Percussion is entirely Adam. But on a lot of these studio productions for utmost clarity and work-ability he records individual drum sounds on multiple tracks and then they are layered into the final mix. Not to say he can't sound almost identical to this live though, the guy has a beyond incredible talent.

Percy Sledge performed this right after his girlfriend dumped him. Walking on stage, he told the band to play something and created the song in the moment. They took it to the studio, polished it up, and released a classic song that stands the test of time. You really should hear it...

On Wikipedia Percy Sledge has two versions of the story.
It wasn't on stage, but before they were going on stage. After performing
their regular gig, they all three worked on it for weeks. At first Percy was
angry the song writers got most the credit but later said it was a group project.
Most great songs are. Each of the artist's influencers and co-workers usually
add something even if it is only a suggestion.

Home Free never, ever uses instruments in their group songs. They will if a member makes a solo recording. They only time they have ever used an "instrument" that I know of is when they do Man of Constant Sorrow live. Then they use a "looper" because there is so much going on but everything you hear even with the looper is their voices. If you ever get the chance to attend one of their concerts, GO! You will never ask that question again. Tim has a solo recording of I Can't Help Falling In Love. It really shows his range.

I think they can go together . I know when I first worked for the National Park Service at Indiana Dunes, I think during training I took the most notes and just retained the information, plus I had a file of notes from college courses in my office. Other rangers would often come to me asking natural history questions, so I don't know that I was THE MOST popular, but I was popular because I was knowledgeable, or if by chance I didn't know the answer, often I could quickly find the answer in my files. So, I wouldn't want to popular for something superficial, but I think one can have a bit of both and maybe that is ;more genuine and satisfying, and probably more enduring.

I know what it's like to be the smartest one in school. Means you end up doing other people's homework, and you're socially inept and never quite fit in. If I could, I might like to try something else for a change.
The original of this song was by Percy Sledge. I agree that this cover is in the same category as Sedge and Bolton. For a quieter rendition, you could check out Art Garfunkel's take.
PTX and Voiceplay occasionally use instruments. When they do, they show them plainly. Home Free never uses instruments. However, in some of their newer songs, they use looping onstage (and in the studio). In Man of Constant Sorrow, Chance does the Jaw Harp, and Adam does the regular percussion and then loops that while he does the fake harmonica.

This version from Home Free was a grand slam out of the ballpark. It is better than the original by Percy Sledge or the later cover by Michel Bolton

You should check out their performances on The Sing-Off, season 4. Tim does an amazing rendition of I Can't Help Falling in Love With You that showcases his amazing range. He also does a mashup of Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow/Stay that is incredible.

Percy Sledge, the original on the song would be proud. Never thought anyone could match Percy. Percy Sledge wrote this song on stage after having trouble between him and his girl.

I like how all the women reacting to him fall in love after the first not. I remember when I was young I would sing like this all the time. Yeah in my dreams. Austin killed this song. My wife always tells me that I get these man crushes. The first one was Matthew McConaughey, the second was Henry Cavill. If Austin sees this he will be number three. Wow just Wow.

Mike didn't write this song, it was Percy Sledge. IT truly is a blues song.

Schnell your dad must have liked Michael Bolton's cover of this Percy Sledge song. An all time classic to be sure. I have never been concerned with being popular. I never considered myself smart, probably because I hung around with smarter people. I do believe I learned a lot from those very smart friends and co-workers and now realize that I have my own special skills.

I own the business so I can honestly say that my wife is the smartest and most popular person in my workplace. 😝
In all of the other places I’ve worked, the smartest person was the one that was mostly quiet but kept their ears wide open. Taking in the good and throwing out the bad. Eventually that person climbed the popularity ladder because they were a good listener as well. Win/win. It’s best to be a blend of both because no one person knows everything and you want the person that does know to be willing to help you.

First bought this was one when Percy Sledge put it out in 1966, first had the vinyl first then recorded it to 8-Track in early 70's, now it's digitized to a MP3.

Michael Who?!?!?! PLEASE don't call this his! This was ALL Percy Sledge from 1966 [when I was a sophomore in High school]. Smart for me as well!
Yes, My Love.... those "Drums" are all Adam. This "Drum Solo" may help convince you once and for all: ua-cam.com/video/EanKWLUaDpg/v-deo.html
Also, FYI... Austin's eye contact here was actually with his GF Amberly who was in the studio when he recorded this. Check out one of his latest covers, the Glen Miller Orchestra classic, also made a classic again in 1960 by Etta James - At Last: ua-cam.com/video/O0Q9IeLgPvk/v-deo.html which he sings in the same key as Etta did.

Actually Percy Sledge sang the original when music had meaning. Can you imagine slow dancing to this when you were in high school like I was. What a song!
