  • This is NOT my video. This is a tape (or rather, a pair of tapes) I found at a flea market about 5 years ago and digitized. The aspect ratio is incorrect, as it should be in 3:4 instead of 16:9. I can't speak on the validity on any information presented and claim no ownership of the material presented.

A great training manual for my Hapkido training in perspective. There is always something to grow and learn from. A continual never-ending process!

LA. Tech University had a tournament where these guys who came from Korea matched up, no Americans would compete, where it'd been futile, the guys were literally a blur. Seen blood fly, no one saw the strike, except one ref said he did. Guys were lightning fast. It was said these were the Grand Master from Korea black belts. Which he was there too. Dr. David Jordan was the instructor at LA. Tech. But no one, Kung fu, Karate or anyone wanted to match these guys.

This is not how this is practiced in classes. These are reminders if you get stuck and forget what the technique is at its core. You generally remember everything that goes along with it.

    No offense intended
Who attacks from 8 feet away ?
    Is this realistic ?
Most street attackers have a go from 12 inches away or less
If the first 10 minutes is completely unrealistic why would I watch anymore ?

this art contains both sparring and kata, from my understanding. Its not 100% robotic like Daito Ryu Aikijujutsu, which does not spar at all.

@Leftystrat it's not bad for very advanced students who know how to fight, you just wanna do very basic stuff for beginners for 1-2 years until they can win 8/10 times. You also want them lifting weights too.

Gracies did expose many faults in traditional martial arts, but Hanmudo at least incorporates sparring.
Look at those classical japanese jujutsu schools. Except few like Kito Ryu, they dont even spar. Considering that Hanmudo is a self defense art, it is actually quite effective compared to other arts in its category, such as Daito Ryu, Takenouchi Ryu, Tenjin Shinyo Ryu all which dont even spar.
