The song is a tribute to his parents who both died at a young age. The lyrics are about living life as an orphan, which Joost is himself. That’s why he says ‘Euro-papa’, ‘being alone in Germany’ and ‘Papaoutai’ (dad where are u?) and ends with this sad ending. His dad told him that there are no boundaries in the world, both in personal achievements and between countries

Well, he did say he didn't want fish and chips, but it could be that he pronounced chips a bit like 'ships'.
For British English speakers: Note that this was a reference to the fish and chips as they are meant in the UK. In the Netherlands, they use the American word 'fries' when they speak English and refer to 'chips', because in Dutch the word 'chips' (often pronounced as 'ships') means what the British call crisps. It's probably to avoid confusion because of these 'false friends'. Joost's reference was to the British meaning of chips this time.

papa means dad in Dutch. Europapa is dedicated to his dad which passed away due to cancer. He was just a little kid 12 years old. His mom died a year later due to a cardiac arrest. Writing songs is like a therapy to dedicate songs mostly to his parents. His father give him the mindset that there are no borders. Borders are just invented by people so dare to think without limits. why don't you invent your own world. If you want to know more about Joost Klein you should give Florida 2009 a shot and Wachtmuziek. Both are in Dutch but there are lyrics for you can translate in English. It gives a better understanding who he is.

Background info: I'm 32 years old, from the netherlands and a teacher to kids from 16-20.
Some of my students were wearing T-Shirts thay said "Joost Klein Eurovisie 2024" for a loooong time. And I was skeptical, felt kind of to old when I saw his Lowlands performance. But the crowd was LOVING it, so I understood what he meant to them.
Now when I heard this song, it took me waaay back. My older sister loved happy hardcore, my parents.... not so much. But the tunes always made me happy and me and my sister would listen to cd's in her room and dancing.
When I heard this song it took me back to those days and absolutely fell in love with it. I understand the people at the Lowlands show now. When the ending came in, tears in my eyes.
It's odd. I feel like I shouldn't like this as much as I do. I wish Joost a great life, he is making awesome work he loves and he made his parents proud. That's really cool for a humble guy from Friesland.

EDM, Gabber, Happy Hardcore, With a touch of Joost. (Pronounce: shout "YO!" and add "ST" to it)
Joost is a weird but great artist. (Underdog)
This song is a compilation of soooo many emotions by text, samples, lyrics, clip and editing. Only one who thinks outside "a" box can produce this. And yes, this is all Joost with a little help from his friends, like we all accomplish great things! Happiness! Also when bad things happened. I think the meaning of the end is: "Stand still for a while, accept what happened but press "play" again and have fun!"
Love to all who read this.

His father taught him that the world has no borders and that borders are just made up by people.Thats why Joost is mentioning al the country's, its not really about Europe. He always watched Eurovision with his dad and told him he was ging to be part of it one day. The Papaoutai is also a refrence to his dad (means 'where are you dad'). 'Papa' also means 'dad' in Dutch, thats why its called Europapa :) A lot of emotion behind this ´happy´ track.

    • @AlexVyncke
      @AlexVyncke 3 місяці тому

Papaoutai is also a reference to a song with the same name by belgian artist stromae who also makes quite danceble music about heavy themes. Papaoutai is about Stromae's father that died in the Rwanda genocide.

As Joost said himself: “this is more Dutch than being a ‘singer/songwriter”. It’s intertwined with our culture. The dancestyle to this music is called ‘hakken’ and is a full workout if you go for it! In Dutch ´papa´ means ´daddy´. So he sings about his father who once tought him there are no borders (limits). No borders like now in the EU. His father died when he was only 12 years old. I guess, that's why you see the kid that looks like him and the old dude in the video. The title of the song translates as Eurodaddy. All in all it is well put together. I think this is probably the Eurovision song with the biggest personal touch ever! Even I, as an old dude myself (63 years old), I was really touched by his song. I recognized a lot in him. And I think many people who have had heavy traumatic experiences on a very young age and had to struggle hard to get the chaos sorted, also. I hope he will win... WELL DONE JOOST! GO FOR IT!

It's about Europe really. A continent where you can travel freely, meet new languages and cultures just around the corner. In peace. That was not always the case. I'm Dutch but where I live the German border is 100m away and the Belgian 1000m. When I take a walk with my dog, I might speak four (yep, we have our own language Ripuarian too) different languages communicating with the local fellow natives.

Oh I forgot to mention the crazy cowboy Stetson he wears. That is no coincidence. Thanks to Putin and Trump, Europe the sleeping beauty has been disturbed. Peace must be defended to the death and we surely will do that. All in one song.

The song is about an orphan travelling around the world, his parents passed away when he was really young

  • @mvankooten8018

The song has a double meaning, dont burn the house of europe and stick together❤ but also he lost his parents at 12/13yo he said to his dad hell be in eurovision one day, so therefore he worked long on this song showing what hes learned from his parents. The world has no borders, humans create them❤
