- On the 75th Anniversary of the Royal New Zealand Navy, this documentary follows the frigate HMNZS Te Kaha on a journey around the world, from commemorating the centenary of the Gallipoli campaign in Turkey, toa high-stakes anti-narcotics operation off the coast of Africa.
Reminded me when on HMAS Vendetta we attended independence of Solomon Islands in 1978 also volunteered to paint the Red Cross building at Honiara. BZ to your crew.
I worked as a civilian for many years back in the days and people use to say the Navy don't do much but as you can see they do a lot to help. Bless them all. And bless the old civi life which has been and gone.
Nothing but respect for RNZN keep going hard guys and remember go harder

Tihei Maori Ora! Rest in peace the Maori and New Zealanders lost in the sand on the beaches of Gallipoli, rest in peace you will never... be... forgotten..
A good documentary. Good to see you still in JJ and Dix.
Ugh Gallipoli will always be such a sad emotional memory😭❤
Being in the Army I was always jealous of the Navy, a hard out legit service arm that do some great work.
Don’t be jealous 😂 it’s not that great, I’ve always been jealous of the Army.
Fantastic ship and crew, well done
Thanks - it was an amazing opportunity and definitely came away with a huge respect for RNZN and Te Kaha!
Really enjoyed watching this. BZ
I didn't expect a video on the Navy to start with a Dr Seuss quote of all things lol, but otherwise great video.
I used that quote because the ship's commander had a copy of that book in his cabin, that his family had given to him. :)
Gracias por compartir
17:06 Ancient greek city ;)
I wonder if the ghosts gather on the hills and look on the commemorations.
And, being a warship do they need official permission to dock in a foreign port?
I bet they only found a small part of the drugs.
Hello, What is the song at the end of the video? It starts at around 56:56 and continues till the end of the video. Quite a beautiful song.
Po Ata Rau by Ana Hato & Deane Waeretini
@@julianarvey Thank you!!

My great Uncle was one of the ones that dies on the Leander when it was Torpedoed.
How is it that a country in our position, with our wealth, our dependence on ocean trade - only have two escort vessels (Light frigates)?
Because you have strong friends
@@mrwood4557 that's true. But should they have too? And what if they get sick of paying for everyone else's ability to sail the seas, access distant markets without harassment while they have their own problems at home?
@@Shanetangybits Bit optimistic to think our government is capable of planning ahead
BZ Ships Company TeKaha🎉❤
Anyone know the song at the end
Now Is The Hour.
Po. Atarau
Kia kaha.
I believe the ship was called Te Kaha. 🤭
I think they should grow saffron and truffles to make money 💰 rather than growing poppies to make drugs.
Glad Alcohol is banned on NZ ships. Proud of these young kiwis.
Shame they need rum shots like ships of old
@@mrwood4557 Don't forget the penicillin shots like days of old.😀
What! No alcohol! Fuck that
Lets play Devils advocate... What right does any Navy have to board vessels on the high sea ? Heroin is a legal product in many places, (including the USA if its a tax paid and approved pharmaceutical product) is this just part of the USAs unjust, and undeclared war on third world countries ? Why does the NZ Navy need a US serviceman to 'test and approve' what they do ? I am so proud of the brave men and women of our military. But I am so ashamed that we just seem to be a tiny we arm of US imperialist interests. NZ should have a proud, independent, and effective defence force. It should never be a vassal for US interests, and if that means we need to become neutral and spend more on defence, then we should do it.
You raise some really good points. This particular aspect of the war on drugs (certainly an arguable point in itself) isn't just a US thing, it's NATO-led from what I understand, so much bigger than that. The heroin trade funds terrorism in the Middle East, which is also not an entirely black-and-white issue. There is certainly an irony in demonisation of the heroin trade while prescription opioid abuse is at epidemic rates in the US, to the extent that it has led to the first recorded decrease in the average lifespan in that country in recent years.
Why are you policing on Somali coast you country is at the other end of the world don't you have enough issue in you area we cannot even import arma to defens our land you lot is there size for no obvious reason.
That route is a very popular route for heroin trafficking and NZ is part of an international defence force that stops the heroin trade in that area, BEFORE it gets to our country. Hope this helps explain :)
You must be a drug smuggler lamo
Because drugs go through this area of the world. We are there to prevent them from ever coming to NZ. Also we need to keep international shipping safe from pirates.
New Zealand has only 2 frigates the NZ Navy is pathetic
You're smart enough to realise this isn't a NZDF problem, It's a governmental funding ( or lack of ) problem.
@@soulpaua2097 And a lack of caring and relying on other countries problem too.
