      @@andyboardman7428 Yes. The north is similar to the north of Lanzarote, but assuming you stayed in the resort areas in the south of Gran Canaria, the ones here are smaller.

Is the restaurant open to the public and can I go for an afternoon tea etc. Also do I have to book..cheers. also as we are coming in September is it possible to meet you in person and can I bring you something traditional British you are missing..as a gift. My friend who lives in France loves her Yorkshire tea ..cheers alan

      Hi Alan. The hotel is the Arrecife Gran, and yes, you can have drinks or cocktails in the rooftop bar, and use the restaurants, even if you aren’t staying there.
      Thank you for the kind offer, but there isn’t anything we miss. 😄

    Hi Mike,
    it seems that we have very different ideas about what "scathing" means.
    Here's the definition from the Cambridge dictionary:
    criticising someone or something in a severe and unkind way.
    And here's my original comment:
    Thanks, as always, for this video. But, as far as we can see, who needs cruise ships? We certainly don't want to see any near here. What kind of tourists is Lanzarote hoping to get? But maybe as long as it brings the money in, it's OK.
    This doesn't seem severe and not at all unkind.
    You replied:
    I suspect the people who enjoy cruising want them. But for the island, they're great. They bring people here to spend their money and enjoy Lanzarote, loads of local businesses earn revenue by taking them on excursions, and the passengers don't put any strain on our infrastructure, because they're not actually staying here using the accommodation, water, electricity etc. Finally, many a cruise passenger has visited Lanzarote for the first time on a cruise, fallen in love with the island, and become a regular visitor.
    I replied:
    Then we find it very surprising that some places are refusing to allow cruise ships to dock. We would like to see tourists who stay longer than the current average stay. Less pollution from planes and cruise ships.
    And this week you've talked about the number of cruise ship visitors again. Have you any data about how many go on paid excursions? Or the other things you mentioned? According to your logic it would be better to only have cruise ship visitors and no hotels as this wouldn't use any of the inland's resources. (Maybe the island should take a bit more care of its resources and not let half of the water leak from the distribution system before it reaches the end user.) And again, your arguments seem limited to producing income for the island, not mentioning the negative environmental effects of cruise ships. As I wrote in my comment about quads and buggies recently, I think César Manrique would turn in his grave if he knew about this. Lanzarote is a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve and cruise ships are the last things we need/want.

    • @LanzaroteInformation
      @LanzaroteInformation  27 днів тому

      Of course I’m not suggesting that we should only have cruise ships. What the island needs is a good balance of tourism, which includes cruise, sports tourism, beach tourism, gastro tourism etc. And not having too much reliance on one sector gives some security if any one sector weakens. But that’s my opinion, and yours is clearly different, which is fine.
