**Some things I didn’t mention in this video!** Sewing Machine: - I use a stitch length and tension of 3 on my sewing machine to attach the lining (I just use a regular straight stitch) - I like to colour match my bobbin thread to the bag colour in order for the stitching to be barely noticeable Hand sewing: - If hand sewing, I recommend to use a back stitch for the assembly of the lining and then use an invisible stitch to attach the liner to the bag (this way you don’t have to worry about the thread appearing on other side of bag) Ironing: - At the time of making this video, I did not have an iron mat so I used my carpet, DO NOT do this, it was not smart of me and I definitely do not recommend this!
What sewing machine brand do you use, because I believe I may not have one big enough it keeps on jamming as soon as I try to make a stitch! Through the lining and the crochet
hey, thanks for the video! one wee question about the needle though, what size did you use? and did you use a regular machine needle or something like a ballpoint? thank you so much! 🫶🏻
@@kourtneyskinner9791 omg this exact same thing happened to me when I first tried! The solution for me was to do all of the lining in machine sewing, and then attach it with hand sewing. Hope this helps!
I hope more people are able to find this video who need help with lining. I've never done it before, and I thought it'd be impossible, but you made it look as easy as making a granny square! So excited to try this!
this was literally so helpful. I promised to help my sister sew a lining into a bag we made and had no idea how to attach it to the fabric. I changed a few things only because our bag was slightly different so all in all really good, direct tutorial. and I actually think a good tutorial can be modified to fit the needs of the user which this one very much is! good job!
Thanks so much for this video. You make it look so easy. Not knowing how to line it was holding me back from hopping on the granny square handbag bandwagon, lol. But now I'm up for the challenge!
Thanks!!! This tutorial is just what we needed for finishing a birthday project 🥳. Big sister made this hand bag for her little sister’s 26th birthday 🎉❤EXCELLENT Tutorial!! Directions were easy to follow and we liked that you added a pocket 😊. Really like how detailed all the instructions are. GREAT JOB THANKS
thank you so much!! i made a similar bag as a birthday gift to my best friend and i didn't know how to add lining so i was going to give it to her without a lining but i saw your video and you really helped me. i cut my fabric in the 3.30 in the morning lol 😮💨 gonna sew it tomorrow. hope it will be as good as yours
Wow, that is brilliant and you made it look so easy! I haven’t ever lined a bag but have just crocheted one that I feel would look better with a lining. So I will definitely be trying this out. Thank you for a great video with clear and easy instructions to follow! 👍❤️
This was my first time lining a crocheted bag, and since it was a weird shape I really had no idea how to do it. This video made it SOOO easy and quick, even for someone with very little sewing experience at all! Thank you so much for this tutorial
Thanks for your suggestion! Depending on how small the base is, sometimes I make it similarly to the way I do in this video, but for the bigger ones, I use a different technique that I can for sure do a tutorial for :)
Please someone answer. I crocheted my own bag, but it yawning/expand when I put something in it. everyone said I should lining it. Is it enough if I line it with a fabric like in this video? Will this prevent it from yawning?
Sorry for such a late response but yes it would help ! You’ll cut the fabric a bit smaller than the actual bag that way the fabric is carrying more weight than the crocheted purse :)
@@kimohimo60 you’ll also add something inside the straps and just crochet over it but make sure you attach the fabric (I’ve even seen people use old jeans) to the lining of the bag. That way the lining inside the purse and the lining in the straps are holding most of the purse’s added weight. Hope this helps.
I’m not sure if someone has suggested this but i think flipping the bag inside out and putting the bag in the fabric, see it and flip it back would help seeing the lining in the bag Edit: I can’t remember if they mentioned this but they cut a slit in the middle so it isn’t hard to sew it in place and it doesn’t look messy (it’ll be easier for the fabric to fold)
Thank you for this video. I'll have to sew by hand as I do not have a sewing machine. Will I have to use 'back-stitch' for sewing the lining to the bag?
Can someone help me!?! How can u add a zipper to these kind of bags? Like the ones which have 2 triangle structures upwards.... Like how and where can I place the zipper? 😢
Hi, this is a really good tutorial. I've got four weeks until uni so i want to try making this bag but instead of the cream i want to add mint green. I want to ask where you purchase your cotton fabric?
Thanks so much! I get my fabric from a store called lens mill (I believe its only in Canada), but I’ll also sometimes buy a flat cotton sheet from Walmart because it can be cheaper this way :)
I honestly don't know and definitely don't do this anymore - I was newer to sewing at the time of making this video/didn’t have anywhere else to iron (my grandma just gifted me her old iron without the board lol) I got an iron mat now :)
If you cut the lining a little bigger after you sew the seam you can turn it inside out an sew it again and the unfinished edge will be sealed in, neither side has a raw edge. I like to do it that way so you get no fraying when you wash it. With a crochet you can look through and see the raw edges also.

I don’t have a sewing machine and I have no idea what a backstitch is and how it doesn’t show… do you have a video showing that? Your tutorials are amazing. Do you need a special sewing machine foot to work over the crochet? I might have to get a machine. But I live in a camper van so space is an issue.
Thank you Alyssa very good video and explanation. Of course as I've always said, if you're doing crochet learning sewing is important as crochet is wholly. (Holey).

I am confused on adding the pocket to the lining. If you put the folded part of the pocket at the top of the bag, wouldn’t that make the pocket closed when you sew everything on?
You wouldn't sew the folded edge of the pocket to the lining, just the sides and the bottom so there is an opening between the top folded edge and lining :) . The pocket being folded is just to make sure everything looks nice and tidy - if you were to put it with folded edge downwards and the unsewn open part at the top - then you would technically have a double opening for the pocket (if that is what you were confused by)
