  • Miss Sew shows you how to start and end the Top Coverstitch (otherwise known as the Double Coverstitch) in the round.
This technique can be used to add decorative top coverstitching on any tubular item such as sleeves and trouser legs.
The machine used in the video is a Brother CV3550 which has the additional top / double coverstitch feature. This stitch can also be found on the Janome 3000 coverstitch machine and other brands / models. Refer to your manual for more details.

Thank you, thank you, thank you 😘 I have had this machine for 3 years, yes 3 years and have been terrified of the flippin’ thing. Couldn’t fathom it out at all. This is the perfect video for me as it covers every aspect of every query I had. Beautifully and clearly explained and clearly shot. I’m so grateful. Big hug x

Exactly what I was looking for! I haven't used this feature on my machine much because I could not figure out how to do it in the round. Thank you!

is this the only machine (domestic) that can do a double overstitch? I was looking at my manual but I don't believe Juki 1500 can do that or a Bernette Funlock B 48

There are a couple of other domestic machines which offer the top coverstitch option:
Janome 1200D and Janome CoverPro 3000. These are the only ones I’m aware of. It’s not possible on the Juki or Bernette.

Thank you for quick response! I never thought about the double stitch until your video. I already have 2 machines. Oh well... guess flat locking my only option. Thanks!

I have the janome 1000cp and thinking of upgrading to a top cover model. I’ve read mixed reviews on the Brother. What are your thoughts on it. The janome 3000 does a top cover too and some say it has a better build quality. Thank you

I’ve not heard any bad reviews about the Janome 3000 and it is the newest of the machines which offer a top cover stitch. If you can afford to upgrade to this machine I’d go for it! 😀

    Wouldn't the free-arm help??

I find it easier to stitch inside the tube rather than use the free arm.
