The transitional CZ805 BREN was a deliberate adaptation towards the NATO 5.56 cartridge by the Czech Armed Forces to directly integrate into NATO operations under "Project 805", beating out he SCAR 16 in trials.
While the rifle has factory chambering in both 5.56NATO and 7.62 Soviet, Czech troops widely use the 5.56 NATO version in Afghan and European NATO operations as their standard issued weapon.
Currently the Czech military has started to phase out the Bren 805 with the Bren2 (806).

I love my 805 and have a similar setup with a red dot and magnifier ... Really crisp trigger and smooth as butter action.. Smoothest action I've ever ran on a semi auto...
Biggest issue is weight 7.9 lbs is heavy for a stock 5.56 rifle .... Also the lack of a bolt release and non reciprocating charging handle isn't ideal but its workable.. Still much much better then an AK or MP5 reload

Awesome review as always guys! I just got an idea that could raise the quality of your videos a lot in this kind of windy days. If you edit with Premiere Pro, you can select one of this super shaky clips and edit it with After Effects. There is a tool there to stabilize the clip around a point of interest, and since there is such a good contrast between the orange target and the green grass, the tool will work pretty good. There is a ton of tutorials out there around youtube to learn the tool, if your workflow is around the Adobe tools, give it a go! You will not be disapointed.

the 805 I front heavy, has minimal gas settings, razor sharp edges due to relief cuts on top rail, a less than optimal sling mount set up, a charging handle set for disaster and no bolt drop.
but hot damn, if that bolt isn't smoother than butter, a trigger that is equally smooth and looks beautiful.
I like my 805 enough to push past my annoyances with the system. is it perfect? No, but it's still one hell of a rifle.

I'd love to see you do one of your history videos on the 805 Bren and Bren 2. Oh and there's a very easy fix to the paratrooper's complaint, put on some ladder rail covers. It says a lot about the gun though, if that was their biggest complaint!

  • @sonatadusk3304
    @sonatadusk3304 4 роки тому

I've been using an 805 at 2 and 3 Gun matches for a little under a year now, with a red dot, out to 300 yards. Accuracy, as you saw, is perfectly serviceable (assuming the shooter doesn't have any screws loose).
As far as ergonomics go, I don't experience issues with the charging handle. To reload I just slap the handle with an open palm. The bolt hold open is very sensitive, and doesn't need much force at all to release. This is actually kind of annoying when I need to lock the bolt open, and the slightest jostle makes it go forward.
I'm also not a fan of the stock. You cheek riser is set far away from the rear of the receiver, which can make using certain optics tricky since your face can only be so far forward. I do at least like that I can make it as long as I need to. I'm a freak who likes a 14.5 in LOP.
The weight is another downside. CZ lists the rifle as 7.9 lbs empty. I got a D60 just because I thought it would be funny to make the gun even heavier.
The hand guard is also quite short, I suspect to keep your hand away from the gas piston vents. I use AFGs on most of my guns, and that takes up almost all of the 6 oclock rail. It's monolithic as well, so there's no way to make it longer.
The trigger is very good. Has a little take up, but a relatively light and clean break.
The gun is very reliable. I've never had a malfunction of any kind, even with tula. Even when I had to shoot weak side and my right hand partially covered the ejection port, it still cycled.
The 805 feels like a pre-production gun that the Czechs pushed into service because they NEEDED to replace the Vz 58. It's a fine rifle, but it lacks refinement. The refinement ultimately will be the 806, which I want to buy once I find out whether it's legal in MD or not.

They dont appear to be using anything special. If you are only looking 100 yards at paper get a really cheap one. Good value for the money = vortex....
looking for reticle and great glass.... well hope you have $2-$10k depending on the complete setup you want

805 is so nice to shoot. Any chance of seeing a 6.5 Grendel on that course of fire?

I would like to see the run with XM855LC ammo, I believe the results will be better than with the 223 62 gr FMJ

Love these videos. But I miss when you guys would actually shoot 9holes on a paper target to show the true MOA of a rifle.

Do you think if you used higher pressure NATO rounds it might have reached out past 300yds more effectively? I only saw .223 on the ammo box. Give me a 7.62 option and I'd pony-up for that sexy model.

Just curious as to why you don't use military spec ammunition when shooting military rifles? In this case, Lake City / Federal (X)M855 seems appropriate.

We're not supposed to use steel core on those targets, so we try to limit the appearance of those little apple green tic-tacs when shooting steel.

Just info from Czech background. This rifle did not pass any military trials. It was chosen by politicians. The rifle was not ready. It had lot of troubles- user unfriendly, heavy, not reliable, huge magazines, 3 or more types of magazine wells, no field disassambly of bolt group, expensive, etc. Every rifle, even disfunctional, was paid by tax payers, so was additional development. 805 design is so wrong that CZ was unable to fix it so they came up with new model - 806 that has more potential. Everything was paid by Czech tax payers and it is OK by Czech government. Right now we have 2 different rifles in service - 805, 806 and each rifle needs its own parts kit. You can image what nightmare it is for logistics. Irony of this story is that this is happening all over again - before it was with CZ pistols for police and for army. In uncorrupted country this company would never get any contract again. Not in Czech Republic. CZ is not even owned by Czech people so money is going out of country. Banana republic in middle of Europe.
