The developers definitely have gone on record saying don’t look up hints because once you start, you can’t stop and you start looking up everything instead of solving it on your own.
I actually never saw Sofie anywhere, so I actually god scared when I first saw her in the end. I thought that the power in the hospital turned out by pure coincidence and of course the game script. I never thought it was supposed to mean I wasn’t alone in the city. And so the fresh flowers in the cemitery made me think about people being there but ultimately, I thought that the game wasn’t realistic enough to make the fading flowers. So in the end during the persecution I actually had to pause the game and go search online what was going on because that breaking sound and seeing someone hitting me scared the shit out of me.
I watched this review too late. 😢 But I too, love this game. And also, Scott deserves better. He is my boy, my son, and his end and the days leading to it is so heartbreaking. And Tricia too, she is close to the truth, Scott is about to tell her but then it happened. 😢😢😢 The adults sucked on this one, and the one who paid the price are the children.
The "creepy factor" is what people used to call psychological horror. But now stuff with gameplay mainly based on gore, monsters and jump scares is way too many times categorized as such, because... well, people are dumb.
One thing that makes this game interesting despite not liking walking simulators for the most part (the only exceptions are debatably Return Of The Obra Dinn and Pathologic 2) is because of the aspect of having to piece things together over a lot of the games you brought up where things feel fairly laid out, at least for me.
SPOILERS! When that music started up near the end and I looked out the window I couldn't believe my eyes that they went with an actual in game threat to the player. My heart skipped a beat. It's an astounding game moment that I wished was experienced by more people. Pure gold.
While the game was more of a Walking Simulator than a Detective game as I had hoped and there's a slight suspension of disbelief with all the journals and keys just left there, this game is masterful at ambience and keeping suspense. The first place I went after the Sheriff Outpost was Anne's since I expected someone inside because of the car. I figured there would be a few people in town. After a bit of exploring though, I concluded that this town was completely abandoned, a snapshot in time just forgotten. To keep it spoiler free, it was when I got the slim jim tool and checked the car when every hair stood on end. And it kept that tension solely through written word and environmental storytelling.
If you're a fan of this game and an aspiring game developer, create something like this. Relatively easy to make and you have an audience that is just desperate for more games like this.
I've been searching for a video like this, so glad I found this one! I really enjoyed :) One of my favorite games you might enjoy is the Nancy Drew game Ghost of Thornton Hall! There is a set path through the game, but it's the ND game with the most pieces to put together outside of the "real" gameplay, which is really fun to dive into--and it's got three endings. It's a Southern Gothic mystery ft. a ghost and family secrets! Thanks again for this video! Super fun
I had this game for years and when I played it last year I found it just an amazing forgotten game I read all papers I found and when you descover more about what happend there you just feel sad for them how is only one sin make that for all people and how consequences for that sin I really feeling sorry for trisha she died after all without knowing any thing about scott feelings and why he abandond her thank you for making this video it's good one and give this game what it deserve really
I love love love this game. It practically ruined all walking sims for me now. It set such a high standard. I can't wait for their next game! You nailed it on how I felt while playing this. Excellent review!
Its good that you make these kind of videos about videogames Nobody does it ): You should star a Why I Love series about indie videogames or something like that
-spoilers- The way our view on sophia changes through the game was one of my favourite parts. Andrews house was one of the first we went into and stepping out and seeing her was terrifying. By that point we'd already pieced together her name and when the light went out in the hospital we were so sure Sophia was trying to kill us. But by the end of the game, being chased through the sewers, we were like "Sophia! Homegirl! So glad to see you yes we will follow your guidance ty bestie
Thank you so much for this video - I love TPK too! That amazing story, characters, music, AWWW! It's very, VERY good game. I think that you'll love the polish game "Vanishing of ethan carter" too! I'm a very big fan of this and this one is very similiar to TPK :) If you haven't played it yet, of course!
Finished this game on stream tonight! I really enjoyed the game however, I’m someone what suffers with Panic Disorder. The VERY SUDDEN change at the ending of the game threw me off so hard, I had to have my friends join me on Discord and read a guide to me to get away from the killer because I was in such a state. I really loved the game but I wish I had warnings for the “surprises” you get. Similar thing happened when the power shut down in the hospital. In hindsight, I agree with you that it definitely added to the experience, but yeah.. as someone with a disorder, it would have been nice to have SOME sort of warning about SOMETHING causing sudden upset.
That's totally valid! I do wish more horror games had readily available trigger warnings. Even if it's an extra option to click on to view from the menu. It really sucks that the "scare" triggered that issue for you. I'm glad you were able to enjoy the game for the most part, aside from that.

Thinking of making a game inspired by Painscreek Killings, and this is a wonderful video to watch to recapture what makes this game special.
Any progression in your venture? Would love to hear about it

have you tried return of the obra dinn?
Glad you enjoyed! I haven't played Obra Dinn yet, but it is sitting in my backlog. One of these days I'll play it!!

It's a really great game.
What was the first game with an incest plot twist?
A spoiler warning for the game 12 Minutes would've been great...
