What sewing machine brand do you use, because I believe I may not have one big enough it keeps on jamming as soon as I try to make a stitch! Through the lining and the crochet
hey, thanks for the video! one wee question about the needle though, what size did you use? and did you use a regular machine needle or something like a ballpoint? thank you so much! 🫶🏻
@@kourtneyskinner9791 omg this exact same thing happened to me when I first tried! The solution for me was to do all of the lining in machine sewing, and then attach it with hand sewing. Hope this helps!
I hope more people are able to find this video who need help with lining. I've never done it before, and I thought it'd be impossible, but you made it look as easy as making a granny square! So excited to try this!
If you cut the lining a little bigger after you sew the seam you can turn it inside out an sew it again and the unfinished edge will be sealed in, neither side has a raw edge. I like to do it that way so you get no fraying when you wash it. With a crochet you can look through and see the raw edges also.
Thank you!!!! I am a visual learner & this post has made my day!!! Thank you for sharing this!! It’s way less complicated than I was thinking in my head.
OMG I just lined my first bag. 😀😀😀 I am ridiculously proud of myself for doing it & doing it with my sewing machine as well. Thank you Soo much for this easy to follow tutorial. I wish I could show you a picture lol I want to show everyone 😂.
this was literally so helpful. I promised to help my sister sew a lining into a bag we made and had no idea how to attach it to the fabric. I changed a few things only because our bag was slightly different so all in all really good, direct tutorial. and I actually think a good tutorial can be modified to fit the needs of the user which this one very much is! good job!
Thank you so much for this video! I just finished crocheting the squares for this bag and had NO idea how to line it. So glad I found this! Your instructions are clear and easy to follow!
Thanks!!! This tutorial is just what we needed for finishing a birthday project 🥳. Big sister made this hand bag for her little sister’s 26th birthday 🎉❤EXCELLENT Tutorial!! Directions were easy to follow and we liked that you added a pocket 😊. Really like how detailed all the instructions are. GREAT JOB THANKS
Thanks so much for this video. You make it look so easy. Not knowing how to line it was holding me back from hopping on the granny square handbag bandwagon, lol. But now I'm up for the challenge!
This was my first time lining a crocheted bag, and since it was a weird shape I really had no idea how to do it. This video made it SOOO easy and quick, even for someone with very little sewing experience at all! Thank you so much for this tutorial
Wow, that is brilliant and you made it look so easy! I haven’t ever lined a bag but have just crocheted one that I feel would look better with a lining. So I will definitely be trying this out. Thank you for a great video with clear and easy instructions to follow! 👍❤️
thank you so much!! i made a similar bag as a birthday gift to my best friend and i didn't know how to add lining so i was going to give it to her without a lining but i saw your video and you really helped me. i cut my fabric in the 3.30 in the morning lol 😮💨 gonna sew it tomorrow. hope it will be as good as yours
I've been crocheting the biggest majority of my life, usually plushes, and I made a bag for the first time for a friend. I'm excited to finally line it like I want, thanks to your video 🧡✌️
Thank you for this tutorial. I did not know how to sew a lining in a crochet bag. You explained it so well. Give you eight fingers and two thumbs up. 😁
Thank you for such a good tutorial. I had finished my bag and was at a loss of how to do a lining as I’m not the best at sewing but after watching your tutorial I feel I can give it a good go. Thanks again.
Thank you Alyssa very good video and explanation. Of course as I've always said, if you're doing crochet learning sewing is important as crochet is wholly. (Holey).
Wow this is litterally the easiest method, I always make the mistake of cutting out a sharp corner which becomes hard to fold down but this method is way easier
Oh my God! This is a lifesaver 😮 Wish I came across this video earlier when I had to attach a lining to a granny square bag I gifted to a friend 😊 Thank you 😊
Thank you so much for this, its very easy to follow and straightforward. I found it so so helpful, especially that it was my first time lining a crochet bag. This was very appreciated, again thank you so much!!!
I’m not sure if someone has suggested this but i think flipping the bag inside out and putting the bag in the fabric, see it and flip it back would help seeing the lining in the bag Edit: I can’t remember if they mentioned this but they cut a slit in the middle so it isn’t hard to sew it in place and it doesn’t look messy (it’ll be easier for the fabric to fold)
Please someone answer. I crocheted my own bag, but it yawning/expand when I put something in it. everyone said I should lining it. Is it enough if I line it with a fabric like in this video? Will this prevent it from yawning?
Sorry for such a late response but yes it would help ! You’ll cut the fabric a bit smaller than the actual bag that way the fabric is carrying more weight than the crocheted purse :)
@@kimohimo60 you’ll also add something inside the straps and just crochet over it but make sure you attach the fabric (I’ve even seen people use old jeans) to the lining of the bag. That way the lining inside the purse and the lining in the straps are holding most of the purse’s added weight. Hope this helps.
Thank you I just started learning crochet and finished one bag this video was perfect explanation. Please can you make video on how to attach a zipper as well?
Thank you for this video. I'll have to sew by hand as I do not have a sewing machine. Will I have to use 'back-stitch' for sewing the lining to the bag?
What a great tutorial!! Do you find it easier to line the bag after you have the bag made completely, or would it be even easier to put the lining onto the bag before the bag is completed? I hope this makes sense! :)
Excellent tutorial thank you, I will definitely make this my next project, I never sew with a machine when the pins are in place, I take them out just before but I see you didn’t put the foot down and kept the pins in, how do you keep a steady straight line?
Yay! I am glad my video was helpful :) I had bad scissors for the longest time too, had to cave and get new ones after struggling through so many projects 😂
I don’t have a sewing machine and I have no idea what a backstitch is and how it doesn’t show… do you have a video showing that? Your tutorials are amazing. Do you need a special sewing machine foot to work over the crochet? I might have to get a machine. But I live in a camper van so space is an issue.
hi, thanks for the great video! if i wanted this style of bag with a zipper, would you follow the zigzag of the top of the bag or just do a straight zipper further down? hope that makes sense, i’m just planning to put a zipper on mine and wonder what’s better 😅
Thanks so much! I am not sure how a zipper would work on this style of bag, I think it'd be easier to have it straight further down but then you'd lose that extra room at the top. So I am not too sure, sorry!
How did you stitch together the granny squares? I’m new to crochet and did a mattress stitch for mine but I like the look of yours better! Also super clear tutorial, I really liked it!
Thank you! I attach as I go while creating the last round of the square - I am not sure what the exact method is called, just something I figured out and liked the way it worked! The beginning of my zipper pouch tutorial shows how I attach the squares :)
Thanks for your suggestion! Depending on how small the base is, sometimes I make it similarly to the way I do in this video, but for the bigger ones, I use a different technique that I can for sure do a tutorial for :)
Hi, this is a really good tutorial. I've got four weeks until uni so i want to try making this bag but instead of the cream i want to add mint green. I want to ask where you purchase your cotton fabric?
Thanks so much! I get my fabric from a store called lens mill (I believe its only in Canada), but I’ll also sometimes buy a flat cotton sheet from Walmart because it can be cheaper this way :)
