What a selfless legend. It is disheartening to note his amazing talent was not recognised and amplified through media at the time. He was not only a talented song writer, composer and singer, but also a great role model. In a corporate work environment, people talents are recognised, retained and used for organisational quality improvement. The same principle should apply to a country as a whole. Thank you ITN for presenting this beautiful show in memory of this legend, whose songs remain evergreen….
Before Moonstones there was a group called Shaakians with more than 10 members including Clarence & Milton Mallawarachi. Anyone who has sweet memory at that time may clarify. Also I remember Vijay Corea's Zellers Sundown Get Together on SLBC..
Yes Wijaya. Clarence was sidelined wholesale by the GOSL. The Sinhala musicians and the Sinhala service of Radio Ceylon ganged up against Clarence and formed a strong Lobby against him and prevented any formal recognision . As you say Wijaya his music has no expiry date. I am very happy that this programme was done on his 75th B day. I am also very happy and thankful to Rajiv S for getting the road named after him. I am also thankful to Nadeeka G for writing a book on Clarence I wish Clarence would be honoured by awarding the highest award (කලා විඹුශන) ? Posthumously . I am 71 years now and l hope l will live yo see this happen. I have never seen or met Clarence . May his soul rest in peace
