Rest in Peace Clarence Henry II (March 19, 1937 - April 7, 2024), known as Clarence "Frogman" Henry, was an American rhythm and blues singer and pianist, best known for his hits "Ain't Got No Home" (1956) and "(I Don't Know Why) But I Do" (1961). He was the opening act for 18 dates on their tour for the Beatles including when they played his home New Orleans in 1964
Because it's a simple, down to earth, feel good song unlike today's music. Whoever decided to include his song in the Expedia commercial is an advertising genius !
@ I too heard it on a commercial and memories flooded back. I hurried to my screen and played it on You Tube as I do most days now. I just love his clear voice 'telling a story'.
Hidden jewel on UA-cam. Thanks for posting. I’m 67 and long for the days when singers could sing, had stage presence, class and understood the value of accompanying instrumental talent. Clarence Henry, no auto-tune, fireworks, smoke or other special effects was stellar. Miss him so much.
70 something years ago we heard this at every dance in high school. N li w it's in a commercial and I still remember every word. This is a real golden oldie, Frogman.
One of my parents jam in the weekends...they duet well to this beautiful classic. I too love this song. Clarence a mighty talent with a gorgeous voice❤️
One of the many songs in my parents' magical box of 45s. I got acquainted with so much music I wouldn't have otherwise heard. When I got older they gifted me with the box. Still have it. Miss you Mom!

That Expedia ad uses a gimmick often used in advertising nowadays, that being, the use of mixed race couples, as research has shown that people tend to continue watching out of mere curiosity. This catchy song just adds icing to the cake on a well-made commercial....
I watched this man make a guest appearance on stage with Charmaine Neville about 5 years ago and I had no idea he recorded this song. Learned something new this morning. Hope to see him again. This is a terrific song.
One of my BEAUTIFUL Mother's faves. 2 years today and almost to the moment and it still hurts just as much. I hope you are singing this up there with your wings Mum. WE LOVE MISS AND ADORE YOU MORE THAN WORDS CAN EVER SAY. Can't wait to see you again Mum. Love us all down here XXXX

This is great, but there is one more person we need to give props to - that is Bobby Charles. He is the writer, and a very well known Louisiana writer of that era. Robert Charles Guidry.
Heard this song years ago as my dad use to play it when I was younger. So glad the younger generation are getting a chance to hear it through the commercial. You can't beat the oldies😉
I remember this song when it first came out back in Victorian times. I love this live version and watching the drummer play triplets on the hi-hat over a shuffle beat. It's great hearing a live band rather than the computerised tosh that's going on at the moment. I'm 73 and still playing drums in a funk rock band. Don't let the bastards grind you down!
I vaguely remembered this from my teenage years, and when I heard it on the Expedia commercial had to look it up. Brought back memories I didn't even know I had. Wow, music is a very safe "drug" that puts me on a high every time. Just love the way CFH says "do" and "blue" !
Added note: Just looked over at my cockatiel, Chipper, and he was standing next to his phone(yep he has one, my first one) looking at himself bobbing his head up and down with the beat. See he appreciates good music too!
The classic song came out in December 1960 as "I Don't Know Why." After confusion with a 1931 song called "I Don't Know Why (I Just Do)," Argo changed the title of the Frogman's song to "But I Do." After that, many people came to use the fuller title "(I Don't Know Why I Love You) But I Do" when they talk about it. In his cover version of "You're Sixteen," Ringo Starr paid tribute to this song by singing its title once as his song fades out.
If Clarence can see this , I don’t know why I love you but I do! I think you are fantastic and I would have loved to have know you. God bless from the U.K.
A true classic live performance to say the least. I first heard the studio cut of this gem from the Cruisin' 1961 radio album with Arnie Ginsberg of WMEX, Boston. You can hear how much Clarence was influenced by Fats Domino. The instrumental at the end makes this a true video nugget! Thanks for posting. We need more heartwarming recordings like this to get us through these troubling times!!
I have this song on a disc in my car. I was driving along with my Wife one day and it came on. I said " I remember you sitting on my knee and me singing this to you the first Christmas that we were together, I was so happy that you were my Girlfriend" She smiled and turned to me and said "it wasn't me"..........oops!
I fell in love with the song the first time I heard it from Hospital Playlist, I searched the lyrics and finally found it. I am thankful that even it’s already midnight I found a beautiful masterpiece. So worth it 🥰 so classic! 🥰

No autotune, no prerecorded backing. This is what music is supposed to be
It was when I was a little kid man.

Clarence Frogman Henry is a true classic singer" I love that song " today's music is crap .!!!!

Hate to say it, but I agree. The majority of "today's music" is electronic crap. Give me the sixties ANY day!!
