  • I was lucky enough to be sent the Artistro Watercolor Paint Set (48 colours) to review. I agreed (everyone likes a freebie, don't they?) as long as I was allowed to be 100% honest. So here is my review - there are plus points, there are negatives, and I will share with you the type of work that I think will be best suited to do with this set.
    You can get 10% off Artistro's products on Amazon USA, UK, Australia and Canada stores by using the promo code LIZCHADERTON , so I hope that's a nice little something😊!
    If you like seeing product reviews, let me know and I may do more. If you think these reviews are a waste of time, please tell me too! I release a new film every Sunday at 2pm GMT, so if there is a topic you would like covering please let me know.
    In my next film, I have put the paints through their paces - trying to play to their strengths, so I think you might like that one too. If you want to see it, hit subscribe and the notification bell and it will be out on 20 March 2022. This is the link: • Painting flowers in wa...

    Really useful review. It's thorough and gives both postives, negatives and what the paints are most useful for. Really glad I found your channel

    Great, honest review! I absolutely love that tin, but not for the price of the set. They may have been better off spending less money on packaging and upping the quality a bit. Thanks for doing this!

    First thing I'd do is switch out that waterbrush for a large round Pentel Aquash. But you're so skilled and talented, you'd probably be able to paint with a hairbrush

      Flattery will get you everywhere! I only use water brushes for urban sketching, where the quality doesn’t particularly matter. paper is so much more important than brush, don’t you think?

      @@LizChadertonArt Haha! And yes I agree! I started out with Canson XL cellulose...HUGE mistake! Of course I was so discouraged. Although I think pulp/cellulose can help with learning water control because it's so 🤬🤬 finicky. Cotton makes all the difference. Thorough sizing can help too for wet/wet I think, but yeah, the biggest difference out of all supplies is starting with 100% cotton for sure.
      Perhaps it's just because I'm still a novice, but I gravitate towards my Pentel Aquash water brushes even at home unless I'm dry brushing, but even then, I've had success by just dumping into my jar. I find:
      1) the point is better than a rigger,
      2) it's got as much water on the bristles as needed without being too wet (except for the small),
      3) I appreciate how springy the bristles are,
      4) I don't have to bother with 2 water jars, although I still prefer to have a dirty water jar. Instead of a clean jar, I just drip water out into the dirty jar when needed.
      But I mean it about the skilled and talented comment -- you've clearly worked hard to get to the level you are

      @@violinzeta Thank you. It doesn't sound like you are still a novice. You have learnt some lessons even experienced artists haven't cottoned onto! Interesting perspective on the waterbrushes. I have never looked at them in that light. I shall take another look and not be so snobby!

    The colors are definitely a little different but I think this palette is so much fun for sketchbook work, doodling, crafting etc. I love opaque paints so this set is fun for me. They are a bit chalky but still fun to play with. I only paid 20.00 for the set on Amazon.

    Thanky you for your honest and thorough review. Until now there were 2 channels that I trusted for reviews, glad to have another! The tin is fantastic. I think I'd remove the paints (there are too many colors fory taste) and add my own 1/2 pans, and put something white in the lid for mixing. The thickness would be good for holding pencils and brushes too. Thank you so much! 🖌

    Thank you for this awesome review. I just purchased it and new with watercolor paints. They updated the card a wee bit but still not perfect. I agree with that. What do you do with the watercolor pen? Just fill with fav color? Thx again!

    • @LizChadertonArt
      @LizChadertonArt  3 місяці тому +1

      You can fill it with colour, or simply with water, so you can paint in the go. just wipe off the bristles on a towel before changing colour. it’s great for travel sketching.

    It's weird they include fluorescents and not a fluorescent pink or opera rose

    • @LizChadertonArt
      @LizChadertonArt  2 роки тому

      I am concerned the fluorescents will fade. Opera rose is fugitive too, so no great loss!

      It is true of so many companies though. My books are published by a UK publisher, but printed in India - I can't work out how that is cheaper and easier taking into account transport.

      @@LizChadertonArt Hi Liz, I'm across the pond in Canada.

    • @LizChadertonArt
      @LizChadertonArt  Рік тому +1

      @@richardcrowe3286 That makes it tricky for me because it depends on budget and availability. I personally like tube watercolour (quick and richer to mix) and you can’t go far wrong as a beginner with some Cottman tubes from Windsor and Newton. The problem with sets is they come with black and white which you don’t need. Go for a warm and cool red, blue and yellow, an earth colour like burnt Sienna or Umber and maybe a convenience colour like diox purple or sap green and you will be able to mix anything. If you want to paint florals add in a pink too.
