Sheeeeeshh Josh, you absolutely crushed this review. One of the best, most concise lens comparison reviews I’ve seen actually.
Thanks Dylan! I appreciate the kind words!
Excellent comparison Josh, thank you! I've had the Sigma for my A7SIII since it came out - it's definitely a warmer and greener-looking lens which I prefer most of the time. This comparison has convinced me I don't need the GM II. Thanks again for your efforts.
You're welcome. Thanks for watching!
@Josh_Sattin Josh can you do me a favour. Test the active steady shot stabilisation? I have the sigma but also have the stabilisation set to on, thus having a slight crop. Does active steady shot work on the sigma and how much of a difference is it on Sony. Thanks.
Thank you, Josh! I had the Sony 24-70 in my cart but decided to do more research since I am a new Sony user. Your review was very helpful. I will go with the Sigma and upgrade in the future if I think it is necessary.
dude i was wondering about this a couple days ago and i'm glad i waited to look it up till now so i could find this video. one of the best reviews/comparisons i've seen in a minute, told me absolutely everything i needed to know. thank you so much! you just got a new subscriber haha
You are very welcome. Thank you for the support!
Smash hit review Josh. Thank you!
A bonus for the Sigma ,is the zoom goes the right way ,for anyone used to cine zooms or ENG zooms , a shame Sony does the "wrong way" the PZ lenses you can change in the camera menu ,fx cameras anyway , but not these stills lenses , just being able to not think about the zoom direction is worth it for me .Also love their newer model DGDN Art primes , but wish they would come out with a new 24-70 with an aperture ring.
FX3 owner as well. Exact video I needed in my life right now. Thank you!
You're welcome. Thanks for watching!
Very helpful and informative comparative review, Thank you so much Josh! God bless and good luck!
You're welcome. Thanks for watching!
Great video. Thank you for the review. Going to go for the Sigma
very helpful, thank you. Definitely helped in decide which to get, or should I say, gave me a ton of information to look at with regards to which direction two go. Thank you
You're welcome. Glad the video was helpful and thanks for watching!
Great comparison work !!! Thank you!!!

When I had my Sony A74 this was the first lens I bought and it was always glued to the body. I was ok with its size and weight. I thought it was well balanced. Loved it - amazing quality photos for $1299 Canadian when on Sale. I shot my daughters prom with the Sigma. Wish they had this lens for Canon or Nikon.
So, with the money for the Sony 24-70 i can buy the Art 14-24 AND 24-70 lenses. Is this even a question?
So many great options for Sony. I have the Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 G2 and love it.
I have this too and the vignetting and distortion are really bad.
This was actually very useful for me. My only 24-70 is the old F4 Zeiss and its always had a sharpness problem. It was an open box product so someone clearly returned it for a reason. I aim to replace it with something better. Sigma might be it.
Nice! Glad the video was helpful for you. Yeah, you won’t be disappointed with the Sigma.
between the sigma and original GM used, which one is better value?
Great review!! thanks
You're welcome. Thanks for watching!
Thank you so much sir, it helped me a lot!
You're welcome. Thanks for watching!
Props to Sigma for keeping things competitive. The first Sigma 24-70mm was solid. NGL I kind of liked the warm cast, but I did upgrade to the GM II for autofocus and weight saving
What about the Stabilisation?
Your information is still helpful❣️
Awesome. Thanks for watching!
Compared to the original Sony 24-70 GM how much better is this one? I’m looking to buy a 24-70 and found the original 24-70 GM at the same price as the New Sigma 24-70ii Which one would you recommend?
I have and love the Sigma for photography. I just couldn't justify the cost since I'm not a pro photographer...even then it may be tough. Thanks for the video!
You're welcome. Thanks for checking out the video!
The last thing people would notice is the difference between lenses. Ultra edge to edge sharpness isnt something normal people care about. You photos look great :)
Thank you for you review
You're welcome. Thanks for watching!
Do you have any comparison or experience with this lens on a newer body like A7RV or the A7CII? Curious to see how it responds to the new AF chip.
Unfortunately I do not.
Spinoff question.. If you have or have experienced these two lenses, what would you choose btw Sony 24-105 OSS G and the Sigma 24-70 dg dn ? thx... still on the fence about the gmii and I own the 24-105 and shoot mostly video.
Those are both great lenses and more of a personal choice. I haven't used the 24-105 F4 that much, but I general choose a 24-70 2.8 over a 24-105 4, but that's just what I like.
Sigma is a great choice!
I would like this video twice if I could, soooo great!
Thanks for watching!
Thank you!

Hi there Josh, a question... Is the Dust a really issue in the Sigma? I work on the Car Scene, and I'm moving into the track side of it, so there is a lot of dust, in the air, gas from the oils and gasoline etc.. I need some thing between that range of 20-70 non Prime to work on Pits and others areas beside the track but I keep reading that sigma gets dust in the inner glass easily
As I mentioned, it was an issue with the early production of the Sigma, but supposedly it has been less of an issue with later copies.
If you have the older lense like mine. They take it in for free to fix it. Note. The newer and post fix lense have a stiffer zoom ring. Bit of a hindrance for me hence why I haven't decided to send mine in. Smooth Zoom is key for me.
Another point that wasn't mentioned. The speed of the Sigma lense has limited speed of approx 20 fps, where as the GM support the speed of Sony A9 III = 120 fps. Not relevant for most people, but if you need the top fps that Sony A9 or A1 can deliver, then the GM is the only choice.
I have an older model of Sigma 24-70 (the one with dust issues), and I ended up with buying the GM, simply because I trust (personally) the build quality more from the GM, than I do with the Sigma.
thank you !!
You're welcome. Thanks for watching!
How much the OS of the Sony lens help since the Sigma doesn't have? I use gimbal a lot and minimising that small jittery of the gimbal helps in post.
Neither of these lenses have stabilization.
@@Josh_Sattin yeah found out just afterwards haha. that''s why it's smaller than the gm i I guess
@@leomatis_ The 24-70 GM I doesn't have stab either.
The body of a7siii /fx3 has active steadyshot. Whether it works on Sigma. Not too sure. Would be great to test this feature please. @@Josh_Sattin
Hey Josh, you forgot to mention one of the most important differences: linear manual focus, which is enough IMO to justify the GM. I owned and shot with Sigma DG DN lenses and non repeatable manual focus became a nightmare eventually.
Yo! This is a great point!!! I’m shooting manual a lot of the time! Thanks
He literally said both are fly by wire lol Sony doesn’t give you an option in camera to do linear focus like Panasonic does.
@@mirrorlessmemory you don’t need an option in camera. Certain Sony lenses have a linear manual focus response (meaning repeatable manual focus pulls) despite being fly by wire.
Does sigma have problems with autofocus? Have heard it many times...
Love the review! I own the sigma and the autofocus motor is NOISY
the quality of your images are perfect. super well balanced!
Thank you so much!
My mind just goes to, what other film gear can I buy for the extra $1200 i'd save with the Sigma !!
Definitely had dust in my sigma. Thought I was just being picky
isn it this lens that has tons of recent reviews about how bad this sigm is avbout internal dust? lots of folks saying in a veru short time it gets a lot of dust inside.
Please watch the whole video. I address this in this video.
Do u need an adapter for the sigma
Nope. Not the DG DN E mount version.
The G in G Master is for the extra grand you're spending :)
Hi josh I wanna say you are amazing and your guides are insane. I have finally saved up a decent chunk towards my dream of video production and content creation. I was wondering If you think this option is still viable in 23 going into 24. Planing on buying Fx3 with 24-70 gm II , 50mm 1.2 gm. I have about 10k budget gave or take. would you go this route still or a different way?
I responded to your other comment.
The GMII for me on my A7R5. It’s made for the 61mp’s and will resolve much better.
After watching this vid i bought Sigma
The one thing you didn’t cover is how well the stabilization performs in video. The Sony is much much better so if you do a lot of handheld video shooting with active stabe on, the Sony will be much better. But for everything else, the Sigma is a way better value.
Does Sony 24-70 2.8 gm2 have stabilization?
Can you elaborate? Both don't have OSS.
@@franklinpark4475 sure. Send me yours Ill do it
Sony 24-70 mm doesn't support OSS
Damn, you should have tamron 28-75 included, this lens is so under rated and have a nice character to it 😅 thinking of selling g master 24-70 for it 😅
And that's why I'm leaving canon for sony. The sigma is such a good lense and it costs only a fraction of what canon charges...
bought v1 sigma for 350 equivalent used but not abused
now do a new one with the Sigma Mk2… 🤝
How it's a tuff call??? would be a tuff call if it was 1100 and 1300 usd...
Had the sigma for a while. Will not go to Sony GM
Most important for me,Sigma 24-70 F2.8 DG DN is parfocal and the SONY 24-70 F2.8 GM ii is not.
Are you sure?
No, he is not.
Imagine that being true about an $1100 2.8 zoom.@@travelpatron
@@jacksonjackson9474it’s quite close though, which is very impressive for its price point
nice video but ffs please use metrics like all of the world minus the USA, thank you!
We prefer these metrics lol
The big problem of the sigma is the Auto focus 😢
not worth it!
what isn't? the sony? yeah
Thank you!
