As a hairdresser, I had a local funeral home ask me if I would do hair and makeup for certain families who had special requests. I did it a few times…. Coloring hair for a corpse on an embalming table. Could only do it a few times before I got too emotional and tired of reeking like formaldehyde
Not an easy job, is it? I'm a funeral director, and its really demoralizing to hear people constantly talk about how we are scammers despite working really hard in an industry that is very demanding, and often emotionally taxing. People have no problem paying a doctor 10k for a surgery that takes 3 hours, but funeral directors are literally scammers because we want to be able to pay our hard working employees a livable wage?

1. Your previous searches.
2. Amount of time you look at a particular page.
3. IP address of your router at home, this includes ALL devices connected on that particular router will now be infecting each other's devices with their own recommendations.
4. Approximation. This is done through 2 or more devices come near each other long enough, like your friends devices or your spouse, and devices will identify that you are hanging out together and start to share recommended content on each other's devices.
In Joe's case, if his wife had searched purses and they're hanging out together long enough, then that content will now be pushed to Joe as well. If they were both connected to the same router then this is an even stronger case for shared recommendations across those devices. Now it seems like your friend was talking to you about a particular car and even though you never searched it yourself, by the time you finish your drinks and you get home, all of a sudden that particular car you were talking about comes up as content on your device.
This is the gist of how this crap works.
