I actually think it's the only reason to watch this movie, to check him out. Apart from that, it's a not great movie. All it will be remembered for is the song and how gorgeous Jeff Bridges is in it.
@@bpoleary1 Yes agreed, it's a crap movie. It had potential, but it's far too long and loses the plot. But Jeff and Rachel did their best because they're both great actors and weren't acting in those scenes. These was definitely a mutual attraction. I think had they not been both married, they'd have been an item. Bryan Brown was even on set to keep an eye on things...

I loved the movie! Fast paced. And yes, Jeff was a gorgeous specimen!!! Wow, wish I had seen this in 1984 when I was still young. The tears she cried during the love scene….yea, my husband did that to me when we were young. Might have saved me from marrying my first husband if I had only known it was supposed to be that hot! I can relate to that any place, anytime thing. So, yes, this movie was written and acted out by people who have known what that experience is like.
1984 was the best year in the history of mankind.

I honestly think he was the sexiest male movie star in the 70s and 80s. I first saw him in Thunderbolt and Lightfoot with Clint Eastwood, and I was just swooning for him the whole way through. In this movie too ten years later he was still incredibly sexy.

I was the same age when it came out. I saw it on HBO in 1985 & I had a mad crush on Rachel Ward for a few years too.

James woods was the 80's versions of Steve Buscemi sleazy Characters.
Jeff was absolutely gorgeous in this movie. Rachel too. I loved their scenes in Mexico. My favorite scene is when she was walking along the beach and he ran past her. The lighting was perfect and the way they were shot in silhouette was stunning.

It truly was. The cinematography then was superior to anything now. Movie camera work and direction and acting quickly became pure unadulterated garbage by 1990.

Had they just run the Against All Odds Take a Look at Me Now Phil Collins video as a trailer it would have been easier for the promo people.
I didn't care for this suspense music at all, doesn't even fit the movie. I'm thinking this trailer was ready to go before Phil was completely finished with the song and it's played at the end which is awesome. Maybe saving the best for last, but having Phil's song on the trailer would have definitely helped the movie at the box office. This is the original trailer, so might be others out there.
Remember when 2 people felt love so strongly for each other that do anything to be able to hold onto it with all they had even if it cost them their lives?
Well, modern society can kiss those days goodbye because they're the generation that messed it all up.
I'm just glad this movie was made generations before a love like that died.

Great editing for the trailer....they actually made the car race seem like a chase with bad intentions....but in reality (well, in the film) that happened when bridges and woods were still friends and it was just them being a-holes racing in traffic. Good flick.

Good film, a bit of a hidden gem.
This is a good 80s flick that you can enjoy for a night screening. You can tell that the movie was just perfect till the first 90 minutes, but then the ending wasn't so satisfying. The last scene saved them, though. The chemistry between Rachel Ward and the hunk: Jeff Bridges was brilliant, too.

The movie is a lot better than this preview. It doesn't really give you a feeling for anything about the film. On the other hand, it doesn't give away the story. Frequently, a good movie has a poor trailer and an interesting trailer with exciting scenes is a sign that they are showing you the only good parts of the entire movie because they know it won't last in the theaters when it is released. They are looking to sucker as many first weekend viewers as possible.

He's so hot in all his movies in the 70s and 80s because he was such a sexy man. The first movie I ever saw him in was Thunderbolt and Lightfoot with Clint Eastwood. That movie was in 1974, and I thought he was so hot, gorgeous, handsome, sexy, hunky, irresistible, etc, in that movie, I just swooned for him the whole way through. In Against All Odds here ten years later, he's just as incredibly hot.

The sniveling lawyer was perfect, he got what was comin to him too :)...actually Everyone in this movie was a sleazy bag...even the mother. Bridges, Ward and Karras (Sully) were the only decent people in the whole movie.. 3 out of an entire story....amazing flick

Well I agree there wasn't much to like about this movie.
Truth is, I didn't even know about it till way after I heard the song. After seeing lt about a year ago, I wasn't too impressed.

I started watching this on Netflix (April 2024) and it looked like an interesting remake of Out Of The Past, Jane Greer is even in it, according to the credits.
Then a couple minutes in, it turns into a freaking football movie.
I had to tap the screen to check if it was still the same movie or not.
