@ThinWhiteAxe _"he just ain't there yet."_ I disagree. I think that he was fully formed and steaming on all cylinders by the time he signed with Pye in 1966. I'm sure when he married Iman this song had new meaning, for both of them. I watched their love story and it brought me to tears. His death devastated her, even though he had been sick for awhile. You can never be prepared for the death of someone you love. I lost my husband to Covid in August 2020, so I know how Iman feels. It hurts like hell. We have 5 daughters and we are all grief stricken. David Bowie was a legend, a beautiful artist who took us to the moon with his ingenious music and style. But to his wife and children, he was a father and a husband. Our grief is incomparable to what they're feeling. Death is inevitable. It's a part of life and we all have to leave this earth one day. It still hurts nonetheless. This song holds new meaning for me now. My husband's body may be gone, but he still sleeps beside me 💔
So well said. I lost my wife to cancer in June 2021. Only 66 yrs. old. It's been devastating and I'm still reeling. Every night in bed before going to sleep I still go through our "good night", "I love you". I hear her answer me back.
What I love about all the 60s stuff is that you can see the amazing trajectory from him being a cute, clever teenage boy with desire and a willingness to learn his craft and to put in the work, to the gorgeous and intelligent man capable of expressing himself in such beautiful and genius ways. Two of my fave songs of his are from his "mod" period of '65-'66, "Good Morning, Girl" and "I Dig Everything". It's a shame those weren't hits.
Baby, baby, brush the dust of youth from off your shoulder, Because the years of threading daisies lie behind you now. Don't return to fields of green where rainbow secrets were told. Place your ragged doll with all the toys and paints and beads. I will show you games where the winner never wins. Let your hair hang down. Wear the dress your mother wore. Let me sleep beside you. Lock away your childhood and throw away the key, For now the streets and city sounds will burn your eyes as coals. We shall drink the oldest wine, and velvet skies will linger. Child, you're a woman now, your heart and soul are free. I will hold a lighted lamp, and we shall walk together. Let your hair hang down. Wear the dress your mother wore. Let me sleep beside you. Your darkened eyes throw mystery, But your lips are void of history. You could not imagine that it could happen this way, could you? I will give you dreams, And I'll tell you things you'd like to hear. Let your hair hang down. Wear the dress your mother wore. Let me sleep beside you. Let me sleep beside you.

Nineteen/Twenty and coming out with these lyrical observations on life? ... I predict an artistic future for this young lad.

This song dragged back kicking and screaming to the Summer of Love. Mainly surprised I could remember any of the mid to late 1960's
David is the seeing eye. He was the spaceman. He taught us we can all be spacemen. He quides us to space, we must look for our answers in space, as one earth. United!
