
That David played and it pleased the Lord
But you don't really care for music, do you?
Well it goes like this
The fourth, the fifth, the minor fall and the major lift
The baffled king composing Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Well your faith was strong but you needed proof
You saw her bathing on the roof
Her beauty and the moonlight overthrew ya
She tied you to her kitchen chair
And she broke your throne and she cut your hair
And from your lips she drew the Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
But baby I've been here before
I've seen this room and I've walked this floor
You know, I used to live alone before I knew ya
And I've seen your flag on the marble arch
And love is not a victory march
It's a cold and it's a broken Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Well there was a time when you let me know
What's really going on below
But now you never show that to me do ya
But remember when I moved in you
And the holy dove was moving too
And every breath we drew was Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Maybe there's a God above
But all I've ever learned from love
Was how to shoot somebody who outdrew ya
And it's not a cry that you hear at night
It's not somebody who's seen the light
It's a cold and it's a broken Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
You convey so much emotion. Well done.
