As an aging university student, actually semi retired software engineer, I'm always need larger size devices... Something close to a piece of paper. Because the whole point of goint paperless is to replace paper. As mention, I'm and academic, and need to write notes, or load textbooks, research pdfs, and occasionally doodle in the margins. You might expect an attorney to desire e-paper device the size of a legal pad.... Thats why all these should go BIG by default, to replace paper. That said, I wish for color on the larger sizes, with whater is most practical.... either gallery or kaleido. This transitional phase of the e-ink market is very perplexing. Its so very pleasing to see the market growing, and awareness of the ergonomic benefits of e-ink going mainstream. I'm tempted to stay on the side lines another year to see more color devices. I'd love to see an android device with gallery 3, to compete with remarkable paper pro.
Hello Might be a while before we see a Gallery Boox device. Too many drawbacks to how they run their machines. But we will most certainly see a 13.3 " color Boox device in the near future. They have to update their Tab X device sometime soon and eInk Corp. already makes a 13.3" Color Kaleido 3 display. Like I just told another commenter, just a matter of time. You're absolutely right about going bigger. That's the point, Paper-like in every way, but better lol. Textbooks are the most practical use for these and I'm shocked that hasn't become more prevalent in academia. Maybe with gentlemen like yourself taking a closer look, that could change. Thanks for stopping by and for the comment✌🏾
I agree! Larger is what I'm waiting for. I can't write or read small, and yes, I can zoom up on the smaller devices but then I can't read the whole page at once. I don't need a lot of fancy, I just need it bigger than 10". I bought a Kindle Scribe last year and, although I kind of like reading on it, that's not really what I bought it for, and it's waaaay too small for me for taking notes or journaling.
Very hyped for Note Max! Almost a dream device just looking at the form factor (battery is still on the lower side though). Hope this comes before the 100-day return window of RMPP ends so I can decide which to keep!
LOL, Good luck on that return window. But like I said in the vid, I don't think we doing to see the Note Max till after the New Year. Thanks for stopping by :)
I love the 10.3 inch Go, except I wish there was a 13.3 inch version as most of my content is A4 size PDFs. The Note Max is similar and with the desired size, but... -the left bezel is too big; I guess it is for an optional keyboard attachment -I wish it didn't have BSR as it literally drains the battery; too bad it can't be disabled
Agreed. Though the tech can't be turned on and off. It can be optimized to run at lower speeds when not in use. In the eInk center. Maybe that'll help with battery drain.
That's coming (13.3" color Boox device with frontlight) I can guarantee that. But it's prolly gonna be in the New Tab X device when they refresh it. I checked and eInk Corp Has a 13.3" Kaleido screen. Just a matter of time.
Onyx Boox bumps the specs of their tablets because they want you to be able to use various android apps and those are not so well optimized. The Penstar, the Remarkable or the Supernote uses closed software on their devices and although you may install any 3rd party app but don't expect comfort of use. Onyx wants their tablets to be closer to regular tablets with how they are used and that requires more power. Also I don't understand the Note Max naming convention. Its design is closer to Go10.3 rather than Note (Air) series soo.. why not name it Go13.3 ? Either way a good upgrade of old Tab X device.
Thanks for your perspective on the spec bumps, very valid. It really should have been called the GO 13.3. I think because it has BSR, it doesn't have the "Go" moniker. I don't think this is a Tab X update. I think when they do upgrade the Tab X it's gonna be Color Kaleido 3 13.3" 🤞🏿
I agree, they're definitely going to make a phone eventually! And if they don't, they'd be missing out on a huge opportunity because I would buy one instantly lol. I've been trying to decide if I wanted to bite the bullet on the Palma, but now I guess I'm going to go with the Palma 2! Nice video style. You got a new subscriber :)
I'm with you on the Firmware. I'm now interested in the software. I really want a 13 inch Tab series device in color but firmware updates were really needed. Hope they roll that firmware out to all devices.
Flawless as always my friend. I agree with you on all counts. I do really like the subtopics for the table of contents. I know Supernote has been talking about that for a while. We will see if they also provide a serious software update with the A5X2. The Boox Note Max is really cool to me, smart move not having a front light.
Hey Ed and Thank my friend. I agree, very smart move to not add the frontlight, but that fact should make this device a "Go" line of device... weird but whatever, I love it!
Not having a frontlight is the biggest deal breaker ever. I wouldn't consider smart something that impairs drastically the usability range of any product.
@enzomasci5218 Yea, its a tradeoff you make when you want the smallest pen-to-display distance. Some people value that over the light. They have a Tab X that I really like as well. 13.3 with B/W screen and it has a front light. Only 227PPI I think but thats not bad.
Don't feel too bad. It's really not that much of an "upgrade" You still doing really well with a NA3C. If I'm not given one for review, I may skip it myself.
What I want (and need) is OneNote-like capabilities for the native Notes app. I want to be able to edit those notes on my Mac or online. I’m definitely going to get that 13.3 device though. I love my Go 10.3, I can’t wait for the bigger version of it.
That's on a lot of peoples wish list. I don't think they have enough incentive to allow their system to be used on any device. One day maybe. Thanks for the comment.
There are some vids of the Boox China exclusive devices that showed an improved color screen on a device called the T10C (aka Go 10.3 Color) I believe. They do a side by side with something they call a Tab10C that shows the color popping more with more detail. Hopefully that improved color from the T10C is what they put in the new Air 4. I was hoping they'd release the T10C here in the US since it's the same form factor as the Go 10.3 but with color. However, it looks like we get the Note Air 4.
That's interesting. I assumed they needed BSR for their Color devices. However, if they put color in a non-BSR device like the Go 10.3, BSR may not be a necessity for their implementation of color. After more digging, It looks like the improvements to the Kaleido 3 tech are a Faster refresh rate, a Whiter screen, and more vibrant colors due to the way the screen is lit. I need to do more digging but I'll take those gains... for now :) Thanks for stopping by and sharing. Feel free to leave your thoughts on the new Kaleido 3 tech, if you have some theories :)
can’t wait for outline and hyperlinked pdfs (and better pdf template handling generally, not the ‘one page at a time’ just let me open a full pdf and have all pages available).
Agreed say the 10.3 is a bit small. I say though, the rMPP might be the perfect PDF size device. Just big enough so you don't have to reflow, but small enough to be manageable. That 13.3 screen is going to be awesome, but a bit unwieldy. Thanks for the comment.
I was going to grab a go 10.3. I will only use a eink device to read, take notes, and Bible study. The color aspect seems nice for notating my Bible but any recommendations from others here if I should go 4c or stay go 10.3
Funny... the colors on the 4C look actually a tad more saturated than on the 3C in direct comparison... but it's technically the same Kaleido 3 screen?
The screen tech is slightly better on the Note Air 4C. Whiter background, faster refresh rate due to different backplane tech, and brighter colors due to newer front lighting tech. Hope this helps, thanks for stopping by :)
First time your channel came across my feed. Great presentation! Question, how do these devices compare to the 800 lb gorilla, reMarkable II device out there? These are always a nice to have device, but the subscription model of the RM always kept me from buying one. There was a recent Kickstarter project for an eInk device, but that is too iffy. Do these devices have subscription models also?
No subscriptions here and you get a bit of free online storage. They also let you link to your other online storage if you have Google, Dropbox, or OneDrive. Their services are pretty good.
OMG the 1300 Carta paired with 300ppi i got to see it was about to get the go 10.3. I hope this is simular to go 10.3. I agree with blacklist and its perfect for pdf textbooks etc.
was looking forward to your take on this. there are a couple important differences w/ the 4C: the new CPU enables BSR 2.0 (we haven't seen it in action yet, but no doubt we will soon), AI (as you noted), and 13 will have security updates for several more years. agree about the Note Max being a bigger, better Go 10.3, that screen plus BSR 2.0 is going to be SICK, especially with the lack of backlight giving us that short distance from pen to ink. also psyched about this outlining stuff, which, btw, you predicted them stealing/one-upping Supernote 😎 really want that 4.0 firmware on the Tab Mini C. fingers crossed. (it's also so funny to me how the guy they have doing these presentations clearly has no idea what he's talking about and is just kind of haltingly reading from a script he doesn't understand.)
Thank you for the Super Thanks! And thank you for that BSR 2.0 info. Totally new to me but considering everything together, it all makes sense. Any stats on that new Kaleido 3 Screen? Similar to the new Colorsoft screen or nah?
@@rantsabouttechnology don't think we know yet but I'm also very curious. this is the second time I've seen a claim from someone about how they "increased the contrast on Kaleido 3" or improved it or whatever, idk if that means they made actual changes to the e-paper tech or if they did something with their own surface layers that they add or what. just have to wait and see!
