The line is actually a reference to Tarot, which was an interest of Dio's. The Dancer is the lowes card in the deck, so the references are to claiming empathy for all, and that we must take care of those less favoured, as there lies the true value and answer.
"Love can be seen as the answer But nobody bleeds for the dancer" Genius: 3 possible meanings are presented: Dancer could describe a person who’s lost, and doesn’t know his way, and is just “dancing”. Thus nobody can really love others if poor, or unconditionally. Another explanation could put dancer as the person who knows the way and acts, which would mean there’s no love because nobody can truly appreciate what others do. A 3rd explanation could define dancer as one who controls everything: God. Thus, nobody truly loves God, which implies you won’t find a meaning to life without God.
I always saw it as the dancer is the person we love, someone who is majestic to behold in our eyes, yet as we all live now we wouldn't lay down our lives for those we love to watch because we only love their actions and movements, not the person.
I took it as the dancer is someone who suffers in service of others, works hard to the point of hurting or bleeding. The working class bleeds in servitude of society, and the wealthy class just partakes in the product of their work, without having to bleed in their servitude.
@@benjin3993 this is the interpretation I've always taken it as. You love the dancer for what they do, but not for they are. So you don't sacrifice anything for that love. But in order to find the line between "heaven and hell" (which is HERE) you've got to bleed even for the dancer.
It's the 2nd. Love is the answer, but no one bleeds for the dancer. and at the end it says you gotta bleed for the dancer. The dancer is the person who loves, and no one bleeds for them. No one supports the ones that act out of love.
I’ve always pictured a ballet dancer with bloody shoes, everybody sees she dancing and enjoy it, but no one bleeds for the show, people love to receive good things, not to bleed for it
This is my explanation for the part “love can be seen as the answer, but nobody bleeds for the dancer” So imagine there is a theater filled with people, and there is a singular dancer on stage performing the whole show. The show is amazing and everyone is in awe. They all leave afterward and say how much they loved the performance and how they loved being entertained, while on the other hand the dancer is backstage taking off their bloody shoes, crying because they’re exhausted from performing the same thing night after night. Love for dance/performing arts is the answer to the dancers career, the dancers income, and the dancers way of living. But at the end of the day, the people in the audience only love what the dancer can provide for them and the dancer suffers all alone.
I don't know what it means, but I don't think Dio was referring to a dancer in a literal sense. My instincts tell me that the "dancer" is in reference to the devil. I've heard of the devil being referenced as a dancer before. Perhaps it means that moral people wouldn't "bleed" or risk injury or die for the devil.

Dio is famous for referencing medieval themes in his lyrics. During the dark ages kings would hold court and subjects would perform. The most famous of these is the (court) jester. But since jester doesn't rhyme with "answer", Dio went with a different performer, the "dancer". Here Dio uses "dancer" for the everyman, the unimportant, the downtrodden (another common reference in his lyrics). Just as a dancer might have been beheaded for his/her performance per the whims of the king, today's peer of that dancer needs to beware of "kings and queens who blind your eyes and steal your dreams" and Dio further suggests that we "bleed for the dancer" as in essence the dancer is (one of) us.

I used to love introducing Sabbath to people for the first time and watching them melt down.
Dio was beautiful..beautiful song writer and beautiful voice. No one sang like he did. I believe when he wrote 'nobody bleeds for the dancer' he wrote about himself..nobody works for free..nobody works harder than an artist like Dio.
My man, your enthusiasm and unabashed joy for music is just wonderful. You're always entertaining, buddy. Have a dopeass day.
Alex: "What the hell does that mean?"
Marilyn Manson: "Art is supposed to be a question mark!"
:-D
This entire album is a masterpiece.
How do you forget the first time you hear/react to this song lol
I don't like how he is pretending this is first time he's hearing it. Cause I was literally watching the original 2 hours ago and he deleted the video.
@@Farazk434 Oh wow he did delete it!
@@joshdontforgettheintroosbo2373 wow thanks, I was thinking that I am crazy for recalling him doing reaction to this song already... Thanks Alex, now I know I can't trust even those reactions that appear genuine :/
@@Farazk434 I was just looking for it too. I watched a week ago and I was so confused when I saw the title.
@@anubhavchauhan6584 he did delete the original video
He died just after I started planning to see him live :( there’s no one else like him
Check out more singers in Sabbath.
"The Headless Cross " is a masterpiece
Angry Alan Rants Yes Tony Martin.
Headless Cross is a really good album, but the title track isn't even the best.
When Death Calls. 👍
Kill in the Spirit World 🤘 (love the solo)
Nightwing
Black Moon
Tyr and Cross Purposes are also great albums though possibly an acquired taste.
@@josephbarr1659 I mean. Its a matter of opinion. I picked it because.. from a first time hearing... that song is the best to break someone in to the singer
@@angryalanrants9574 I hear you, and it's a fair point. I felt the same way when I first played that album. Obviously, 30 years later my opinion and taste has evolved.
Die young is the best Dio era Sabbath song. Dio black Sabbath is the greatest black Sabbath.
I call it Black Dio
I know the Black Sabbath, but this song was listened to for the first time. Ronnie's voice is something between Freddie Mercury and Tom Araya. If you agree with that, like this.
That's it, I'm kanaching this album.
Much as I love Ozzy, I think Dio was the best metal vocalist of all time.
I remember buying this the day it came out. The buzz behind this record was highly anticipated by the Rock/Metal community. It did not disappoint...
YOU NEED TO REACT TO “THE TEMPLE OF THE KING”!!!!
"The world is full of Kings and Queens, they will blind your eyes and steal your dream's..It's Heaven and Hell!" So prophetic!
But yeah you reacted to this 2 years ago lol
..and forgot about it, after hearing hundreds of other new songs! That's what humans do, they err!
@@IvoryElvenson Apparently it got deleted. I'm seeing a lot of great videos being randomly deleted by youtube of late! Hell, they even did it to a Nightwish song!! Sacrilege!
Loved Ronnie my whole life!
Did you run out of songs to react to? Time to recycle through them all or what?
Lol you know damn well he’s guilty
@death21metal yaah
Guilty? What?
Come on, guys - obviously he forgot, that he already reacted to this song, so what? No one is perfect.. ;-)
@@IvoryElvenson why delete the previous reaction?
@@gaiusmitsius
Because it's a bit embarrassing, to have two 'first reactions' online..
I don't judge him for his faults and his behavior, because he's as human as I am, as human as all of us are! ;-)
Driving home from work right now and you just rocked my world
Can you react to the band Blue oysters Cult and the songs “don’t fear the reaper” & “burning for you” ??? Please? I think you’d also love the band called “Highly suspect” they’re really good too
Astronomy
“This is fucking awesome!” Couldn’t have said it better myself.
well actually you already reacted to this song 2 years ago bro :D
Man, I'm glad I wasn't the only one who caught that!
ur an OG bro
And now the old one's deleted.
Damn, I'm not happy to hear. that...
Fool, fool!
Wait what I was just watching your metal videos and didn't you react to this already
I don't think so. If he did then it is no longer on youtube.
@@mmaarrttyy123 He must have deleted it a few minutes ago.
wait really?
@@mmaarrttyy123 He did react to it I remember clearly. He deleted it.
@@haniffat yeah I was binging his metal video. I clearly remember him saying "Dio said this is the best song he ever wrote" .
This was on my birthday Alex! Of course it boosted my birthday mood bruh.
You already reacted to this song two years ago 🤔
Mandela Effect
Alexis Rivera nope
@@alexisrivera202 No I was just watching it he even mentioned Dio saying "this is the best song I ever wrote"
I don't think so and the video no longer exists if he did.
Yeah, he already reacted to this song. I remember because this is my favorite song and I think I discovered this channel with that video
Classic, I was in the marines when this came out, ozzy was going strong with his band and black Sabbath was putting quality music out with great singers.
Given it's called Heaven and Hell and the Devil is mentioned, I imagine that "the dancer" is Jesus (The Lord of the Dance).
If this is not in your top 5 metal songs seek help immediately.
Coming soon:
HOW HAVE I NEVER HEARD THIS?! "Star Spangled Banner" (REACTION)
MacPNW lmfaoooo
You should make parody reaction videos
That it was written by an Englishman?
That on and on and on and on and on man the eternity of pain expressed so well
Why are you pretending like this is the first time you're listening to this
thats his whole youtube content... extremely overly exaggerated fake reaction. I think he went from 30k subs to 550k in less than 1 year doing this crap. I'm jealous for sure to be very honest lol
@Kevin K.
Maybe because he forgot, that he already did a reaction to it?! He's just human.. ;-)
Glad you enjoyed this Alex. I’ve been listening to Def Leopard Pyromania album, “Billy’s Got A Gun” will always be my favourite song off the album
Again?
You could’ve taken a random request and reacted to but nah let’s do this one again.
Great Job Alex !!!!! Respect from Poland \m/
I recommend Dio - "Killing the Dragon" :D
That album is a masterpiece.
