hope so much you made a version from this very special song. thank you so much 😊
Спасибо, обязательно! 😉
This song is really stepping up the game not just because of immensely talented voice but also from very thoughtful composing. And of course sound engineering that actually separate each instrument. The comment will get too long if every bits that I'm appreciating is to be mentioned. Appreciated!
A truly impressive cover of perhaps the greatest song ever written. Bravi!
I'd love to hear this young woman do some singing with PMJ. ua-cam.com/video/q8g6qs9PJuI/v-deo.html
If Leonard Cohen was alive to hear this he would be proud.
HE HEARD HER SING THIS HAVE NO DO0OUBT!
How freaking liberating has to be to be able to sing your lungs out
I do it all the time! ... much to the chagrin of my children. I am the complete opposite of this singer.
@@-Subtle- You go and sing your heart out, your children will love you for it sooner than you think.
I only ever do it in my kitchen but it really is liberating :)
@@aoifenichinneide6893 Do it in the shower too. Sounds ruddy awesome for those of us who can't sing. 🙂
As liberating as crying all way through her vocals. She has one hell of a voice
This video is incredible but...
I saw this performed live in Ipswich, UK. It was breathtaking. I was awestruck for the duration - the beauty of this ladies voice was overwhelming. She recieved a standing oveation but truly that didn't do it justice.
The whole night was truly incredible ans I would urge anyone that enjoys these videos to see PMJ live. Unforgettable.
🙏
Just when you think a song has been done to death. This is probably the best arrangement of this song I’ve ever heard. What an amazing voice too, so clear and powerful.
That one is also beautiful: ua-cam.com/video/AGRfJ6-qkr4/v-deo.html
Totally agree with you there. This song is one of my all time faves, no matter whoe sang it. This version is so very special and beautiful. Thank you ❤️
Yes, this is incredibly beautiful. But for my money, nobody has ever done this song better than K.D. Lang. If you haven’t heard her version, you haven’t heard the best, IMO.
You had it right the first time. This song has been done to death. I can't even bear to hear it anymore. Don't mean to take anything away from the musicians, but this song is low hanging fruit.
@@ToeTag1968 I don't think I could call it low hanging fruit, personally. Yeah, it's been done a lot, and it's pretty much always going to sound good, so I do get your point. But the bar is incredibly high. If you don't bring something completely new to it _and_ do it perfectly, people aren't going to be satisfied, because they've heard better. A lot of my favorite song covers are from PMJ, largely because that's exactly what they do: they make songs new and perform them at a staggeringly high level.
PMJ still didn't quite match up to my personal favorite cover of this song, which really says something. It was still absolutely worth doing, as so many commenters are saying it's the first version that's really resonated with them.
Goosebumps!!! The range, the control!! How effortless she moved from one register to the next! Incredible!
hearing her voice during the hallelujahs was just amazing!
I can't say (write) more.
But i want to hear this vice in a duette with Morgan James, Haley Reinhart, Tess Mohr or someone else of PostmodernJukebox. Or the Clown of Puddles Pity Party with his amazing voice.
Vocal range? Check Effie's singing in PMJ cover on "I was made for lovin you". Listen it through.
@@anomymouse5043 just watched it, very good, what a voice!
The phrase “Iron fist in a velvet glove”springs to mind.
If Cohen was still alive to hear this cover I think he’d be brought to tears with how beautiful this is
Effie performed this live in Sydney on Friday night as part of PMJ's 'Life in the Past Lane'. She absolutely killed it. Standing ovation with cheering and hollering from the entire venue.
I had to add my awe and admiration, saw PMJ live tonight and the entire room was simply blown away by this amazing voice and emotion. Effie, you are a star without a doubt and you create new fans every time you sing.
I was at last night's show too. Such a blast!
just watched their show tonight, this number was the first standing ovation of the show- and her finale of Creep was the second. She is phenomenally talented, i was entranced every time she took the stage.
@@tylerdarlington4269I was also at the show from last night, which brought me here. Simply incredible performances.
Co-sign. Saw her perform this last night and had to come here and listen to her sing it again.
Saw them in Laconia, NH last night. This one and her rendition of "Creep" nearly brought the building down. What a voice! What a great talent to add to the PMJ family!
This feels exactly how this song should?
This arrangement, the band behind her, the violin that comes in, her vocals.
It just fits so beautifully.
Respect to Leonard Cohen, the last great Renaissance Man. What a biography the man had. Wow.
Tears of celestial inspiration. I could hear touches of Jeff Beck's sensibilities, and if Leonard Cohen wasn't sitting on a cloud with his jaw dropped in awe I'd be sad for him.
Everyone should watch the Leonard Cohen documentary about this song.......it's amazing.....gives you a greater understanding of how he composed this......
Effie has perfected the sound of the mourning dove and its beautiful.
What a voice! The arrangement is also beautiful. Just delicious.
OMG bran sabe de esta joya de canal .... @Bran Flores tqm
Today I switched on this song to my mom, 71 years old woman from Ukraine, she doesn't understand English, but she was crying astonished with the beauty of this musical composition and video, she told ne it was an incredible experience. Thanks a million for what you're doing.💙💛
did you tell her that the song is actually about sex, fucking and losing one's faith in God ?
@@danielracovitan9779 because you think 70+ people didn't live and love, edgelord?
@@danielracovitan9779 who cares what the meaning is the song itself it’s beautiful
@@danielracovitan9779 So it's about being human; is that what you're trying to say? (Albeit crassly.)
I believe music transpires language.
This is a late comment to this video and I have two thoughts. First, when I saw the video appear on UA-cam, I initially thought that we didn't need another interpretation of this song. I was totally wrong. Bravo, Scott et al. Brilliant work.
Second, like a commenter above, I saw PMJ on tour a couple of weeks ago-- in Stockholm. Effie Passero delivered one of the most extraordinary live performances that I have ever seen. She absolutely stunned the audience. We all wept. If you have a chance to see her perform, do not miss it. Her rendition of Creep to close the show was also spectacular. With both of these tunes, she easily matches the talent of those who have performed it before, but she adds an emotion and a personal connection to the music that is absolutely staggering. I am so fortunate to have been in that audience. Thank you.
so happy you got to see this live...Effie's voice is simply not of this world!
I agree - just saw her tonight sing this - I was in tears and absolutely gobsmacked with her voice and performance. AMAZING!!!!
Hard agree. Effie’s performance in Brisbane had a passion and viscerality I have never heard before.
I had the thrill of hearing her in NC a few months back and it STILL resonates with me. I'm a fellow singer and man, was I humbled and inspired. Breath taking and once in a lifetime kind of sensational.
Saw this live at the Gold Coast last week... stunning. You could've heard a pin drop until the very end when we burst into applause. I was on my feet. I cried. It was utter magic.
"Done to death"? Really? I can't get enough of this song. The comments prompted me to revisit the K. D. Lang & Jeff Buckley versions. If Leonard Cohen had never done anything else in his long career (and it was so, so good), this alone would have been enough to cement his legacy. Thank you, Leonard, thank you.
Wow! Consistently having my socks knocked off.
So thrilled that Effie was part of the PMJ TOUR -2023 singing this moving song live at Nottingham Royal Concert Halll - 16/04/23.
I heard this live last night in Bournemouth. I am not embarrassed to admit that I started crying. The emotion, passion and power that came across blew me away by far the best live vocal I have heard….ever! Thankyou, this and the other songs you sang so superbly last night was nothing less than phenominal.
Same we just saw her in Mannheim, it was.... beyond amazing, words can not describe her Voice and the Presence you feel... 😵😭
3:27 takes me to heaven.
Chills, goosebumps and awe.
Thanks for the button
I replayed it a thousand times
@@PabloEmanuel96 The falsettos shortly after are brilliant!
The evangelicals who love this song always skip this verse lol
PM J Team: "Sir, how beautiful do You want this song?"
Leonard Cohen: "Yes."
Just saw this performed live in Edinburgh last night. I sat with tears streaming down my face Effie you have the voice of an angel thank you for sharing your gift and talent with us all. Would kill to experience that moment for the first time again ❤
I just saw her in Hamilton NZ tonight...could not stop the tears. Just WOW.
I hope this channel never dies.
I hope you continue to find great talents to make those wonderful covers.
One of a kind and even if 5.75M subs is a lot, it deserves so much more!
When you think a song has been covered to death .... and then comes this!!! Absolutely amazing - New Favourite! Hallelujah! (no pun intended!!)
Thank you, Leonard Cohen!
Saw this lady sing this last night at the Postmodern Jukebox concert in Edinburgh. By far the best vocal performance I have ever witnessed live. Out of this world!
Same for me from Hamilton NZ. Rapturous!
Amazing song ✔️
Amazing vocal ✔️
Amazing arrangement ✔️
Top notch musicians breathing fire into a supposedly dead song ✔️
"I will stand before the lord of song, with nothing on my lips but hallelujah "
hallelujah was supposedly dead?
@@DaveDexterMusic Yeah. Nobody really wanted to do it.Passe. over.
I love how the postmodern logo came on just as the intro to the song ended. To remind you that yes, this is just the beginning, you're in for a real ride here.
I heard this played in Hamilton, NZ. Staggeringly, hauntingly beautiful. Brought tears to my eyes, and there was a standing ovation - mid concert. Bravo.
We’re glad you were there with us for such a special night ❤️
Ok, I’m probably the only person in the world to admit that I can’t stand this song - BUT - because I love just about everything you guys do I tentatively hit play. Glad I did - beautiful arrangement and sang so well on every level - passion, power, sensitivity.
Clearing my schedule for the next several weeks because after this NOTHING else exists in life for me. This is as dreamy as it gets. Effie has the most beautiful voice I’ve even known, and now THIS version of THIS song?! It’s like this song has been waiting all of it’s life for her to do this to it.❤️❤️❤️
Ngl my favourite pmj singer is and always will be Hayley and her Cover of Creep and 7 nation army are the only versions I can listen too but by god Effie has taken that 2nd spot without equal!
'Hallelujah'... as it can be, with sensitivity and grace. A Beautiful Hallelujah.
When I first heard this song, I was floored by the lyric "but you don't really care for music, do you?'" What?! There are people who
"don't really care for music"? What are they, space aliens? If a woman tells you she doesn't "really care for music", RUN! RUN! She'll break your throne. She'll cut your hair. RUN!
I saw this live last night, it was by far the best live performance I've heard in my life.
a true #PMJtour highlight moment, every time
This legendary song, by your incredible and talented group, with this amazing voice, gave me chills. What an amazing way to present this song and make it sound even better than ever before. Amazing.
I have come back and listened to this rendition over and over. So good.
i went to your show in Melbourne last night (2nd SEP 2023) and this song, sung by Effie Passero brought me to tears. thank you, thank you, thank you for coming to Melbourne. i will be there again when next you visit our city.
I'm not ashamed to say I openly wept. Thank you.
Just heard Effie live in Wellington tonight. I got goosebumps despite no connection to the religion itself. It was incredible no words can describe.
I don't really think this song has much to do with religion.
We saw Effie sing this song last night at Anita's theatre, Thirroul as part of Pmj's Australian tour and she nailed it.
She's unbelievable. Pure vocal and musical genius.
Incredible voice. Nice arrangement. I’d like to see her on Broadway.
Absolutely! I truly believe her talent could take her anywhere. There’s nobody quite like her.
She almost was
She's touring with PMJ, that's pretty much broadway!
So, it's a Hallelujah cover? This will be one of the greatest covers of this whole channel!
Absolutely stunning!!! This song has been done so often by so many people, it’s difficult to create a version that is both unique, and still as powerful as the original. What an incredible instrument her voice is - truly outstanding 🤯 Excuse me while I go to look up all the Effie Passero I can find ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤
Just when I thought this was the best version, then I heard Effie and PMJ on their UK live tour last Thursday... wow even better live. Earth shattering sound. 👏
Same here - first heard Effie's performance at the PMJ show at the Royal Festival Hall - a whole nother level above this video.
Saw her in Connecticut full body chills. Idiots behind us left because the song was to “religious” for them. Mind you they were in the vip section which was like $200 a ticket.
Best rendition I have ever heard of Hallelujah! Beautifully performed by everyone. Effie's range - WOW!
Scott Bradley improving on perfection again.
Effie Passero auditioned on the Voice or one of those shows and has such a fantastic and powerful voice. Its one of those voices that can break thru the hardest of hearts
Awakening deepness.... No more shadows... Only glorious, glorious light....
Saw the show last night and Effie's version of Hallelujah blew me away! It was like hearing it for the first time. Just breathtaking.
3:51-4:22 I’m so glad this verse was kept in; I haven’t really understood why so many covers usually omit this part, imo it’s so strong
It seems like every version leaves something out. This was so INCREDIBLY beautiful, and I don’t know if I have ever heard that verse.
I closed my eyes and just let it wash over me. I’m spent!
I think it’s probably because a lot of covers try to make it a religious praise song, and that verse is a little harder to interpret as being about anything other than sex 🤔
@@allisonbergh4429 THis. I keep seeing people describe it as a Christian praise song, and JUST NO. They also make up Jesusy verses. I keep waiting for people to get mad at the original Cohen version for leaving out the Jesusy verses of their "praise song."
@@Savithny I’ve seen it performed (minus the explicit verses - but there are plenty to choose from, the guy wrote a LOT) by a CHILDREN’S CHOIR. 🤦🏼♀️
Maybe because the popular Jeff Buckley's cover emitted this verse, and later covers often go by that version.
Leonard is listening, feeling and smiling upon you tonight. Simply wonderful.
THAT voice, right there. What an instrument. Perfect.
Wow! I think she has the best voice of anyone I've ever heard on PostmodernJukebox!
The most beautiful version that I have ever heard.
Beautiful. Coming up on 30 years when I saw Leonard Cohen - I’d never heard of him - In Minneapolis. I was completely memorized and have been ever since.
That... That actually made me cry... That's NEVER happened with this song. NEVER.
Her voice is MAGIC!
It's the most unbelievable version this song!
I’ve heard this song sung so many times, but this is genuinely the most beautiful vocal performance of it I’ve heard. Thanks for tuning me in to such a lovely talent.
Yes,def one of the best
There is something special here...
I had the privilege of seeing Effie during what I believe was one of her first road performances with PMJ. She was wonderful then and she is radiant here! Great job by all!
Oh, Effie, what a glorious talent you have!
I have listened to every version of this song I have ever seen since hearing the Jeff Buckley version shortly after his death. Literally dozens of covers. I have finally found a version done better. I sit here with tears running down my face after waiting for my hands to stop shaking enough to type. It has been many years since any song has caused a reaction anywhere near this strong. Thank you.
what a voice.
I experienced the same thing. I had been listening to this in the background out of respect to PMJ more than a genuine interest in hearing another cover of the song, but around three minutes in I noticed the waterworks that were building up. It's incredibly well done.
Same
My first thought too. Saw them last night, live it is overpowering. ❤her voice… all the feels.
This is really good. Try Bon Jovi’s version if you haven’t.
We had the honour of experiencing this in Canberra this week. Virtuoso doesn't even come close.
I've always considered Cohen's own original as the definitive version, but having just heard this performance, it's battling it out in my head (with one or two others, particulary Skeye's) for number 2.
I love Pentatonix version so, so much, as well.
Thought this song had been done to death but this is really nice.
my thoughts exactly.... i would love to pmj do a parody ua-cam.com/video/gbFxlscbffk/v-deo.html
Agreed. I was getting so sick of this song but this woman has a beautiful voice and can sing.
Worthy of Cohen's legacy, 100%
I was worried, but she rocked it!
I was lucky to see her LIVE in Toronto this weekend (dec 16th) I can NOT WAIT for you guys to come back. My husband surprised me with this and he killed it. Big big fans, both of us. Effie is just so amazing. I had chills the WHOLE TIME she was singing.
What a special night that was! We can’t wait to return to Toronto and see you again 🥂
i'm obsessed with this version aaaaaaaa
1:14, the moment the first violinist looked into my soul and made me stay and listen till the end. Thank you!
I just gave a UA-cam video a standing ovation and I’m not ashamed to admit it. Phenomenal. 👏👏👏
You *need* to hear this live! Absolutely insane!
Oh. My. God. I drop a tear at the end.
Did you ever hear of the word "perfection"!? Well you just have ❤️

Oh wow a hallelujah cover! Awesome!
I did a snarky reply for which I am sorry---I thought it WAS amazing.
This is easily the best version of this song I've ever heard. You've managed to keep it sacred while uplifting it far beyond the original. Your arrangements are consistently sublime. This one was soul-shaking.
And that voice. Rarely does one hear such a seamless range with no discernable passaggio. My goodness this was special, even by your lofty standards.
Effie Passero is just amazing. I can't get over how perfect she is.
Her whistle notes literally gave me goosebumps!!
GOD DAYUM!!!! Now that is one hell of a voice
I had the privilege of seeing Effie and PMJB perform this in Modesto, CA this year. It was truly one of the most amazing performances I've ever witnessed.
She made me cry.
Saw them live in Hamilton New Zealand on Saturday night. Even better live….spiritually uplifting …we were in heaven with their power💚 Thank you💜
I get to question my existence after watching this. 🤯🤯👻
2:45 slaps SO HARD. it feels weirdly nostalgic, I can't place my finger on what or where I've heard a similar tune. I LOVE it though
THIS IS TRASCENDENTAL, SERIOUSLY.
Was privileged to hear this live last week in Perth amazing concert. Will always remember how in awe the crowd was of her magical voice❤
just superb, supreme & amazing
Leonard Cohen would smile and sing it with you guy's I'm sure 😁Beautiful 🎶🎶
PMJ performed this number at their show in Pittsburgh last night. It brought me to tears. Thank you, Effie! You are incredible.
Saw her live in London tonight... this literally brought me to tears!
Me too, from NZ!
I’d imagine this would be the voice you’d hear as you start your ascend to heaven. Absolutely gorgeous.
ok... this is the best version of this song i've heard
Wow. Wow. Wow this is beautiful
That's super angelic!!! One of the most vocally beautiful things I have heard in my life!!! I don't know why but I feel like I really needed this! It gives me hope for doing well in my diploma!!! Tough times...
This is amazing.
Absolutely beautiful, y'all! Literally got chills during the crescendo at the end of each verse.
Had goosebumps the whole song. She is just spectacular
