    Thanks Corey for enlightenment about Bee's Knees and Saffron Finch. I will pay attention to the patent numbers now.

      That doesn’t happen all that often, but it’s interesting when you find one (FYI - BIG begonias are supposed to be the same as Surefire begonias, and the BIGs are available from seed).

    I love them all! I just wish our greenhouses in Manitoba would carry more variety and more of the new plants.

    • @UpNorthGardenMI
      @UpNorthGardenMI  5 місяців тому +1

      The newer varieties can be more expensive for nurseries to carry, so sometimes they're reluctant to carry them. If you have a relationship with the people at your local nursery, maybe you can talk them into trying one or two new varieties next season.

      Thrilled to hear you’ve gotten some inspiration. Hopefully, you’ve got a great local nursery that is able to get many of these new varieties. If not, let them know what you’re looking for and they may have some alternatives.

      Looking forward to your visit. We have the best selection of annuals in May… after that, we move into perennials, trees, she shrubs.

    I thought the Saffron Finch and Bee's Knees looked super similar, and even thought to myself, could they be the same plant?

    • @UpNorthGardenMI
      @UpNorthGardenMI  5 місяців тому +1

      Good eye. I thought the exact thing and looked up the patent info right away. It’s an incredible plant, so I’m glad it’ll be available to more people this season.

    both of the yellow suptertunia vistas I got last year were a complete bust. I had it matched with the jazzberry in my filberts pot and they died out so quick. I was really disappointed with it. I'm excited to try saffron finch this year!

    • @UpNorthGardenMI
      @UpNorthGardenMI  6 місяців тому

      Oh no, I wonder what went wrong with the Mini Vista Yellows. I think you’ll be very happy with the Saffron Finch - it would look great with Jazzberry.

    • @amandabottoms1
      @amandabottoms1 6 місяців тому

      @UpNorthGardenMI I'm genuinely not sure, i pulled it, immediately replaced with the bubblegum and they did splendidly. I didn't change watering habits or the soil between plants. Sometimes i think plants just don't wanna live. I try to be respectful of their choices.

    • @UpNorthGardenMI
      @UpNorthGardenMI  6 місяців тому +1

      @@amandabottoms1 Yep. Sometimes it's better to just let the plants tell you what's going to grow (but it's still fun to try... and every once in a while get a surprise).

    I hve the Saffron Finch and love the color. I would have bought more than one but there was only one left. I put it in a large pot because I never do hanginging bakets. It is getting a bit leggy already. What to do? Should I cut it back now?

    • @UpNorthGardenMI
      @UpNorthGardenMI  2 місяці тому

      Have you been fertilizing it every week with water soluble fertilizer? I suggest trimming it back and then fertilize. The other cause of leggy petunias can be lack of sun.

    • @jeanneknight4791
      @jeanneknight4791 2 місяці тому

      @@UpNorthGardenMI Thanks. I haven't fertilized yet because I just bought it a few weeks ago. I then realized that a tree was keeping the sun which used to be strong in this spot now casts dappled shade over it on the west side of my house in the afternoon.. I shall do what you suggest. Thanks!

    What is the difference between lantana and verbena?

    • @UpNorthGardenMI
      @UpNorthGardenMI  2 місяці тому

      They are both plants that can come in mounding or mounding/trailing varieties, but they have different looks when it comes to color and flower look. Both have fragrant foliage, but they smell very different from each other. I’d suggest a visit to your local garden center - the differences are better experienced in-person.

    Do these Petunias require dead heading?

    • @UpNorthGardenMI
      @UpNorthGardenMI  3 місяці тому +1

      I haven’t grown Amazonas or Tea so I’m not certain on those, but all the others don’t require deadheading… you can if you like, but otherwise the wind takes care of them.
