I am a History teacher in America- and a struggling, 52-year-old blue belt. Your instruction is- simply put- the best I've ever seen. Teaching comes naturally to you; it's effortless. I cannot thank you enough; you deserve a million subscribers for this content.

@@TheGrapplingAcademy it needs to be said. Teaching is definitely one of the most unappreciated roles a person can play. It's a blessing to have a teacher that wants their students to improve.

I have watched several different people teach cross chokes and it's amazing how there are so many different details. I have noticed your video editing is increasing/improving so I congratulate you on that. Thank you for the help!

Awesome, ive been on a mission to cross choke everyone lately.
If you feel like you arnt getting any taps. One thing ive noticed is that i used to have the choke but let go because my partner wasnt tapping. Just feeling confident in my grips and squeezing for 10 seconds before adjusting grips made all the difference.
Guys will try to look like its not working then five / 10 seconds later you hear the gurgle lol

Thanks for pointing out that it's usually 1 hand that chokes, i think this will help me out a lot.
The angle cut is a nice detail to transfer to an armbar or canto choke, if the cross won't work.
This was pretty much one of the first submission's i learned, been training for 7 months so i'm still a beginner,
but i have never managed to make it work during a roll.

Amazing teacher, seen a lot of bjj highly qualified people on the mats and when it comes to knowledge transfer and the ability to make people in a very easy and straightforward manner, fully understand the concept behind each technique, they fail and some even fail miserably, Tom does it brilliantly, in a very structured and thorough perspective allowing all spectrum of different level grapplers, regardless if you are more experienced and only need a few more tips to add to your game or if you are starting from scratch

The main problem I'm having with this is due to my lack of mobility in wrists due to decades in manual labor so getting the choke hand in gets kinda painful.
Does turning my choking hands knuckle side (errrrrr...palm?) make the choke weaker or totally useless?
