Shhhhhh don’t tell these guys. Real car guys know the 997 Turbo is probably the sweetest spot in the 911 range. Power / smaller size and ofcourse mezgah!!!!!
The 991.1 GTS is the best place to park your $ in. This is the sweet spot of the 911. The performance, look, and reliability combination is impossible to beat. Look for the 2015 and you will have the most reliable car Porsche has made. I have done the research. Porsche mechanics say 2015 is the key year. Cheers!
I agree. 2 years ago I sold my 981 GT4 to buy a one owner 2K mile 991.2 GT3 and I love it. That 4.0L engine combined with the brilliant pdk transmission is magic, and this coming from a life-long manual Porsche guy. I’ve looked a couple of times at a 992 GT3, but the size difference and styling (especially the black plastic nose vs the beautiful 991.2 nose) kept me from making a move. One more thing - I sold my GT4 to a friend and he did the complete transmission re-gearing of the car, and it’s a absolute game changer when you shorten the ridiculously tall gearing on all non-RS GT4’s.
987 R, 997.2 GTS, 981 GTS (Boxster or Cayman but should have PTV, PSE, SC, PASM), 981 GT4, 981 Spyder, 991.1 base, 991.1 GTS, 991.2 GT3 Touring, 991.2 GT3 RS (reality any GT3 or GT3 RS is a fantastic option). Not a lot of love for the turbos, any of them or any of the turbocharged product inc. 992. Also few buy the cars for "tech" they buy for the experience and often the tech is either intrusive, poorly laid up or simply a PITA. 981/982/991 got it about right, likewise for the interiors.
i think 996.2 manual turbo also is a fantastic and underrated option, it has good hp, mezger engine and the design look so well nowday. Maybe a lot of people don't like headlights, but in my opinion it look really cool, look like Venom's eyes or some symbiote or something like that.
I would seek out a 997 GTS, the original. It was a parts bin special and look at how it is now one of the variants of the model range. I feel that car is historically significant.
I’m a 991.2 owner, but I think the 997.2 will be far more collectible and has a higher propensity to hold or increase in value than a 991.1. The 991.1 may be the LAST NA Carrera, but it’s far from the best. The reason 993 values have skyrocketed is because it is the best AND the LAST of the aircooled Carrera. The best NA water cooled Carrera belongs to the 997.2. It has the best size, hydraulic steering, looks the part, and was the last true built Porsche before VAG got their fingers into it. I love the 991.1, but I don’t think it will hold value as well as the 997.2 but it is definitely easier to daily and own.
I went through 718 GTS (2.5 Turbo), 911.2 GTS, 718 GT4, 992 S, and now I have the perfect one for my wants: a 718 GTS 4.0 with a manual. So much fun to drive on the street. 992 Carreras has gotten too plush for my taste.
I have the same but in PDK. Sometimes I second-guess my transmission choice, however crossing 70 mph when shifting into 3rd sounds like something that can't be used anywhere where one must abide by the law.
997s are going up in value in continental Europe, South Africa, Asia and US according to sales numbers. People say it's gradually becoming the most classical, consensual (design wise), reliable, mechanical and still affordable (at the moment) 911. Some prefer gen 1, mostly due to the shape of the gen 2 tail lights and front air intakes.
Boxster/Caymans will come of age, one of those cars that you think will always be around and cheap. Then one day they wont be, quite allot of bad examples will be scrapped, and the good ones will fly.
I’m on my second 981 S Boxster. Asian driver ran a red light totaled my first one. Replacement was one owner Porsche dealer serviced very low mileage car. Has X73 suspension, PSE. I kept factory PCM added Apple Car Play, Focal limited edition speakers, Addison amplifier. Performance is usable. Besides if I want to go fast I own motorcycles. One is a 325hp Suzuki Hayabusa. Zero to 150mph in around 6 seconds if I can keep front tire down. Long live ICE cars.
I wouldn't buy a 992 because they are way over priced in the used market still. Wait for a few more years then 992's can be a decent buy. Get a 991.1 right now as prices has come down a lot. Also 992's are way too big and too easy to drive...you won't have that much fun driving a 992 vs a 997 or 991.1 manual.
Please see below. Not sure your statement is factually correct ? "UK Registrations: 981 Boxster Spyder: As of data available up to 2017, there were 69 registered in the UK. 981 Boxster GTS: The same source indicates 379 registered in the UK."
I have no idea idea what these Guys are talking about. 996 was getting boring. 997 for a GT After that it’s turn on the Nannie’s and take a nap till u hit the track
All these used Porsche ate totally overpriced. Not one has the value they are sold for these days. Twenty years back the price level for used Porsche was still acceptable. 😊😊😊
Thx for the very good content throughout 24, looking forward to 25 content. Personally I’m disappointed in the digital dashes of the modern 911. I’d like to see all 911’s or any least anything wearing a GT badge be fitted with analog dashes. I believe gt4 or gt4 rs are good to go in 25. Good performance and size.
Never driven a manual Porsche but read that so many drivers moan about the long gearing. In that case, surely you change gear a lot less so why is it so much more involving? I just drive my PDK in manual if I wanna change gear💁🏾♂️
@ If you’re a PDK guy you’ll probably be happy staying put then. If you haven’t bought a manual by now then it’s not for you and genuinely no offence here but, if I have to try and explain how matching the revs to the clutch and rowing on a manual stick is more involving than pulling on two paddles then I fear I’d be wasting my time. PDK is for shaving tenths off a lap on track and for folk who are too rough to smoothly operate a manual or too lazy to learn. Oh plus you get the pub bragging rights of a quicker 0-60 with PDK and that pointless launch control. When every driver, journalist and car guy worth their salt bangs on about manual gearboxes, maybe, just maybe, there’s something to it. 🤔 I make my own mind up, but in the case of pure, analog drivers cars, then a manual gearbox is essential. I simply couldn’t imagine hitting a great stretch of twisty road and then just sitting with my foot planted, pulling on a flappy paddle. But there’s a bum for every seat and it sounds like you’ve found your ideal car. Enjoy. 👍🏻 PS. Gear ratios have never been a problem. Can change as often or as little as you like. If it was an issue just fit a shorter final drive. Nothing in the scale of things but after 20+ years in six 911s from aircooled to GT products, I’ve never had a single issue with the ratios.
@@marky9117 hahaha I lioe how you've assumed I can't drive a manual. Been driving for 30 years and before the Porsche I drove Subaru's and Evo's. Bloody hell, I still heel and toe in my work van every day for a laugh🤣.
@@punkarse100 That’s good to hear. 👍🏻 I never assumed anything. You asked how a manual Porsche is more involving and I explained my take on it. You’ll know from heel n toe’ing your works van that enjoying a manual box doesn’t have to be just about speed. You can cruise in a high gear or use the box more if you feel like it. That’s why most people who buy 911s as weekend road cars want a manual. The involvement argument isn’t really up for debate as anyone who knows, already knows. PDK is great for track or great for sitting in traffic. But if I go out simply to enjoy the thrill of driving I enjoy a manual way more. But like I say there’s a Porsche for everyone and a bum for every seat. 😎
I have no idea idea what these Guys are talking about. 996 was getting boring. 997 for a GT After that it’s turn on the Nannie’s and take a nap till u hit the track
997.1 Turbo manual still slept on
Not by me! I’m kind of shocked it wasn’t mentioned in anyone’s list, on this. It’s tops in my mind. Couple, all day.

987.1 Base 2.7 with 5 Speed Manual. Absolute machine with some suspension tweaks and no engine issues.
991 is one of the best looking 911s, and if you want that awesome NA sound it's the proper choice.
I agree. 2 years ago I sold my 981 GT4 to buy a one owner 2K mile 991.2 GT3 and I love it. 981 Spyder is where's its at for B road driving.. I know its difficult for most to look past the obligatory 911's, but the 981 Spyder is some car.
Just bought my Black Cayman 981 GTS, and its epic
For me the 981 and 991 is the sweet spot (peak ice car 2013 to 2018).

Definitely the very underrated platform of the 997.2, the GT & Turbo cars are already going up in the USA.
I like all of the 991.2s.
981 GT4 and spyder are peak porsche for the $
981 Boxster GTS for sure !
981 spyder and gt4, 997 gt3, 991 gt3 touring, 996 gt3.

Owned a PDK GTS didn't really rate it any more highly than the 997 S that replaced it.
Prices of 997.2 GTS is asking for future prices which is not worth buying right now. 991.1 pricing has dropped alot so I would buy a 991.1 Manual C2S
@nathanwild811I’ve also owned one… nice looks with the wide body and centre lock wheels… but underwhelming performance. 😢

997.2 GTS
Specifically a Manual will be the one to buy.
PDK is nice but the manual is a lot more rare with only 276 made in the USA.
Macadamia 997 Carerra S gen 2 👌
The best modern 911 in the best colour.
The Best Buy would be the 997.2 GT3 if you can pick up one with a good price. Those will continue to go up in pricing!!!
I’ve yet to see a decent priced one, people are already all over them
For me, if I had the money in 2025, I keep on coming back to a 718 Boxster 4.0 GTS or as Lee said 997 GT3 in guards red for me!
Nice to hear the lowly 987 getting some love for 2025. Enjoying mine that’s for sure.
They are basically the fabled 997 chassis with a mid engine 95% of the parts are identical between the 987s and 997s
Hydraulic steering will always mark the end of analog Porsche to me.

991.2 GTS 👌🏾
991-2 carrera T, 981 spyder
I really wish to know how many 997 GTS in rhd have been made, that are manual. And having the info by color would be a bonus.
997 feels like the sweet spot between old and new
997.2 GTS manual 😊
Andy Brooks fluffing the 996..... Never thought I'd see it🤣 great video guys happy New Year see you at Shoreham !
991 GT3 touring for me!
Only if you have the G6 engine...everyone is getting rid of their 991.1 GT3 with original engine in it
@. They did not make 991.1 touring.
981 GT4 for the win
996.1 3.4 manual coupe non sunroof

997.2 6 speed manual for me in dark blue with ocean blue leather - as purchased from Danny on my 60th Birthday!
Great video!
LOVE that Phil Raby mentioned his desire for a 964 Turbo (at 16:45min)
He said 924 not 964
Picked up a fully optioned 19000 mile 981 Boxster GTS for more than what it cost new! 😢😢
Nice stuff and love to hear the thoughts and the reasons why
997.2 base manual 🚗👌
For me, 2025
1967 SWB 2.0S ☺️
A really interesting video and a Happy New Year to you both :)
991.1 pdk carrera s pound for pound champ!
992.1 T....if I can afford one! 😁
Any 911 would be a dream come true though. 😎❤
718 Spyder RS … She’s a Screamer !
Why ask a dealer what to buy ?? Ask a serious collector . Dealer only wants to flog his stock
996 aero kit manual 3.4 no sunroof and no hard suspension option
I still prefer the look of my 2001 Carrera 4💕

981 gts cars are affordable, and less were made than GT4's and Spyders.
