Jiu-Jitsu Advantage: : How To Finish The Cross Collar Choke (From Guard)
The Cross Collar Choke is an underutilized and underestimated submission in the gi.
Using the right mechanics on the choke while disrupting your opponent’s base will greatly improve your ability to finish this misunderstood submission. In case you are unable to see the movement and direction of my wrists, the easiest way to explain it is, you want to go from seeing the top of your thumbs to seeing the inside of your wrists (where your watch clasp would be).

These are the fine details that are missing from many instructionals out there. Thanks for this.
🙏👊
Poor Josh 🙅🏼♀️
Yeah but what does he actually need his neck for? 😂
How great to see Kenny Florian showing techniques with the Gi. I remember here in Argentina, there was only one channel that broadcast a repeat of a UFC event. I watched the Florian vs. Stout like a thousand times.
Thank you Kenny, will apply your details.
Daaang you can see how incredibly tight that is getting technical so effortless and beautiful...good on the blue belt for his head not popping off 👊🏼🥋🔥
Beautiful detail that the choke comes from the hips.
Great details professor! Thanks for sharing with us
Thank you. I like that breakdown a lot. If it’s possible, I would have been interested to see that arm/wrist twist in open air without the opponent there. I mainly have rolled no gi and can’t quite understand what that motion looks like.
Totally agree, that would've helped. Apologies.
Now I am getting curious to hear Josh talk. Can he add a detail or two of how he is in pain or something :)
On a serious note, I like the details you explain here on how this move works really well when opponent is posturing up. Now I see where I had most of my troubles with that choke, it's because they were putting pressure on me and I couldn't finish it.
So if we do close our guard, do we crunch the legs in or extend our legs outward?
Nice to see some 50/50 guys on here haha
Hey professor - first time caller, long time listener. I find that when I set up the initial deep grip, the opponent typically immediately recognizes the threat and goes for unders to break the grip or postures up. I'm thinking that depending on their response, I might go to a scissor sweep or hip bump (if it's there) -- any other thoughts? Thanks, miss your classes man.
Hey Sam, 1. Anything can be stopped or countered. 2. The way in which we do things matters. 3. One attack gets essentially stopped with one move so use combinations of moves and don’t think in terms of one move vs one move. You take what is available at a point in time, you don’t just decide to do one thing and expect to get it. This is one move that someone can attack with but knowledge of position is what YOU specifically need over any singular move. I will address this when my instructional comes out which will address understanding position and not just doing move collection/memorization.
We need to get you on the Joe Rogan podcast to boost up your channel I really want to see successful I want to see anybody successful to be honest with you bro
