Tony, we all love ya man! You played on the greatest debut album of all time, and played well! Nobody can take that away from you.
Drop the debut
Mad respect for Tony , and such a humble gentleman 🙌🏻

Spot on mate
If anyone can ever get an interview with Guigsy that would be a huge accomplishment😂
Is there bud
Not while the cricket is on mate.
Haha he's happy isn't he
The way Guigsy is supposed to have treated TM makes him sound like a bit of a prick anyway.
Dude I decided to drunkenly message Tony one night on Facebook I sent a whole paragraph to him about how much I appreciate his destroyer drums and he sent me a while paragraph right back such a genuine guy it was so cool to a tally talk to a member of oasis
Noel said in an interview recently (and no doubt on other occasions) how Definitely Maybe was the best, most complete Oasis Album. Tony by extension is no small part of why. I love Alan Whites drumming, but his later ghost snare & kick embellishments etc when covering the groups earlier tunes always grated with me. Those that know know, and Tony will forever be tied to the best era of that band. Wish him all the best, he inspired more drummers than he'll ever know.
i'd agree with that. there is nothing Whitey did post Tony that was particularly hard to play...maybe a bit more intricate, but not unattainable. And actually, Whiteys style was perhaps a little samey after a while. eg lots of that beat loosely based on the baggy sound. Ringo was never the best technical drummer...but its what he came up with that counts, the originality. i get that Tony's stuff was relatively basic, but this is what fitted the songs the best. Nobody wants extravagant fills and rolls in songs anyway (except maybe other drummers 🙂 )
@@markd7013 😅😅😅😅😅 You’re funny
Absolutely brilliantly stated. Spot on.
So glad to see I’m not the only one who felt that way about Whitey. I loved him in the Morning Glory era but grew to despise his drumming by the end. Very samey to the point that you knew what the fills would be before you heard them. I’m probably one of the very few people out there that were actually relieved when he got sacked.
Tony’s drumming was awesome in DM, even if feels sloppier than White’s, which I find rather boring tbh. Minimalistic but with a punkish edge sadly lost afterwards. And lots of iconic drum riffs on that debut. It wouldn’t be the same without Tony’s drum sound, that’s for sure. A great lad too
As a 15yr old Oasis came along at the right time, changed my life from the clothes I wore to walking round thinking I owned the place. Great interview from a great guy about the best band of my generation. All of you are legends in my eyes. Thankyou Tony Rock n Roll Star.
There would be no Oasis without Tony McCarroll. All the best mate 🥁 🎶
His beat on Supersonic was the first thing I heard by Oasis
@Lee Jones
Precisely. Without Tony oasis would have never been.
Just hearing about 5 guys against the world, before all the fame and bullshit, is a beautiful thing. If you've been in a band, whether you made it or not, you know that feeling. There's nothing else like it
The drummer on one the best albums of all time. Cheers Tony. 👍💯
Well done Brian, first time I’ve ever seen tony give an interview, he conducted himself well and with dignity, it’s a shame what happened to him but at least he looks back with pride at been in one the best British bands of their generation.
Tony's book is very good
@@michaelgill1203
I’ll need to get a copy of Tony’s book. I did heard it was a good read.
@@happybee7725 James Hargreaves Guitar refers to it a lot when building his documentaries, which are very enjoyable.
@@GT380man James Hargreaves defended Tom Meighan which should finish him on UA-cam
@@xyzxyz997 🤣🤣🤣..i bet you've a Ukraine flag in your fb profile
From what I can gather, Tony McCarroll is a smashing bloke.
What I know is that he was a smashing drummer, totemic to the rhythm section on an album and two singles that framed a wonderful time. It was so pure and exciting. It sounded amazing.
What I also know is that he was subject to manipulation and bastardry at the whim of another human, and he was harmed, and his trajectory in life was taken from his control. It’s a credit to his strength and integrity that he is as affable and kind as he is.
Fair play Tony. Thank you for enriching us - we remember it yeah. Cheers.
What do you mean by manipulation and bastardry?
@@jamesmason1347 i DON'T THINK HE KNOWS FFS
As a founding member of Oasis, Tony will always be a legend 🙌
He drummed on one of the biggest definitive debut albums of all time. As a drummer, he made those songs sound great . Humble man, who’s left a legacy he should be proud of. He’s OASIS full stop
Huge Oasis fan here - changed my life. It wasn’t right what happened to you Tony. I hope you got a right few quid out of it at least. Thanks for the great times Tony and all the very best to you mate.
There is no doubt that the drumming is raw and aggressive on DM. There after the drumming (and Bass), never caught that feeling again. Awesome time!
Tony was the drummer that inspired me to join a band and learn to play the drums after repeatedly listening to Definitely Maybe. I remember speaking to Nigel Clark (Dodgy) in 2017 after we’d opened for them at a gig; he was incredibly friendly and asked me who some of my favourite drummers were and I mentioned Tony as probably the main influence for me. He brought up the gig mentioned where oasis supported Dodgy and said he always thought Tony was a good drummer and respected that Tony was the drummer I picked as one of my favourite. Terrific video!
As a drummer myself, and also an Oasis fan, I’ve genuinely never understood all the hate around Tony. Never. So good to hear an interview with him. Thank you Brian and Tony.
The way I heard it, Noel & Tony grated on one another occasionally & Noel was the Guvnor, so that was that. I wonder if Tony found Noel & Owen aggressive in the studio & doing tracks again & again, alone, without the band to bounce off just didn’t suit his personality? It wouldn’t be that surprising. Such a different vibe, a studio, I guess?
Alan White was a trained drummer tony wasn't,
@@GT380man I reckon NG's got one of them unexplainable mean streaks. I think we all knew someone like him when we were growing up. Could be great, but could be a proper shite at times too! Haaa
I couldn’t agree more with this comment.
Tony stood up to Noel and Noel didn't like it. Plus look online to see what Owen Morris said about Tony's drumming. He said it wasn't the best, but his timing was perfect.
Lots of love for Tony. A legend.
Thanks Tony. You all made something very special to many people. Good that you don't look back in anger....
"He wasnt a Liam Gallagher, then again... who is" 😎🎤🎸
Absolutely superb and honest interview, founding member of Oasis and that can't be taken away from you Tony by anyone .... Legend.
Hands down this is the best Oasis interview/informal chat/documentary or whatever you’d like to call it - ever.
Well done to all involved, simply brilliant.
Cheers Robert!
No one hit the oasis drums harder than Tony. His tone and intensity on songs like supersonic and bring it on down was never replicated by Alan White.
Would love to hear Tony play with Liam again.
Chris Sharrock stayed largely faithful to the album versions though, the only Oasis drummer post-Tony to do so. While that swingy-quarter note pulse thing became the Oasis "feel" from Morning Glory on, I'm surprised Chris was the only one to inject the straight 8ths feel back into the DM songs, live. Then again, if what Liam said is true for all the replacements, they wanted them to do what they do and don't feel you need to copy your predecessor(s).
@@Robinjupton
yeah wouldn’t that be awesome. Get Tony to play drums at his gigs as a massive two fingers to Noel😂
That’s the first interview I’ve ever heard from Tony, what a genuinely nice man he is. Great interview btw. 👍
Met Tony in a Bar in Glasgow couple of years ago. He is an absolute gentleman and very humble. Total Geezer..
I’ve always loved Tony’s drumming, such a huge chunk of the sound on that first record and across the b sides. Look at the drum intros from the DM era - Supersonic, Live Forever, Cloudburst, Listen Up, all iconic parts of these amazing songs. Tony seems like a great guy too, ace video Brian - looking forward to the next one.
Tony’s life must be good he doesn’t seem to resent the past just comes across as a truthful gentleman
Great interview! Tony comes off as an articulate and likeable guy, best to him.
You’re an amazing part of the Oasis story Tony. Those beginning years are what made Oasis for me. You and Brian being able to flesh out your perspectives is just awesome.
What a lovely bloke
Reading his book at the min, seems so genuine and down to earth. Such an amazing drummer and definitely gave oasis its edge musically. Love his grit and determination to get through those times and he is a better man than me is the least I can say. Love and light to him ❤
Great interview. Tony comes across as not bitter and with lots of dignity. Top man.
Tonys book is a must read for any oasis fan.
Gives a good insight into the early years.
Quality interview. Respect. He was an integral part of the band: the band beginning. There are two key moments in any band's life: how they began and how they ended. That first album would've been crap without him. The sales numbers proved that. Thank you both for the telling of history.
✌️❤
Thank you so much Tony, your drumms are still being listened to around the world (greetings from Chile)
Amazing interview. Great to see Tony enjoying this too. Love the Live Forever version at Gleneagles, best for me
Tony was a average drummer back then but the point is thay where a team and thay done him over thay should ov stuck together that interview got me for tony
His contribution to their sound and identity is so underrated/appreciated.
Thank you Tony. You're an indispensable part of the best album by the best band in the world. Respect.
Tony is the reason I learned to play the drums at 15. Very basic player but PERFECT for Oasis in the early days
that first album was so damn good. One of the best records on the 90s. I always thought he was the best drummer for Oasis. They were better when they were more punk and harder.
My thoughts exactly
Definitely Maybe had way more guts than Morning Glory . Def Maybe album is the biz 💯
Great comments. I agree with every single one in this thread.
What a great bloke. Really glad I watched this. He's right, they were never the same again. I watched Oasis at Irvine beach....one of the best gigs ever. I also went to Knebworth & Maine Road which were poor in comparison. Thanks for the memories Tony!
A nice groove on the drums from Tony Mc. Played on Oasis' best album. Top man.
Met Tony & his mate Gav 'Jonesy' just after he left Oasis and all that - did a gig with him in Night & Day once or twice there ... all i remember in those times Tony was a lovely unassuming fella & can see he aint lost that, he's the original Oasis for sure - the bands true sound & soul came from the real life people who founded it & expressed it... keep going for it Tony!
Many, many thanks Brian and Tony!
Brilliant interview Brian mate!! Great company is microdot you must be very proud pal that you were apart of oasis greatest years and your fantastic album sleeves are so iconic 👌👍👍
Tony, you played on the best Oasis album. An absolutely seminal work that went on to influence so many of us spotty teenagers in our bedrooms. Fond memories! I guess what I’m trying to say, is thank you.
That was terrific. Lovely hearing the story from Tony’s perspective. Fascinating. Thanks so much for making this video.
Brilliant interview always loved Tony's drumming wish he could have ridden it a bit longer. Glad to see he's well!
Definitely Maybe was life changing for me, I still listen to that albumn at least once a week. Thank you Tony. :-)
Really good interview - thanks for doing this Microdot - i love your Mancinterview technique
Great little interview this Brian, Nice one mate!
Lovely interview! Really enjoyed reading Tony's book, too! Always a real treat to learn more about the formation of Oasis and the early days. The thumbnail with Liam and Tony is so cute!
Great to meet you in Drogheda a few years back Tony. Really enjoyed listening to your stories.
Great interview, Tony is absolutely class! Right proper job, thank you very much for this video!
Massive respect for both of you! Legends!
Really great interview, such a humble guy Tony is. Love your videos Brian and like many went straight to the Scottish gig they did for Sony before it went bananas. Incredible gig and footage...
There will always be love and respect for Tony! ♡♡
Thanks Tony, really enjoyed your stories about a band that was a magical part of my teenage years.
I remember meeting Tony a few years back when he did a talk at Venue in Manchester, he was an utter gent and It was great to finally meet one of my favourite drummers. I remember first starting to learn the drums, sat at the kit, listening to Columbia, and frustratingly trying to play that groove - two sticks on the hi-hat, alternating between the snare and opening the hi-hats.
That was a great in depth and down to earth chat. Cheers lads.
Brilliant Brian!!! Really really great!! ❤ Tony, you’re a geezer! Mad respect to ya!! ✌🏽
Nice bloke. His book is the best oasis book too. Loved his drumming. If oasis ever did another gig everyone would want to see Tony on drums again.
Fantastic interview, really enjoyed it, great insight from Tony's perspective.
I had just finished his book and it was class. Always had a soft spot for Tony.
Enjoyed that, thank you 😊👍
Thanks Tony! Much respect.
You're an absolute Legend Tony!! thank you !!!!!!
Wasn’t really to sure what to expect from this interview but wow did it show not only Oasis but Tony himself in a different light. You see the success that they’ve gone post Tony but you do forget the impacts that has on one’s life. Class watch, will be sharing
Thank you for this! Still love Tony! ❤
Damn. This is legendary. Thanks Brian!
Always respect to you Tony! At the end of the day it becomes night and then it's day again. All the best matey
Fantastic interview, Brian you are a natural, it was extremely insightful. Tony - thank you for your honesty, and even though most oasis fans believe you were treated poorly and unfairly you came across in this interview so humbled and certainly are not looking back in anger!
I grew in Levenshulme and used to play footy on that 5-a-side pitch with older lads who used to call me Tweety Pie coz of my big head. I know it was them because even though I moved from the area my mates didn't and told me since it was Oasis! Anyway, one of them booted the ball in my face by accident once and made my nose bleed. 100% it was Noel 🤣.
Great watch and hat's off always a pleasure
Great interview. I love these ones that are real and honest!
Its the first time I’ve seen Tony give an interview. What a nice fella. I enjoyed this interview so much. It wasn’t long enough. I could of listened to him for a lot longer. 😊
Excellent interview Brian really insightful and interesting, brilliant interviewing skills as well. A new career beckons
I would have loved it if Liam had brought Tony out at Knebworth for a few Definitely Maybe numbers saying he missed the first Knebworth.
Amazing interview..Tony an absolute gentleman and was hard done by I honestly think..He would have definitely done them other albums..Great Interview Brian mate love your Channel 👍👍👍
Great interview, love to hear Tony. Read his book and loved it. Our Tony fkn knows it
Great interview. "Live Forever" comes to mind. God bless Tony.
Superb interview, a fan just like the rest of us. 🤟
Amazing interview, loving this.
Great questions.
brilliant interview, well played Tony
What a top bloke Tony is by the way. Great interview
Been waiting all week for this cmon
Thanks from Canada lads.
All the best to Tony, read his book years ago, he seems a really honest and down to earth guy. In the 90s I had the vhs tape of the Southend gig which is awesome. His drumming there is great.
Nice interview Brian! Hope you can do the same with Bonehead and If I can dream Guigsy too. Greetings from Buenos Aires, Argentina.
What a gent 👏🏻 met Tony after the royal court gig in Liverpool December 94. Was a really nice genuine fella back then too 😊
Oasis-Acquiesce/ Good to be free / Talk Tonight / Paul Weller’s Changing man ( The White Rooms 1995 ). There’s the band right there, Tony’s brilliant crisp playing with passion no mistake. Was just listening to this the other night thinking the drumming’s the heartbeat here. 🥁
I remember an interview with Mani, which applies here and he was telling a story about the bass player from The Arctic Monkeys who was kicked out after their debut and he was saying "don't ever look at it as a bad thing. How many people can say they played on the biggest debut album in years". This applies here, Tony should be so fucking proud of himself and everything he/they achieved with him banging those skins.
Yeah man, listening in to Tony’s timing, now I understand it better, the guys mustard. Big respect to such a cool guy, playing on those stages and keeping your timing, shakey business but always a top performer. Great podcast this from 2 legends of the industry ❤️💯
Tony comes across like a great guy. Great chat
Bravo Tony👏you will always be remembered as Oasis's best drummer by millions of us! Great Interview Brian, cheers
Love Tony's vibe. Much needed for Oasis. Have a great life!
As a drummer I can say it’s all about the sound, we can all play ghost notes and double kick fills etc etc but it all depends on what fits the tune, he definitely fit the sound of the first album….true respect
what a nice humble man. good on you
Fantastic interview with a top bloke! Not a hint of bitterness either.l raise my glass to you Tony!
Tony was the best Oasis drummer hands down. He just got it. Seems like a really nice guy and really not bitter even though he should be.
The more I see and hear of Tony, the more respect I have for him. The way he was treated was awful. He was the right drummer for that album, and no one can ever take that away from him. ☺
My mate Phil has been an Oasis super fan since we were kids, so need to get some Tony merch for him!
