Thank Sarah for letting us ride along. Hope she will change her mind on filming in the future. I think she would be a great hit on her own channel someday. She is very versatile on repairing & operating equipment. And I must say, very funny as well. Loved that video where she was mocking dad.

I admire your confidence and optimism. Living in UK, I would be nervous of upgrading the planter at this time. It's a huge job, the kit of parts would have shortages, the missing parts would be on back order and unavailable, the promised technical support to assist and configure the machine would become delayed and the technical literature would be a joke. Call me glass-half-empty but that's just the way it is here. I've been called a pessimist a few times, I see an optimist as a pessimist without the facts. I would have started this job as soon as I finished with it last season to give me acres of contingency. I suspect you have a contingency agreement with Deere or your dealer to loan you a planter if things go wrong. I hope everything goes well and can't wait to see the planter in the field. Thanks as ever Andy for the humour, life perspective and education.

Sarah doesnt need auto steer. Her lines are straight as a ruler. Depending on how many acres you plant i dont see the cost savings at all. The initial pricing her in Oz is about 6-7 grand then theres ongoing cost for the use of the satelites. You can buy a lot of fertilizer for that price and what does it matter if you have an overlap or underlap every once in a while.? Especially if your not doing the absolute zero zilch no tilling where you cant see where you have been. I think a lot of it is to keep up with the Joneses next door. Lol. You do a top job Sarah. Love ya vids.

Hey there Andy and Crew, I hope this finds you all well and good!
Routing the new hoses as well as the new wiring harness can be somewhat of a challenge, and will need to be watched to make sure none are smashed when either folding or unfolding, as I've seen a few hyd hoses smashed.
Use of tracks on Tractors, Combines, and grain carts in muddy Fall conditions can significantly reduce the amount of hardpan in the Spring.
I have 2 words of wisdom for you Andy when talking about aftermarket auto-steer kits, "Buyer Beware"
I hope y'all have a good one, and get started on your 2022 planting season very soon, after all it is May!
"Nothing Runs Like A Deere" 🦌👍🇺🇸

Interesting video. How do you lay out your "lands" when you use the chisel plow?
The rest of this comment is a little of my history on the farm. It is not expected that you would have time to read it. I will not be disappointed if you do not.
The average size field I worked on as a young lad was 15 to 20 acres. Dad said divide the field into three sections and run a back furrow on each so you wound up with two dead furrows. Then he disked and finally used a field drag with either a spike tooth drag or a cultipacker behind it.
Seems like we double cornered with the drag. I can't recall pulling the disk. Dad sold the livestock and the equipment when I was almost 13, put the land in the soil bank for Grandma and went back to work as a tool and die man. That's when I got my chance to work the land up to keep the weeds and brush down. First year or two he did the plowing and I got to do the dragging. The last two summers before my 11th and 12th grades I did everything in my spare time and felt pretty good about it. I went to work as a hired hand for an area farmer and did the land work for Dad on Sundays mostly. I worked for the farmer all the way through Community College which took three years since I was working on the farm and in a gas station on Friday and Sat nights. Dad got killed in a car accident on May 1st of my senior year (1960) with only his small shop term life insurance. I had a tuition and books scholarship and was accepted into the Michigan marchng band for my freshman year. I had a 11 year old sister and a 1 year old sister when Dad died (car accident killed instantly.) All that went out the window and U of M transfered my scholarship to the Community College. Dad had an arrangement with an area farmer for me to fatten up steers for an area farmer and I would get enough of the profits to pay the rest of my expenses. I would have to do all the farm work during the summer and Dad would handle things in the fall. I would take a as many courses at one of the colleges in the spring so I could work the farm in the spring and live at home. The way I had it planned I would require 6 or 7 years before I got my undergraduate degree.
Would it have worked? Don't know.
I haven't farmed since the summer of 1963 so my memories can be a bit vague about some stuff. We had a 48 B on Dad's farm. In 1963 I graduated from the Community College and went on and finished my undergraduate degree in math with music and secondary education as minors at a smaller more affordable college. I worked as a campus police officer during the final years of my undergraduate degree, taught in high school for a few years, spent a couple of years as ang finly went to work in the operations department of a nuclear power plant where I worked for 35+ years and 5 years as a contractor. I retired in 2013 at the age of 71. Since then the only farming I do is my garden and UA-cam fantasies.
Enjoy your videos. I will not write any more long replies. You can't have enough time to read them all.
Thanks for a great site, Andy.

GPS would definitely help with working ground like that because if you can't turn sharp enough and vs guessing or spending more time to make a big turn, you can skip some and know where the line is you want to take. And saves time and money in the long run
