THE SOUNDTRACK, THE CINEMATOGRAPHY, THE PEOPLE!!!! What more could we ask for? I mean Hozier and Mitski playing back-to-back really made my day
jack you outdid yourself with this video. it’s actually gorgeous
It's just unfortunate that he's spending so much time after uploading this video deleting any comment that brings up him not following through on his membership and subscription promises. I dunno if he's gonna just keep trying to ignore the issue after an /r/books thread with thousands of upvotes happened today calling him out on it.
@@Silverizael omg… he’s really deleting them now? I’m so disappointed ☹️
@@t0ebeans It's why I pointed this out in a reply, since he's less likely to see it (and I'm not sure if video creators can delete specific replies).
@@Silverizael yeah I scrolled down shortly after seeing this reply and saw many saying the same thing, this isn’t what I expected from him at all!
@@t0ebeans It looks like he did finally give an explanation, release the long awaited members Q&A video, and shut down the membership system since he admitted he couldn't keep up with it.
So that's something, though I feel like we really need a more public apology for not only the ghosting, but the deleting of all the comments and such activity that seemed like he was actively trying to cover up the issue until that massive /r/books thread happened.
I love how you guys give Jo and Laurie energy
they do!
damn ikr!!
Dakota’s laughter is literally the best sound I have ever heard
It kept making me smile like I was genuinely there. So contagious!
Jack’s impression of a mom going through a divorce with his cardigan actually made me laugh out loud. 😂 I love how much fun they have together and how comfortable they are together. ☺️
timeline
I’m a wedding photographer and I just wanted to say I recently had a wedding where someone used “The Orange” as one of their ceremony readings and it was just beautiful. I’m so happy it was included here for everyone to hear
I love how it's a more realistic version of cottagecore that you portrayed/experienced, life in the rural countryside is so much more than wearing floral prints and picnics which the online movement seems to focus on. As a so-called 'country bumpkin' I live like this daily, and I wish more people would realise how cottagecore isn't just a photo opportunity and a chance to brag on social media, but an entire culture in itself. Though you pointed to the fact that there is an element of privilege to countryside living (: 'not everyone can just go and frolic in the fields, we have to work,') but us countryside folk have to work too, and often we live in the countryside because we can't afford to live in the cities. Growing your own food and foraging can be seen as a privilege but to many of us it is still work, regardless of the 'aesthetic' value, and it is hard work to maintain a garden but it's more economical and sustainable growing your own as opposed to travelling to the nearest town or city to find a supermarket. It's a matter of perspective; the grass is always greener until you see how much you have to water it.
Wow, that last line is beautiful!
I like your appreciation, but I can speak for myself that in my country, which is not from the first world. It’s so much harder here, farmers and people from the countryside don’t earn enough to buy a simple potatoe, a pound of rice, and some can’t even go to school… there is no internet there, sometimes even water is missing. So you still have a huge privilege, even if it’s not the most.
@PrinceKM°•° I think it's more that the word often gets misused, and those who think that others are privileged often don't fully contemplate the situations other people are in. The 'privilege' of living close to fields doesn't counteract the fact that some people can't afford to buy food from a supermarket, and those who take offence or 'see it as an insult' as you said, are often more upset at the fact that they are not being understood, that their hardships are being brushed over and suppressed. Yes, I'm privileged to live near fields, but 'privilege' doesn't mean 'perfect'. I still can't afford to buy fucking tomatoes unless I grow my own.
Never thought of it like that, thank you!
Very well said
This actually reminded me of when I rewatched ‘ponyo’ by studio ghibli and was puzzled the entire time thinking about why it wasn’t as good as the first time I watched it. As the end approached I started to criticize the story line and scoff at the dialogue, it was then I realized that it wasn’t the movie that had lost it’s magic, it was I who had lost my ability to believe in it. I couldn’t stop my tears at realizing that the wonder in me had started to shrivel as I was growing up, I still can’t watch the other movies in fear that I have forgotten the magic of childhood and will no longer be able to love the movies like I once did. It hurts to grow up. This vlog was so beautiful, there’s just something about stripping life down to the small things that makes my heart wrench. Love you Jack
As an American in my fourth year at St Andrews, the magic of Scotland has still not worn off. This place is so beautiful.
I tell so many americans this. So many only go on cruises and the world is so much more gorgeous and waiting to be discovered and broaden their horizons
Thank you....not that I made it.
i want to do a study abroad module at Edinburgh!
I must say you are both lucky to have one another as friends doing this dreamy solitary cottage vibes for book nerds. So wholesome :)
As I was watching this video, my mum said in between that she has never seen Jack laugh like this. I asked her what do you mean he's always smiling and laughing in his videos. My mum said that she has never seen him laugh so heartily and enjoy himself, which could definitely be felt across the screen. I felt the joy of the simple things even though you were the one experiencing it. One of my favorite videos from you Jack!
the vibes of this video are immaculate
Like that tub
Ike
I was going to say something similar but Zoe made it here first so..
oh yes
This vlog was like a hug for my brain. Been dying to do a get away like this for some time now❤️ glad you both enjoyed it!
Dakota sleeping in the back while you talk at 7:01 is so cozy and wholesome
I watched this video when it came out and it first introduced me to Dakota. Since then I've watched every one of her videos since. I think about this video so often and I've watched it so many times. I would love for a friendship like this.
your connection with Dakota feels so heartwarming to watch. This video was so beautiful ❤️
it's a full circle moment when a booktuber makes a travel/aesthetic vlog and then turns on the radio and they are talking about books. found it fascinating and oddly satisfying:D this video was so peaceful to watch and to listen to❤
im cryinf because the way strawberry blonde started playing and he showed dakota in the video...... 'all i need darling is a life in your shape, i picture it soft and i ache, look at u strawberry blonde'.. u cannot convince me he didnt do that on purpose
I really appreciate the conclusion to this video where you share ideas as to how we can all easily include some cottage core-ness into our daily lives without having to splash out on a trip, or move country, or live a completely different life
you don‘t know how much i simply NEED to experience this
I love watching the seemlessness of your friendship. You two seem very similarly interested in the same small things. Very fortunate, you two are.❤
the way this has just become my favourite video on the Internet! why did I never watch it before? it positively changed my life, thank you
i felt enchanted while watching this, its so well made!! maybe one of my favorite youtube videos ive ever watched
This was magical! Man, I want to go here so badly. So so peaceful and I’m sure you feel creatively recharged.
this video is soooo pure and refreshing, i never wanted it to end
Jack, I would love it if you did a recommendations video for adults who loved Enid Blyton/Anne of Green Gables as kids but now feel like they haven't had a moment's rest for a decade. I'm craving some escapist comforting literature for my anxious uneasy soul.
This video is incredible, you really are a class apart in the youtube space. Lots of love.
It's a bit obscure but the book Greenwillow by BJ Chute is lovely. I also recommend Letters to a Young Poet by Rilke, At Home in Mitford by Jan Karon, the Secret Garden by Frances Burnett, and The Scent of Water by Elizabeth Goudge (this one is somewhat religious but it deals with the idea of a souls renewal and coming into a greater sense of peace and it was life-changing for me). I hope you find rest, comfort, peace and whatever else you're looking for.
I really recommend giving Darling Desi’s videos a go! For books I really recommend James Herriot, E. F Benson, Elizabeth Von Armin, Janice Hadlow, Elizabeth Gaskell, The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches, Legends & Lattes, Agatha Christie, Before the Coffee Gets Cold, Roger Deakin, Miranda Hart, Gerald Durrell, Robin Hobb, P.G Wodehouse, The Hobbit, Jane Austen, Miss Read, Braiding Sweetgrass, I Capture the Castle, Nevermoore, Rick Riordan, this woven kingdom, the girl who fell beneath the sea, Howl’s Moving Castle and E. M. Delafield are all books or authors I’d recommend from a range of genres that I think are cozy, cottagecore vibes :)
I recommend The Blue Castle by the same author who wrote Anne of Green Gables. It’s so whimsical, real and fun. Our protagonist is 29 and she reinvents herself and builds a life free from her toxic family. It’s so beautifully written and so underrated
I recommend little women by Louisa May Alcott!
I will be visiting Scotland - my mum and dad's birthland - from Canada, in a month. I saw the title of this video and thought, yeah, show me slow living in Scotland while I do a slow craft - crocheting. Thanks for the beautiful accompaniment to my version of slow making. I am even more excited to explore the Highlands in a month!
People are dying to read books in this place, I'm dying to go there for a few days to *write*. I imagine it being magical and giving birth to the most tender and intimate scenes of my book.
cooking with your friends or a friend cooking for you or cooking for a friend, just cooking and friends is so magical.
It’s indeed about peace and contentment. I love this!!!
i found myself smiling during the all video. vibes so confy and good, thank you, jack
This video was pure joy! It’s made me want to go to Scotland ASAP. Please make more vlog style videos like this in future
Ironically started automatically playing this video in double speed…maybe I should try this slow living thing 😅
Too relatable… this anxious mess has never been relaxed in her life, ever 😅
omg I always do this too!
@@jack_edwards good to know I’m not alone 💀
My brain honestly needs to learn how to chill out 💀
@@jack_edwards no reply regarding channel memberships?
just listening to you and dakota talking and laughing makes me so happy. makes me feel like I'm among friends :)
Taking time to appreciate whats around is always a needed reminder, this was so heartwarming to watch ♡
Je trouve que la vidéo est incroyable, les paysages, les lever et coucher de soleil ⛅, les livres 📖, les adresses que tu nous as partagé et même l'expérience en elle-même. J'espère que tu as pu te ressourcer et profiter de ce moment 😊
at 11:44 they both look like an old couple who have been married for 60 years discussing the daily tea from their neighborhood. OH MAH GWAD THE VIBES
This was the coziest video ever, I lovvvvvveed it, the cinematography the shots, both of you are so loveable and enjoyable to watch! Wishing you the best :)
You have inspired me to take a friend on a reading retreat. What fun!
The Banshees of Inisherin vibes are STRONG and I'm here for it
JACK STOP BEING SO ADORABLE i literally teared up on apple crab how cute is that
build your house around my body is a stunning book title indeed
you should read the other anne books! watching her grow up is so lovely, my favourites are the third, where she goes to university, and the fifth, where she gets married and moves to the sea. they're so cosy and full of absolutely lovely and delightful but so very real characters
I can't stop rewatching this video, it's so beautiful, the coziness, the vibes, everything.. I just love it so much
Such a wholesome video. I appreciate the time and effort involved, and I love that you are promoting taking a break and unwinding in nature without technology. Life can go so fast and be so busy that we don’t have time to sit back and get back to basics. Best Wishes to you
Wendy cope is my fav poet. She just knows exactly how to use language to fulfil bliss, wit, charm, sass and love
Such a beautiful video. Lots of me wishing I were there. No phones, lots of nature, really good food, and piles of books. Plus wine and a nice companion. Who needs more!
The scene with you and Dakota listening to the radio gave Harry Potter Deathly Hallows vibes in the best way.
I swear that the top comments were all about the membership situation just a moment ago and now they're gone, please instead of deleting comments that give you bad rep just address the issue, for your own good!
Bro he literally has addressed it not even 2 hours ago
And pretty sure some people can resend(aka delete their own comments) 💀
Assuming things will just make this even more messy than my shelves 😭
I hope this doesn’t come off rude even though it’s blunt.
Just noticed as well. There were a BUNCH of really popular ones
@@LawOfSlay where did he address it? Not on UA-cam, Instagram or Twitter from what I can see
@@radiancewithjasmin that's not very cool considering members who have stopped the subsciption already 😅
@@radiancewithjasmin daaaamn. Are you still a member by chance? What did he say?
I just moved back to the States from Edinburgh after finishing my masters in Creative Writing there and this vlog makes me miss Edi and Scotland so much 😭 (especially old town and all the amazing book shops, I spent countless hours in those shops). I hope you had a wonderful time. This is a lovely video as always ❤️
Jack, I've been watching you for years and am an aspiring Oxford PPE but more importantly just love books. This video made my day and I loved getting to meet your friend Dakota...as Anne of Green Gables (my favorite book and my namesake) says she seems a kindred spirit.
I come back to watch this video every now and then. Its so beautiful 😩
I keep coming back to this video, it's such a comfort for me 😌🫶
the synchronized smelling the books is top tier ✨
I’d say try not to fall in love with her, but you already chose strawberry blond as the soundtrack of your time together
The vibes, the shots, the cinematography, the humour. This video is the best you've ever done
them smelling books and deciding which one smelt better at 2:44?? I FELT THAT
okay but can we talk about how immaculate this video’s soundtrack is??? ✨
Fun word of the day! Apricity: the warmth of the sun in winter.
There + Folklore and Evermore Album + Books = Heaven for me 😭✋🏻🤍
Bro did you literally use my playlist??? Such good song choices!!
This is the most beautifully done video I’ve seen. Ever. Jack’s filmography is astonishing and it made me want to be there with you while also feeling like I am in the cottage with you, watching you.
Well Done man , amazing work
I must agree with all the other comments, this video was absolutely fantastic! Everything about it was just whimsical and magical. You had me nonstop smiling for half an hour
Jack, have you done a videography course? Cause this video was perfection.
frrr
this is like a pick-up line for the video
Just hung out with dakota
watch dakota's !!
he is friends with Ashley of best dressed
this was just so so gorgeous and calming, i absolutely loved watching this!!
the bath book haul was iconic, and dakota is so adorable
Telling my kids this was Normal People
while i was watching the video I felt such a calm and wholesome vibe as if i was living vicariously through you. This is my new confort video i swear, such a great job 🌻🍄💐✨
I really really loved this video. A kind of attainable thing you can do if you're a city dweller, is take one day a week to go screenless and explore something new in your area. I know loads of locals in my little town that have lived here forever and still haven't explored all there is to offer. Immerse yourselves in the community! Be curious and adventurous and just exist away from the noise. I wholeheartedly believe everyone could benefit.
the SECOND I heard the first notes of "Like Real People Do", I knew this would be an amazing video
As a creative, writer, and reader myself, I would absolutely LOVE to do this! 🤩 I think that we all definitely take the simple things in life for granted, and this video is such a perfect display of romanticising the beauty in said simple tasks. Gorgeous gorgeous video Jack; the vibes of this video are immaculate. ❤
The opening with Like Real People Do in the background took my heart, I love it
Starting off the video with Hozier in the background… I could not agree more 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Cute video 🌱 I don't care how platonic they are trying to make that bathtub seem.. If they aren't together, I'll eat my hat! Their chemistry is radiating from the screen.
I know omg! That moment at 14:27 her heart skipped a beat when he said that title
Lovely video! But have to mention that the Fringe is so much more than just a comedy festival! It's the biggest arts festival in the world and includes dance, theatre, poetry, basically all forms of creative performance.
this is now my go-to comfort video
This might be the most beautiful thing I've ever watched
This video has serious Jo and Laurie vibes - love it!!
I'm on 11:02, but have to say now this is so wholesome, touching and heartwarming
guardswell was so thoughtful ! this is my dream home honestly. i wish i could live like this one day
Your laugh is so infectious that one laughs and both break out into a pearl of laughter. But, you’ve got lots of good reads to bring you down to earth - or not. I’m going to look into reading HEX & Secret Garden. Thx!
Hex is the best book I’ve read in a long time. Mentioning recent events and the parallels with the past - that’s what got me. It’s all so relevant.
I went to Edinburgh 9 years ago on a school trip where they took us to a castle and on the tour of the witch trials. It was so interesting. We also went to the Edinburgh Dungeons which will always be in my memory. I also went to Dundee in 2020 (pre-covid) to look at the university there, I didn't choose that uni but I often think back and think about how different my life would have been if I did go, I would love to go back there to actually have a look at the city rather than the institution.
Happy birthday, Jack! 🤗🍁📚
The energy you both have on film together is gorgeous. Such a lovely comforting video to watch❤ True escapism
Vibes are so immaculate here omg
When jack uploads a new video my heart makes a little jump of excitement
I'm Scottish living in Brussels and this made me hella homesick!!!
This is my first time coming up with your video and absolutely, undeniably I'm in love with you guys, you both are just so adorable ❤ keep making more, lots of love and support ❤❤
this video weirdly made me cry. so beautiful
You both have such beautiful laughs 😫☺️
Jack is living the life I have always dreamed of, and being in Scotland 🖤 I want to go so badlyy
This video was an absolute joy to watch. I couldn't stop smiling throughout. Thank you so much for this wholesome, heart warming content Jack.
I think this is my favorite video of yours. I loved every moment of it!
I just went to scotland for the first time and by golly do i miss it. part of me wants to make the move out there because i loved it so much! and the countryside is just gorgeous!
The Anne of Green Gables miniseries (two parts) from 1985 was shot in Prince Edward Island and it's wonderful. It's more like cosy period drama vibes. You'll cry.
My favorite ever, I’ve always wanted to go to PEI after watching it. 🥰😊
@@aliciaharris18 my dad's family is from there, it looks exactly like that in person - well, when it's not winter lol
This was such an eye treat, I watched the entire video with a smile on my face and hygge in my heart. Thank you so much for sharing this with us Jack💗😭
new comfort video
The Wendy Cope poem at the beginning of this video was beautiful.
love love love the long videos! so sweet the two of you reading poetry together in such a beautiful space
Thank-you, Jack. I thoroughly enjoyed sharing your cottage get-away. This is a video I would return to over and over again: you made it so easy to immerse myself into the setting and the feel of the place. Also, it was a delight to spend a half-hour with you and Dakota. Please take us back to Scotland sometime soon 😊
