  • Last week, the OECD released the results of the program for international student assessment, better known as PISA. Every three years, hundreds of thousands of 15-year-old students from across the world sit tests in maths, science and reading. But what do the results show for Australia? And are our students doing better, worse, or about the same?
Listen to Jordana Hunter, Education Program Director, and Nick Parkinson, Senior Associate, in conversation with host Kat Clay about the test and what the results reveal about Australia's education system.

The standout performer in Maths is China not Singapore.

PISA is a good example of one of one of those things people do not need and no one wants to grade. I have never touched a PISA exam or test and do not see any reason for why anybody else should. If a man wants to take a PISA poll or exam, let him do it, but do not ask him to submit it for grading. Stop asking people to submit these things.

Australia scored above the OECD average in mathematics (487), reading (498), and science (507), but its performance has declined over the longer term.
