    This is the reason we love Prof. Henry Akins style jiu jitsu. Very effective details

    I just love the little details. I'm always amazed (still a white belt) at how a 1" difference can be crucial in securing a tap. Great stuff.

    Mannn I remember learning this variation on the choke from a Pedro Sauer affiliate in Singapore a few years ago. I had almost completely forgotten it! Such a good reminder 🤘🤘

    Henry once demonstrated a cross choke on me. First nose bleed I’d had in over a decade.

    How do you get the contact with the neck though. Guys really good at tucking their chins. As soon as that hand goes in the neck disappears.

    I didn't know Bernardo is German now. In the first 4,5 minutes he says "Ja" 30 times. I stopped counting, since I wanted to observe the actual video.

    How do you set this up? the opponent has 2 free hands

    • @bigbuck919
      @bigbuck919 11 місяців тому

      Yes his hands are “free” but his whole body is not. Given the positional advantage which is closed guard your opponent would be fighting to pass your guard or stand up. Breaking posture and closing space is so important while in any type of guard and you should focus on that before you launch any attacks.

  • @BarrySRNA

    Im always being told, (im a new white belt) to not leave your arms out to keep trex arms, esp on top. So why would this be a smart move in someone more experienced? Doesnt leave you exposed to armbars?

    • @jonevans870
      @jonevans870 Рік тому +1

      If someone is in your guard, they cannot armbar you. So what Henry is doing is safe for him. When the guy inside the guard pushes on the opponent’s chest with his arm, yes there is a risk there. But it’s only slight. When in someone’s guard you want to make sure your hand doesn’t cross the centre line of their chest (e.g your left hand shouldn’t cross over to his left side). And when you’re attacking from guard, you will try to bait him into giving you his arms.
