Hats off to you indeed, I wish more drivers had the attitude you did. Whilst I was a management trainee at Plymouth Citybus, I did a week with the cleaners/shunters, and it was by far and away the most valuable thing I did. A job you think would be simple and easy, was possibly the hardest work I've ever done in the bus industry. They work DAMN hard, and I could not keep up with them! I was totally and utterly knackered after my nights with them, but they were still there, happy to do more! Amazing people that as you rightly say, really aren't appreciated enough for what they do. I wish we could get more drivers to do similar to you, and indeed other members of management, just to open their eyes.
can it beat 9 seconds to 10mph on flat land?? have a double decker on a w reg in my depot that does that granted it doesn't get put in service very often
My dad owns a bus company in my local area, I’ve been shunting buses and parking them with supervision from my dad for years. I’m 16. Recently I’ve been doing it un-supervises for a few months and feel very comfortable squeezing a double deck scania into a tight space :)
Hey bud. Good on you for doing this wee video. I myself was working at the Inverness stagecoach depot last year for near a year (until the stress was just too much to handle) I was mainly doing the parking although I had done everything else before that. On week days when the schools were on there was around 90 buses to be done on that shift from 5pm to 1.30am. I was the same as you about not confident enough to do the parking but had no choice and just take you're time when manoeuvring and dont hesitate to shout your head off at drivers that came in and abandoned a bus that will be in the way. On a number of times I would be on my own until 9am to get buses washed and fuelled because of the other shunters (polish) buffered off home as the were stressed out themselves even though they were not doing the parking side of things. Had to stay because I couldn't have on my shoulders, leave unfuelled buses for the morning and leave absolute chaos for morning drivers. The place is a mess and really if you want a challenge then go there. I left because of major stress, not being appreciated by the bosses for the work I did and more pressure kept on being added even after I complained about the conditions. I always got appreciated by most of the drivers and the controllers and some would help at times when they could see the pressure I was going through whilst litterly running about cursing and near ripping my hair out. 50 busses is a walk in the park hahaha when I was there, there was a max of 5 shunters at times but usually only 3. Sorry for the long long rant but honestly it's great to see yourself actually recording a video of what can happen. Take care dude.
Good to see you guys hard at work. Our depot has about twice as many buses I think, if not more. After 8pm or so every night there's 3 lines of buses 5 or 6 deep just to go through the wash, not to mention all the ones already parked up!
Love seeing these sorts of vids, not your usual job but you got stuck in to see what it's all about, awesome! More bosses should do this to see what goes on in their own company!
Good morning from the USA I used to park buses clean mop sweep and I did bus driving with passengers at my job we run the buses through the bus wash with big brushes cleaning the bus with water spraying on it not really by hand just tire rims and back of bus I'm enjoying your videos keep up great job 🚌👍
Great vid, FCBD. It’s a similar thing with trains. The guys and gals do an amazing job, making them look (almost) new for the mornings early starts. The states they are left in at the end of the day are atrocious! I can imagine the same for buses. Hats off to the staff who transform the buses from scruffy to clean. Great to show the public the stuff they won’t see and appreciate. Top work, fella. 👍👍👍
This is why I love your videos Shaun, you show all sides of work inside the depot and especially working alongside engineers and cleaners, as it’s something that most people wouldn’t see. Great video 👏 x
Great video as always mate! It must be so cold doing that job but good on you for offering to help. some drivers just dont care they just park up in the depot and fuck off home lol!
I live not that far from my local bus depot and when ever I walk past at night I stand there and watch the buses being refiled, cleaned and parked and not many people get to do that as not many people live around a corner from their local depot
I had to use the Max 268a to Wakefield Westgate the other day, it was the first time on a bus with every window covered in muck. Very claustrophobic. Nice to see your buses are clean. Great video subscribed
The weather isnt very condusive to clean buses atm... all the grit and muck on the road gets chucked up the sides, not to mention when a grit lorry is going the other way and absolutely peppers then bus you're driving with grit.
Really interesting video. I could do with a team like that to wash/clean/fuel my coach! Having to do it all yourself really makes me appreciate these guys. I like many other drivers I'm sure didn't know how lucky I was when I drove route services. Thanks for the insight :)
Another great post. Love your style and your mate. I am sure You do the industry a lot of good. If the buses are too close together how do the let's say, larger drivers get in
Awesome video mate, always good to see the forgotten jobs around yards and when you actually do it you appreciate it a lot more.. keep the awesome videos coming
This is a brilliant video Shaun! It’s great to see what happens with the Tigers at the end of the day! It looks bloody difficult to park all the buses so close together like that! All the best mate! 🙂👍
Different from my country where i used to drive two doors 12m single deck,12m three axles deckers and 18m articulate buses..Depot capacity is 300 minimum with 750 is the maximum..I can drive metro trains too..I ride my 1199cc bike to work
And I thought we used to packed them in tight in Wellington NZ (until we had to downsize our fleet last year) but we have the advantage at most of our depots is drive through storage barns.

at our depot, it's obvious when we have a new shunter because all the buses are parked in forwards, meaning we have to reverse them out for morning run out lol
I did this for 3 months. At a well known bus firm that you worked for. From the bus coming in to entering the wash the sweeper has 3-6 minutes, depending on fuel load to sweep a 40-44ft bus off. I know the hardship. The regular shunters and cleaners are on £8.50p/h for a job that's very fast paced and physical.
Thanks for the vid. I am thinking of applying for this kind of job. The pay scale looks good, but the starting salary does not. Do you get free bus travel? how long is your shift? Many thanks Paul
Presumably the bus wash itself wasn't working. PS do you think Transdev will invest in the fleet following the news of their planned acquisition of Yorkshire Tiger?
Great video Shaun. Going back many years, the company I worked for at the time had an allocation of 150 at our depot.... That was entertaining to put it mildly for the RSF (running shift fitter) for putting that lot to bed. Slight change of subject, how many Tiger Blues have you got left?
thank you Andy!! sorry for taking so long getting back to you with your question but I find it hard to find time!! We don't have many tiger blue buses left now as they are all going for paint! I love the blue but unfortunately they are all slowly going orange :( even 280 the metro solo is in for paint as we speak :(
Wow what a great insight video, nice to see things that happen behind the scenes. Looks like you worked very hard cleaning all those buses. Hats off to you and the bus company for letting you do this video.

Hi, great video. Is Yorkshire Tiger owned by Arriva? 😃
Yes a subsidiary since 2013
Just been sold to Transdev. The sale is due to be completed within a few weeks.
Plus there are some tempos in London followed by more
You use the same Vix ticket machines we do up at Stagecoach on Teesside!
Great video mate, keep it up :)

Cold weather often prevents exterior wash due to freezing on the ground of the depot from water dripping off while parking
@@K21_KXW That makes a lot sense actually. Thanks man :)
