    Great update Steve! Like that Cotton Belt unit. I like your idea of an underpass scene. That would make for an interesting photo platform which to photograph your equipment from. also, a place to put some of your vehicle collection.

      Thank you! That Cotton Belt SD45T-2 is probably my favorite Athearn RTR build I have done so far it really came out good! Looks like the bridge scene will be coming out, just need to do a little more planning first.

    Steve, I’m a Chessie modeler from Columbus close to the old Buckeye Yard. These Conrail videos are awesome man!

      Thank you! Wish I could have gotten to see Buckeye when it was in action but unfortunately, I missed those days. I'm a big Chessie fan myself as it was my grandfathers favorite railroad. Even though I have set myself in 97 to 99 era I still have a decent amount of Chessie power around that I can't seem to part with and plan to eventually run on the layout some.

    Howdy Steve! I live here in Ohio as well. My 3 acre farm, such as it is, is in NW Ohio, and we still have my wife's small house in Southern Ohio along the River, so for railfanning I kinda get the best of both worlds. Hilly wooded areas and flat farmland. One thing I really love are the older trestle bridges that are all over Ohio, so my opinion is a little biased! I love the bridges in your layout and if you rebuild that scene, hope you can find someplace else to use them. They add so much character to a layout. That is my 2 cents worth. But what do I know... I have to be nekid to count to 21... so... Nicely done and thanks for the update 🤠

      Thank you! That truly is the best of both worlds! As a truck driver I have been fortunate to be all over the state the last ten years and have gotten to see a lot of neat spots as well. I agree about the bridges as we do have a ton of them here in Ohio but am really leaning towards making a change. Ill have to get creative to find another spot for them on the layout.

      I always have a hard time slowing down and taking a break. It's also a challenge as projects take longer now that my skills have grown and I put more effort into each model. The days of doing multiple projects a weekend are over now and I just have to get used to that fact lol

  • @robertsiebenrock3997

    I like the bridge, but I'd put water and people scenes on there also. You can always put an overpass coming into the yard.

    • @ConrailSteve
      @ConrailSteve  2 місяці тому

      I would love to have the over pass near the yard entrance as well. Unfortunately it would require some serious modification to the benchwork to do and at this point Id rather not mess with that.

    hey steve i was on rrpicarchives a few days ago looking at some old conrail GP7s and i thought about you... was surprised to see some pics of the old predecessor roads still in their old paint but had a "CR" stencil on them... saw a pic of an old EL geep that had the "EL" painted out and a "CR" in it's place... and it was paired with a just painted conrail blue GP... now that looked really cool to see, to see a Erie geep and a conrail blue geep MU'd together

      That sound like a great lash up to build! Someday I would like to model more of the 70's and 80's time frame I just don't have the time and space to do it right now.

    Those Slugs came out awesome!! A city street under the Bridges with some small
    Businesses would be cool, where the old Pennsy mainline
    came into Anderson Indiana it
    crossed a bridge over a pharmacy and Mabels which was a house of ill repute!! 🤣🤣🤣

      @ConrailSteve  2 місяці тому +1

      You really can never have enough feeders......wonder if I could replace the track with feeder wire and never have a dead spot again! lol

    • @Railfan-gp40-2
      @Railfan-gp40-2 2 місяці тому +1

      @@ConrailSteve I ended up with 1 small dead spot on a spur, and just drilled a small hole on the outside of the track between the ties. I then soldered a feeder to the outside of the track in the dead spot. Then I painted over the solder and glued in the hole with some ground cover. You can't even tell it's there now. Don't let it defeat you! Lol

    I hope you keep the bridge scene. I would maybe freshen up the scenery and maybe something different under the bridges. I think the scrap yard there would be to much. There needs to be some non industry areas on a layout.

    • @ConrailSteve
      @ConrailSteve  2 місяці тому

      I'm still on the fence as to what ill do with that scene just yet. Probably going to try and do a track map of the area first to see how anything different might lay out before making any changes. I have been giving a lot of thought to reworking that scene as is as well but haven't found the right inspiration to do so yet.

    hi steve ! i feel your pain when it comes to scenery changes, especially a major scene like your bridge area. i just changed a food processing plant into a chemical plant, which i changed again (ugh !!) into a ev battery recycling facility ( major shredding/chemical processes here !!!) that also recycles ferrous metals as well. like you, i was happy with my first work, but after a while I knew a change was in store.... so imho, do what makes you happy, which our hobby allows us to do as needed/wanted. my entire "plant changing jobs ( all 3) took about 2 months to do but i am really happy with where i am at now !!! could you pass along how you will fix your "buckled" track from weather changes ? btw, i noted you are in ne ohio.... as i am in wny 35 miles directly south of buffalo and 20 minutes from where the bills play, am i correct in assuming you are a browns fan ? they will be real good this year, and that division (afc north) is just about the toughest in the league !!! keep the updates comming, steve !!!

    • @ConrailSteve
      @ConrailSteve  2 місяці тому

      I will defiantly be making a scenery change just in the process now of figuring out how big of a change I want to make. I'll do my best to show what all track repairs I make in new month's video. Still have to diagnose them all to see what will be require to fix them and plan on starting that next week. If I was still a football fan I would be a Browns fan but I don't really follow sports much these days and am more of a baseball guy now but even that I haven't really followed the last few years. Thank you for watching!

      @@ConrailSteve steve, i understand your feeling on sports these days !!! i played 11 years of football in a row, 3 years varsity bb/bs ball and went to bb camp at gannon college (erie, pa) many years and things have changed way too much for me.... contracts/bonuses/don't touch the quarterback ( i was taught , back in my days, to take his head right off but do it cleanly, which can be done with a solid tackle to the gut area !!)/ drugs/players beating up women & children/the rap and hip hop stuff just ain't for me... i am a classic rock-n-roll guy.... i am looking forward to your next video, steve... blessings to you !!!

    oi Charlie,, wasnt that bridge scene where you where dropping a line down to staging ?? Mate if not maybe go with your overpass. I like the scene as is tho,, so i will be quiet now. Looking forward to seeing the slugs in ops mate. good vid =p

    • @ConrailSteve
      @ConrailSteve  2 місяці тому +1

      Thank you! The bridge scene does have tracks only the lower staging level but I could build a foam tunnel around them if needed although I haven't used the lower staging level in the last few years now. Hopefully the slugs should be up and running in 2 to 3 weeks provided I can get my butt in gear and get the done on the weekends.

    hey steve think about redoing the bridge over the summer & redo the sceane over the cold nasty days in nov to feb
    when its too cold outside& your viewers have something to look foward too
    remember rail roads plan these things months maybe yrs in advance
    enjoy the back yard and dont get model rail road burn out

    • @ConrailSteve
      @ConrailSteve  2 місяці тому

      Thank you for the advice! Ill probably spend the next few weeks planning out the redo on the bridge scene and maybe start on it in early July. I will admit I have been fighting off the burnout for the last month or two but now that the slugs are almost done am feeling a little rejuvenated. I also have cut back on the number of projects I am working at once to make things more manageable and easier to accomplish. Ill defiantly ne enjoying the nice weather but will also still be enjoy my time at the work bench as well!

      What is the best paint for wheel rust

    • @ConrailSteve
      @ConrailSteve  2 місяці тому

      For wheels it depends on what rust you are going for. New cars tend to have a brighter orange rust color and older cars have more of a dark brown color. "Burnt Sienna" would be the color I would recommend for the bright orange new wheel style and "Burn Umber" would be the color id recommend for the dark older style brown.

      Thank you! I may do a full cut down shell kitbash build on the MT-4 and MT-6 in the fall when I have more time. As far as the shells from pacific northwest resins go they aren't perfect and do take some clean up but at least for now I think look a lot better than what I could do cutting up and kitbashing a shell together.
