I have the Japanese One Piece model PS3 Slim Cech 3000B, and it won't work for me. Do I need to download a Japanese firmware? If so, where do I find the proper firmware download? My current firmware is 4.86, I just installed a 1TB SSD, and it still says "No application update data was found..." I have tried this with x2 different Thumb Drives, so I suspect it's the firmware I downloaded, and I tried 2 of them. 4.88 and 4.90. Please help.
No need japanese firmware. Just use the one from sony website. Mine also bought from Japan and the OS installation is work with the sony website firmware. It typically thumbdrive issue. I use smaller capacity usb and original usb because there are some usb that i have not detceted by the ps3 and ps2 and also some Mac's.

How do you transfer the data from HDD to SSD after the upgrade?
If the capacities are the same you can just clone it.

Look into an hdd and ssd cloning machine
Back up your data on a flash drive. Then restore it on the new drive

Actually the ps3 is formatted and no data since I bought it used. That’s why i didn’t backup.
