In1989 in a remote town in the west of Ireland, after some issues with crime, I was introduced to the Stones Roses debut alum via a cassette tape in a random car. wow.. They changed my life. Ian Brown saved my life. Legend 😎
Love it Dublin here. I remember what I was wearing on the Sunday I first played I wana be adored. I was 17 and brought a then girlfriend to the long gone dollymount house for drinks.
The respect I have for this fella is unbelievable. Got FEAR lyrics on my arm. The music 🎶 he's produced & made is just God like 🤗 That guitar 🎸 in waterfall ... plus many others. Bosh!! IB played in brighton, see him twice.
Amidst a sea of Kylie and Jason, Sonja and Rick Astley, I awoke one Saturday morning and turned on the Chart Show. Then I was hit three times. The Lightning Seeds with Pure, The Happy Monday with Step On... and then The Stone Roses came on with Sally Cinnamon. I got out of my bed and went down town to buy all three. Music was back. Musicianship was back. Stock Aitkin and Waterman could fuck right off. It was heaven
What a genuinely nice guy. Watching Ian's manners versus the Gallaghers 'full-of-themselves-ness" is a stark contrast. Oasis was obviously more successful, but Ian Brown has come through the strife of the music industry as a "Sound" Person overall. Father of 3 and still there for his family. I wish him much success and hope life is kind to his family. Bravo Ian, you put up with more Bull$hit then most bands on the verge of stardom....The stone roses struggle reminds me of the Verves legal issues on "Bitter Sweet.." Maybe not having ultra millions helps you be REAL instead of a complete horses Arse like most "Super Pop Stars! ("Airplane incident? Who cares Airlines are idiots and security screening is a fat pain in the butt!!!)
Met Ian outside a cancelled Roses gig in 89. The LP had only been out a few days/weeks. My mate and I chatted to Ian for several minutes. I can confirm he is a bright, charming and lovely man. A real legend is Ian. RIP Tony Wilson too... did so much for music.
I hope that by the time I am his age (not far behind) I will have found as much content and happiness. Well done Ian. You worked hard to get where you are.
3:45 / 23:57 Re the Mancunian twang in the songs, I absolutely love hearing his accent in the songs, it sounds so good make its more authentic Brown, the Manc accent has so much character...shouldn't be hidden. The way he says 'Reality' in F.E.A.R is perfect :)
Something's been bothering me lately, watching this, especially the bit about the Pistols, got me thinking about it again. What happened to 'youth subcultures'? I think the last one I can think of was that whole Britpop: Blur/Oasis thing in the 90's, it wasn't really massively influential and a bit of a throwback to other styles really. I can't think of a big one since. Is it 'cos I'm an old bugger now and they're still out there, but I don't notice them, or have they disappeared? Back as far as the 50's, there was Rock 'n' Roll, then Beatlemania, Hippies, Punk/Skins, Casuals [more about clothes and fighting at the football than music, sort of morphed into Acid House a bit with the Mondays/Roses being Scallies] etc, then the whole Rave explosion of the late 80's, but since then, nothing major that I can really identify? Kids are missing out! I don't really like it that my 13 year old likes a lot of the same music as me. I want to be mystified at what he's listening to/wearing and tell him to 'turn that bloody racket down'/'what the bloody hell are you wearing?' like my dad did with me when I was playing New Order in my bedroom/wearing dungarees for the Hac. I didn't borrow my dad's Chuck Berry & Bill Haley records like my kid does with a lot of my old 12" records [he's particularly into my old Shamen tunes at the minute for some reason]. It's the same with clothes, he's wearing Adidas Gazelle's like I did when I was his age, it's not right, kids should be rebelling! This sort of stuff worries me, it's all gone terribly wrong somewhere.
You're right mate, Simon Cowell has moved the goal post's and the digital age has changed things for the music industry, but young people should be kicking and screaming to forge their new culture as they come into adulthood.....like we did, even if it's just a new take on something that's gone before!.....
It's because "youth" today aren't really interested that much in music. It's all X-box and playstations and facebook. No fucker goes out of the house anymore
SteveResin You could have a point there, once upon a time they sat in the're bedrooms listening to music and the world was happening outside. Now the worlds invited in.!!!!...

No one can really say who is best because we all like different music for different reasons....I like the stone Rose's but I believe in any argument you can say oasis were better.
Roses were like real poets. Noel was more cynical and direct. Noel made music to be big.. which is an art. Roses just made art with no aim to impress. Which is admirable. But they both made amazing music so who cares? Neither are bad.
Agreed- he's definitely sexy as hell. It's like one part Davy Jones, and the other part is all him. He shows this kind of genuine confidence. Like he knows that he's an amazing musician, and he's totally comfortable with it. That really contributes to his attractiveness. :)
He is supposed to be very god to his fans, too. I think he probably gets recognized every where he goes over there. Much different in the states. So cute ;)

@Patrick Kiely It is amazing. I know people were underwhelmed at the time (I was a little boy then and didn't know or care); they heavily underrated it, in my opinion. It wasn't exactly what they expected or something. It is still brilliant on its own terms and one of my favourite albums of all-time anyway. What a fucking record, seriously.

@@chrs1968 Ian is wide awake in a world full of asleep people. That’s why he is special and why his songs are spot on.

Who? Tony or Ian? 😊
From my point he sings with great vision. Stylish and hypnotic to me. To be out pushing and playing what you believe in that’s fantastic.
Ian Brown is un increible maestro, genio !.
The Music of the Spheres is my favorite I think. Just brilliant.
Legend who will be a legend for his entire life.

His solo stuff is really good aswell. Corpses in her mouth is another favourite of mine. And F.E.A.R. is very smart lyrics. 🙏
Thanks mum for giving birth to me in the early 70's so i lived the madchester scene

Proper songs,proper melodies, proper lyrics"
Take note lazy musicians of today
There are still those proper songs, proper melodies and proper lyrics. Just not in the mainstream.
Ian Brown has changed the source ofy outlook on music aswel as life
When they're in front of the fire 🔥, the burning wood pops twice in a way very similar to the popping sound at the beginning of Fools Gold 🪙 19:14
ian used to come into HMV bayswater all the time, very normal and friendly and not pretentious, lovely guy

Stone Roses, best band ever!

Stone roses are the blue print that oasis followed..
Oasis never had the musical nous that the Roses had. They might have been more popular but musically they were nothing compared to the Roses.

I wish the Roses would've properly done something over here in the States. I have no doubt that they would've changed the music was done over here.
DevoutlyAgnostic Takes a lot of touring to properly 'break' the states and I doubt whether they've ever had the stomach for prolonged periods of gigs.
***** It's the prolonged periods of drugs that would have been the problem .....
+Willie Callender America is a big place n the Roses may have stolen a portion but not changed American music are you insane?
