That's cool. thanks for posting this. for anyone who gets a used sigma this is very useful!
No problem 😉
Taking apart mine right now to get the dust out, thanks for the video!
You're welcome! 😉
Sigma lens have 4 years warranty. I just got mine back for dust and f-- error. Turnaround was only 5 days.
Only 5 days? Thanks for letting me know. (I looked at my Sigma warranty card, it says “1 year limited warranty”)
Thanks for this, I might own one soon and I'm not sure it's a first gen or not. I do have a tip for you tho, when you blow out the dust, hold it sideways, not up because half the dust will just fall back in.
The amount of tabs inside, they are there for aligning adjustment?
Sigmas with serial numbers BELOW 5504xxxx will have this dust issue. As for the silver tabs I'm assuming for alignment, but lens will have very random number of tabs. Some will have 3 some 1 or 2 some 0. I'm not sure what's up with that 🤷♂️
Thank you so much for this tear down video, it’s a huge help! By chance would you know the measurements for the screws? I’ve had one missing since I bought my lens
Thanks! I mentioned the screwdriver size in the video.
@@MakingTracks Ah sorry I heard you mention using a Phillips 00, meant the screw dimensions (ie. thread size + diameter + depth)
Sorry that I don't know.
@@MakingTracks all good! Time to bust out the tape measure when i replace the filter ring
I have yet to actually dig some known quantities out to compare but I believe the silver screws (that secure the first optic to the rest of the lens) are M2 x 6mm, i’m not confident enough to measure the pitch
WOW! THANK YOU SO MUCH DUDE! ✨
Anytime! 😉
Have you had any dust inside since you cleaned it out?
Unfortunately Yes. I did make another video on how to make a gasket from tape ua-cam.com/video/cQoH0TlKd1o/v-deo.htmlsi=aCiIGLLgtO5YUhX3 , but in the end I sold the lens and I bought the Tamron 28-200mm instead.
@@MakingTracks legend. Thank you!
@@MakingTracks I wanna do the opposite... is the dust issue that bad? I currently have the 28-200 and I'm thinking of selling it for the 24-70 art, and there are a couple of options in front of me
Why would you sell the 28-200mm for the 24-70? The dust is quite bad however it doesn't affect the image quality (it won't show in photos) but there will be a LOT of dust. 2nd option if you really really want a sigma 24-70 is make sure to buy one with the serial number ABOVE 5504xxxx apparently they "fixed" the gasket dust issue. Please note I've tested these 2 lenses in terms of image "quality" and I didn't notice any difference with the exception of the 28-200mm is weak in the 28-35 mm range.
@@kirokite4694 I cleaned out just like this video, it was so easy to do and to follow along
Is that zoom noise normal? …any way to quiet that down? Nice video!
Thanks. Yes that zoom noise is normal.
@@MakingTracks thank you!
Next time unscrew just the silver screws..
Afaik they fixed that, starting around serial number 5650xxxx
Yes I know but I have the model from before
