The way this is being reported you'd think* UPS were the only mail delivery service in town. They're not, and this deal will mean higher prices for ecom businesses and consumers. Where's that in your report?
Why would their be higher prices? There are reports now you can look at proving record profits and that they can afford this new deal PLUS if they still raised prices that would further prove price gouging which they could be on investigation for.
@@lextacy2008 Raising prices in line with labour costs is not by any definition price gouging. You argument regarding profits is ridiculous and irrational. Let's flip the same argument back on you. You got a wage rise in the last 18 months, so clearly you can afford more things. Why aren't you giving all of your income to companies? That's your argument, it's nonsensical.. Companies exist to make profit, as do you. That's how capitalism is played. It doesn't matter how jealous of their profits you are. The aim is to continue making profits not spend them willy nilly. They may absorb some of these labour costs but they certainly won't absorb all of them. So the cost for ecom to deliver using UPS will increase, and those ecom businesses will pass those costs on to the consumer. Thus, prices will increase. That's how capitalism works, wages only beat out on CPI when productivity is higher than wages. That rarely happens (except with automation) so CPI is usually higher than wage increases.
