It's amazing how a universe so advanced has so much trouble getting paint to stick to bare metal. You'd think they would have invented a good primer long before now. :)

Also wanted to comment about the laser....not sure if it will work with yours because of the protector surrounding it...but I run a fan over the laser work space to help remove the smoke to get a better burn. Sometimes I also put masking tape over the burn area to help with the unneeded fire lines.

I think it came out great Derek! Has anyone tried using the 3D printed rocker switches fabbed to work with regular switches? Like maybe a drill a hole in each and use a rollpin through the switch...hmmmm

great project, that trick with spraying the base color to help with bleeding when masking is awesome. Every one of your videos has some awesome tricks I would never have known, Keep up the awesome content.

I think it looks great. the rub and buff doesn't come across on film. The refreshing of the pinstripe brought it up a few notches for me.

For sure. With the weird reaction between the paints I needed to do something to brighten it up a bit without going too crazy.

You asked in the video if the rub and buff looked good and I think the rub and buff made it look like faded paint that was showing metal underneath more then scratched metal, but I think it still looked good 👍

Even though it didn't turn out how you envisioned it and had drying time difficulties I think this turned out great. I don't think the rub-n-buff was a bad choice. When I saw you install it, I couldn't help but think, "Hey my mom needs to paint over that for you." LOL, she paint Everything so if is going to help paint we better prep well with the masking!

I love your video's. However it's not paint chipping since no paint actually chipped so it still doesn't have the effect masking it off and then painting and peeling that satisfying feeling of actually chipped paint. Keep up the great video's

I loved how your plate and Brian's plate tell two different stories. Brian's plate has an oldImperial base vibe while your color choices leans much more to the rebellion. As always, thank you for including your trials and tribulations; valuable lessons to learn, they are!

Great job! For aging I use watercolors mixed in quickshine floor rejuvinator. Some colors are translucent and others are opaque. You can thin it with ammonia. Can be air brushed on and wiped off quickly. Ussaly no chemical reactions... for matching old wood I use I thinned oil paints and Japan dryer.

Quick question, are you making half your house Star Wars and half haunted mansion? Could you explain that? Actually that would be a cool video showing the progress of how your house looks since you make these tutorials but don’t show the whole area to see how cool and immersive it is

@4:18, your suggestion of re-applying a coat of the base color after masking is genius! It was one of those "How did I not already know that?" moments for me.
I also followed your suggestion from your Mandolorian helmet weathering video and bought some water/oil paints and they work great! They actually dry in a reasonable amount of time, but give you time to adjust / blend them before they do dry. Great stuff, they replaced my standard oils which I had pretty much abandonded use of.
