These were great buses. I used to catch one to go to and from school then when i left school, i used to catch one to and from work.... happy memories (the engine and gearbox had it's own unique sequential rhythm - no bus today has come close). A big plus is my grandad used to drive buses donkeys years ago (Leyland Titan PD3)
Agreed. Probably one of the best low floors to be made! We have a load here in Merseyside. Some of our commanders are now training vehicles, we still have a load in service, luckily. I know a lot of these are now heading for the scrap, especially the 06 green interior cadets. It’s a real shame they are now being withdrawn 😞 617 looks like it’s in amazing condition. Don’t see why they can’t stay for another few years😆 I know a lot of Yorkshire Tiger vehicles are at our St Helens depot in the workshop. Seems like you guys are having a fleet shakeup? Anyway, thanks for another fantastic video. Goodbye 617😥
Engine sounds are reminding me of my 2003-2006 plate Dennis darts, we have i'd say about 20 darts, I may be wrong, sitting around doing nothing right now due to covid-19, but when timetables are back to normal hopefully all or some will be back on the road and, sadly, from what I know is that one of my 2006 plates have gone to scrap with some memories of Go2 on it... there's a couple out and about today but they're up north, about 40 mins to 1 hour away from me, hope to get some final pictures of them before they go..
I have been on these sort of buses and I have to agree to what you said when ever I was at the bus stop waiting for one of these buses they ALWAYS turned up on time and they always got me to my destination on time and I have heard bus drivers saying how much they love driving them and plus every bus driver I seen driving them they seem to fit perfectly in the cab unlike some of the modern buses nowadays
When I first saw the thumbnail I thought 'oh no he's leaving tiger again' and then I read the title 😂. Nice video the cadets will be missed, I grew with cadets in Eastbourne but sadly they have been scrapped.
Must admit, it wasn't until I heard the engine that I realised that I had driven one of these on a driving assessment with arriva; I seem to recall remarking how nice it was to drive, but I never joined them lol
I'm sure we have a couple of these running on the prom service from St.Annes to Blackpool with Catch 22? they came from South Wales,. also your bus would not look out of place on the roads of Malta.
Hey Shaun great video love your content! I believe you are losing your Evolutions to Arriva at the end of the month with Idle depot being shut down due to Transdev taking over, there are gonna be some fleet changes! Would it be possible to make a video of the evolutions before they go to Selby if you haven't done one! Keep up the good work. Surely they could have tried to sell an 06 plate on instead of scrapping it surely just to see if someone body would want it. It's a shame to see these cadets go for scrap. Arriva will probably sell the 06 commanders when they go probably within the next year. Any idea of it's replacement Shaun? Maybe the 17 plate enviro 200's from Idle? Anyway mate great video, keep up the good work.
I've seen the transfer and scrap lists and its a big change around! Hopefully ill get some footage of the Evo's before they go! Ive not got long though haha!
It's a shame it's going for scrap. At 13 years old Dublin Bus vehicles get sold on for futher use. Small timers here in ireland and in the uk buy them and get a few more years out of them. Although Covid-19 may have slowed withdrawls and resales down.
Spoke to Tiger and all of them are going all the idle commanders will go with the rest of the idle buses transferred to Elland and Waterloo mainly Elland.
A lot of these busses that Britain retires would benefit countries likes the Bahamas or Jamaica that need new busses. I recently helped get an Opatre Solo get shipped to the Bahamas as a tour bus. It’s going next year.
I'm guessing that that VDL Commanders are worthless or simply not built to last. Darts have the same running gear and are easily outlasting them. I've seen loads of Yorkshire Tiger Solo's in Wigleys. I used to go an ex K Lined DAF SB 120 from Sheffield to Castleton quite often. Y293HUA. Last with Hulleys of Baslow.
The Flat Cap Bus Driver I bet, that’s why I like our MMCs hahah. I sent you a message on Facebook the other day asking how things are up there. I’ve been plucked by Transdev Harrogate Bus Company from First Cymru 😂 maybe I’ll see you around!
it'll be really sad to see these amazing cadets go.. I can't say that I've ever been to yorkshire but I am from the shires where arriva shires operates and we used to have a mix of cadets and dart slfs and a couple solos on my local route that they recently (ish) stopped serving, and I have lots of fond memories of the cadets as they were really nice to ride on, they weren't on time but they were nice, I have a feeling that's an arriva issue though not the cadets' issue 😂 it will be really sad to see them go though.. maybe we'll find some go into preservation!!
You'll no doubt be tearful however are there any preservation groups, that the bus could be offered to or that would potentially want? Cracking video as usual Shaun, even if it has a sad feeling added on. Camera angles are awesome!
Used to love these busses back when Translink operated them, interesting to see that some companies in England still have some, even if they are at the end of their life.
I remember that they had 3 of these buses in Lincoln years ago when it was road car before stagecoach took over very comfortable and leg room especially when on the route from Lincoln to Skegness
chris cocker Leyland National was a legendary bus. They had pretty much a whole fleet of them at the depot where I started out bus driving and had just started to replace them. That unmistakable whine from the cooling fan combined with that clunky semi-automatic gear stick... Some where re-engineered at Watford depot with Volvo running gear but in the end it was the Low Floor bus that killed them off for good....

I miss the Cadets I drove at Guildford, they were ousted out in 2016 by Versa’s from Southend. There was always a 50/50 chance the bus wouldn’t start if you switched it off. Defiantly the best spaced cab for a driver.
When I saw the thumbnail I thought it was going to be the Volvo Wright Renown bus as it’s looks like it and they are getting pretty old now. Still have a few of those buses round my area. I think the darts have all disappeared now though. :( If you’ve got the time then check out my bus driving videos on OMSI 2, which is a very realistic bus simulator game if you don’t know.
Shaun , what are Waterloo going to have now with these gone and the MCV evolutions all going to Arriva Selby - please don’t say the 08 reg solo’s that are surplus from idle ....
Waterloo getting Tempos from Arriva Castleford depot, due to fleet standardization apparently with Castleford losing the 408/409 to Selby and them getting Versas from Idle for the 167/168 they dont need the tempos anymore
You say “going to scrap” but usually if the scrapper thinks it’s a perfectly serviceable and running bus there’s equally every chance after some minor refurbishment it could end up living on sold to a small local operator or even shipped abroad to carry on going for a couple more years yet.....

Junior Jordans old bus
There's always preservation! (Quite expensive though!!)
Ofc but they are lovely buses to drive best bus to drive i think
I always find that when a bus gets withdrawn, its like taking away a part of you
I agree
I drove a good few Daf/VDL SB120s and we have the SB200/Wright buses which are awesome. You'll never get a better sounding horn either.

The Flat Cap Bus Driver how old are these buses
Great video Shaun. We lost those type of buses in London a while ago.
I hope some of them get preserved!
Cadets are lovely buses. There are a lovely few in Wales and North West and they are all lovely
Awesome vid and awesome Batman tattoo!!! Sorry to see the old girl go. I had some good buses that I drove that I kind of miss as well

Where I live in North Wales we have 04/06 and 07 reg DAF SB120 Wright Cadets good buses
And 55 plates.
Going to scrap already? She's only 14 years old! Down here with First West of England, we're still running W reg (2000) Volvo B7TLs.

As you mentioned unlike solos they have loads of leg room
Still driving busses where I work that are 2004/2005 built, and with 900k miles on clock in far worse condition.
There’s a couple in Elland depot... not sure when they’ll go
Some cadets and commandersfrom Tiger have gone to Arriva North East to provide extra capacity for school services

Love these old darts but still not as old as the really old darts Pennine used to own with the metal seats!
Arriva North East got a ton of these Cadets from Liverpool and Chester

they will be mate :(
Scrapping an 06 plate bus!? We're still running 51 plate Volvos up here in Newcastle.
I wonder why they keep buying new buses when the old ones still work fine! Doesn’t make sense to me! Anyway, nice video. :)
what song is that at the start of the video
The placement of the Hanover controller and handbrake though!
Honestly it’s amazing, not having to get up out of the seat is so lazy but just so brilliant hahah 🚌😁

Translink never operated wright cadets I think you are getting them confused with wright renown’s which translink had 👍🏻
