  • This is a short video tutorial of Chopin Ocean Etude. I have never personally studied the piece but it has so often been requested that I decided to take a look at it. I tried to go over the main technical issues so that it could be as helpful as possible. I hope it helps.
I will make a more detailed tutorial of the Etude at a later date but for now I have so many other piano projects that it will have to wait.

Older, longer tutorial which I had not seen because I don't play this repertoire; lots of great considerations here on many aspects of learning, performing a piece. Didn't mention it as a separate note but learning it slowly is modeled. These are specific techniques employed to eventually interpret the music credibly, "musically." Accents and other articulations will be vital to a fine rendering. Nice work, can be applied to any repertoire, genre or style. Technical and musical considerations are the same. Just basically solid technique and common sense in learning, eliminating potential for injury and the fastest path to the goal of mastering the piece up to one's skill level. Quite an advanced undertaking. Seems like all Craig's videos are now very short. Either way, good stuff. Got my Piano Lab fix for the day.

Even if this is not for your level don't forget this is a study... Y practiced slowly the winter etude and also the moment musical 4 Em by Rachmaninoff, still I can't play them at full speed, maybe max half speed, but they help you a lot, you will feel a difference after practicing them for quiet some time even if you never play them fast, eventually you will get it, patience, persistence and practice :D good luck

You are very welcome! Sorry it took so long and like I said, I will in the near future make a much more in-depth tutorial once I have the time to give the Etude the proper attention it deserves.

I play the piano since October 2019 and I dream of playing this etude! I hope that I’ll be able to play this one day. There are so many pieces I would love to learn but I don’t think that I’m that good to learn them so I think I have to practice more and have more patience. Thanks for the tips even though the video is for more advanced (pros) people!😊

Good tutorial. Just wondering on Paul Barton excellent tutorial on this he says to cover the notes so that would mean stretching the hand to an octave.?

I am, currently working on a Chopin Etude project where I will perform and make tutorials on all of them (op25 & op10). I will also make some "quick tips" videos on them as I go. However as you might imagine, that is a HUGE project so it's going to take some time.
