We're Colin and Samir, creators based out of Los Angeles California. We make videos about the creator economy, and the lessons we've learned over 10 years of being on UA-cam. We also interview creators and try and get to the bottom of what's working on UA-cam and where the creator economy is headed. I love raw interviews like this, it feels like you can literally hear colin and samir listening and taking everything in
It's incredible how consistently you guys deliver... the most valuable channel for creators out there.
Ok.
More creator interviews please! Would be cool to see you interview people who have built incredible channels in a weird niche.
Yo Paddy, just want to say thank you for your vids, theyve been helpful as a NewTuber
Paddy in the house 🔥
Totally agree on this one Paddy! Btw, love your videos 😊
Agreed, maybe adding an interview with creators that hasn't built a big following
Does my channel qualify?
I won't lie, I had a slightly negative opinion of Lilly Singh after seeing Drew Gooden's video about her talk show. It seemed she was quick to denounce any criticism of her show as 'hate comments' even when a lot of it was constructive and legitimate.
However, this interview left me a lot more empathetic towards her. I can relate a lot to what she's saying, even though we come from very different backgrounds. It's awful being burnt out and stressed from a job that's ultimately making you feel unhappy. Late night sounds tough, and I think Lilly's at her best in these looser formats where she's more comfortable and can just be her naturally funny self. She doesn't need a big audience and scripted monologues, and part of what makes UA-cam great is it gives us that intimacy with the creators.
I'd love to see more diverse late night hosts, and I'm incredibly happy to hear what Lilly's doing with her production company. I think relatability and success will come from, as Lilly said, 'meeting in the middle'.
Beautiful interview and thanks Colin and Samir for expanding perspectives as usual, and giving us a closer look at creators.
What you just watched is little more than a staged damage control "interview" designed solely to rebuild the horrid public image she herself created. Damn, and you fell for it hook, line and sinker.
@@hellogoodbye4061 why are u so salty damn
@@priyaramesh7196 Why are u so salty when the truth is told about Singh damn
@@hellogoodbye4061 im not salty I'm not a fan of hers either but to twist everything she does seems a bit weird
@@priyaramesh7196 Okay, let's put this into perspective. Let's say I have a late night show and night after night after night my opening monologue mocks and insults Indian women to no end.
Let's see whether you get "salty" after a while. Oh, and make sure you don't twist everything I do, as it would seem a bit weird.
I'm really enjoying these longer format videos (ie. MrBeast, Ryan Trahan, etc). I think in the future it'd be really cool for you guys to get Ludwig onto the show! He'd be a really interesting interview
Agreed
Replying to boost this comment
Agreed
For sure agree there.. my suggestion would be Joseph Carlson (favorite finance UA-camr) I think his monetization strategy is super interesting as well as consistently great growth and content
He’s such an interesting and smart creator, and it’d be super timely given his recent contract
her explanation of why the late night show was what it was and received that high level of backlash makes so much sense to me.Her not knowing anything about Late night TV, the crew figuring out how to be innovative and the new level of pressure with little time taken on personal growth is a concoction and a half. It just brought it all together and makes me realize how important it is to value quality over quantity.
this is just one of the greatest channels ever, flipping hell! I used to go through hundreds of videos, articles and blog posts just to get information like this.
Did u just say flipping??
facts bro..facts
fr
Omg hi! I didn't expect to see u here randomly lol
You have to travel far and wide on the internet to find some lame Lily Singh interview? Damn, dude, get outside more.
Didn’t like her late night show and content much but I respect her grind fr. She’s the epitome of hard work.
Tru but I hate when people say the show didn't succeed because of diversity. Nah her content not that good. Its so one dimensional.
@@craigman7262 not one dimensional, just outdated. her humor and content didn’t evolve past like 2017.
Her late night show was "Labor intensive"?....this woman hasn't broke a sweat in her entire life. Newsflash - "bashing white men" is not a "different point of view" nor "a different perspective." It is simply sexist and racist, point blank.
This was a phenomenal interview with a UA-camr that I watched a LOT back in the day. This made me respect her hustle all over again, thanks for drawing out such interesting points from her life
Issa Ray should be a person on the radar for your interviews. Should took a UA-cam show and turned it into a five season show on HBO where she is the lead role.
Hopefully in 2022
@@ColinandSamir Hey guys! Issa Rae...hopefully in 2023?
This was chock-full of value and nuggets of wisdom. Such a pleasure to hear from an OG youtuber. The closing statement was a powerful reminder that external validation shouldn't be valued too deeply.
20 minutes in and I've never known her outside of her talk show really, but it didn't do her justice. She has a great personality and is very grounded. It's hard not to like her.
Listen to her sexist and racist jokes and it will quickly become quite easy not to like her.
Didn't really expect to find this relatable, but Lilly proves to be able to do that. Nothing I do is on the scale that Lilly's was/is, but I think many of us can relate to not being able to slow down to rethink "Why am I doing this?" when we get all caught up with numbers. I think it's also so interesting people (often minorities in my experience) will end up being influenced by their broader identity instead of their self goals. Community becomes so much more prioritized. Might sound silly, but I often felt like I had to tip generously in the US because I was Asian, and I didn't want to perpetuate a stereotype that Asians are stingy with tips. It's interesting to hear that Lilly thought about what it meant for her community to do the late night show rather than saying yes because it was her own dream. Great video, guys!
The problem with network television is that they have to answer to affiliates and they're the ones who have the power to make and break a show. Kudos to Lilly for breaking the barriers and I know she'll do more.
What you just watched is little more than a staged damage control "interview" designed solely to rebuild the horrid public image she herself created. Damn, and you fell for it hook, line and sinker.
I love Colin and Samir so much. The way they are able to keep evolving, creating, moving forward is incredible and for some one trying to figure out what it is they want to do with in this industry, it’s so helpful to have them here to guide us through the creator economy and the way media influences culture.
Love to hear Samir and Lilly's perspectives on being a creator as South Asian people. Would love more interviews like these.
Colin and Samir y'all are CRUSHING it these days- I can easily see you hitting a million subs within the next several months
Dropping “we were in one of your videos as background dancers” halfway through the video was incredible. Great interview!
As an OG Lilly Singh fan, warms my heart to see how far she has come, and I grew up and evolved with her. An inspiration. Truly.
Other than her early UA-cam channel, she has accomplished little. If she is an "inspiration" to you, then you have set the bar quite low in this regard. Word to the wise, celebrity worship will only lead to disappointment in the end. Consider yourself forewarned.
@@hellogoodbye4061 lol thanks?!
@@hellogoodbye4061 bro who hurt u
@@aananbiswas2713 Yawn, aw, c'mon! "bro who hurt u" is the best insult you can come up with!? Damn, proof positive the woke lack imagination, wit and a sense of humor. No wonder you love your grrrllll Lilly here, you are two peas in a pod. Damn, who hurt u, sis? A yuk, a yuk, I'm sooooo funny!
@@madhurisajith Don't thank me, just do it...."lol" will not make this reality magically disappear. If you want to lick Lilly's boots thinking she might acknowledge your existence, then you have some things to work out with your life as a whole.
This was my favourite interview you have done to date. Really thoughtful questions and the longer format was great. It reminded me of Off Camera (in a good way!).
Keep the quality videos coming!
What you just watched is little more than a staged damage control "interview" designed solely to rebuild the horrid public image she herself created. Damn, and you fell for it hook, line and sinker.
Shout out to Lilly, she really transcended this platform, and this industry. I also randomly met her in the creator editing bay at YT Space LA, it was not a memorable moment lol 😂
If meeting Lilly Singh is the most memorable moment in your life, whoa, dude, you need to get out more.
@@hellogoodbye4061 learn how to read, it literally says ‘it was not a memorable moment lol’
@@sukhmanbhangu8126 Oops, I stand corrected, my bad!
Amazing how u guys deliver every single time 🙌.. the most valuable channel for creators out here 💯
Brilliant interview. Loved it so much and it really helped to listen. I will be re-watching! thank you Colin and Samir!
Lilly didn't get the credit she deserved for her attempt at late night and that has bothered me. From the outside looking in, the South Asian community on UA-cam were extremely critical of her and almost felt as if they were throwing her under the bus. She deserved better. Outside of her fanbase, no one cared to defend her while still offering criticism.
Bad comedy does not deserve defense from anyone just because they belong to the same community.
@@trailersfromhell2539
Defending her comedy and defending her as a person are not the same thing. If said community wants more representation in American media, it is wise not to tear down a person trying to pave the lane. Constructively criticize her comedy, yes. But the online flogging she has received from those within her own community has been nothing short of mean-spirited.
@@ljay3379 Defending her as a person does nothing if her comedy stinks.
@@trailersfromhell2539 that would be what the constructive criticism is for.
One of the most racist, white male bashing, sexist, unfunny shows in the history of television does not deserve ANY credit. Just an absolute horrid show. She deserved all the backlash she herself brought upon herself. This interview is little more than damage control to rebuild her image.
I love love love this video. I’ve grown up watching Lilly but over the last few years I’ve gotten out of touch with what she’s been doing, her ideas, and who she is. Been wanting a long format video of her talking for a while, especially in light of her NBC show. You guys did such a good job interviewing her and helping us understand her in a more complex and holistic way.
This is little more than a staged damage control "interview" designed to hopefully salvage the horrid image she herself created during her late night show debacle. Sad to see you fell for it hook, line and sinker.
lmao, I was halfway through the video and it just disappeared. I was like 'guess they went to fix that purple thing'😂

This was an insightful interview especially from an OG UA-camr I watched growing up! Love these long from content, always full of value.
I took my whole lunch break (and a little more) to watch this and hung on every word. Spectacular interview.
Lilly is a legend. As a Canadian and South-Asian, she smashed boundaries.
Also as a Canadian (as if that matters), she's a racist and sexist. Also, she's cringe as hell.
She did! She proved that POC can be just as ignorant as everyone else!
Her late night show exposed her for the sexist and racist she is. All the criticism she has received she brought upon herself. She did not "smash boundaries", rather she built walls even higher between men and women, POC and everyone else. Kinda sad really.
As I native Indian, I find her extremely cringe and her old content was only involved with white vs brown people
YOU GUYS ARE GONNA HIT 500K!!! Smashing it. Well done on getting Lilly on, love her book.
@22:55 “skittles for lunch again” 😂 🌈
watching this has made me take a good look at myself and some of my behaviours in regards to not just Lilly but other creators of colour, sexualities, etc. It’s given me a bigger perspective for things like this and it’s good lesson I can take moving forward in future
You guys have done it again. This was full of so much valuable information. Great to see how far she has come. I also loved her honest answers about her journey and her experiences. Thanks once again for this
Great content Colin and Samir! Happy to see you posting regularly.

I recently found you guys this year and I just gotta say I’m such a fan and enjoy this show and the podcast. This is such a great episode as well!
Your ads are looking soooo much better! Love this style you’re getting into!
This was such an incredible interview! Thanks so much for making it!
Damage control staged "interview" designed to repair her current horrid public image following her sexist and racist late night show. Damn, and you fell for it hook, line and sinker. Kinda sad really.
Wow I just watched this whole video, Idk what made me click on this but the inspiration was phenomenal. At the point 13:38 she said “my parents aren’t going to be here forever” I lost both of my parents by the age of twelve and eveything I do is for them but it molded me to do everything for ME AND MY HAPPINESS. I wish you all prosperity, the world needs REAL conversations like this! Much respect! I needed this and LILLY YOU’RE BEAUTIFUL! WE WILL BREAK GENERATIONAL CURSES AND GIVE THE CHILDREN BEFORE US THE BLUE PRINT AND OPPERTUNITIES! 💙‼️

This is hands down my favorite UA-cam channel, great job guys!

Love this!! ❤️
Really enjoying these creator interviews! You’re introducing me to all these OG UA-camrs that I never knew about, so it’s cool to hear their stories.
Learned tons about UA-cam AND Humans here. Thanks so much you three 🙏
Love the content and the growth of the Channel! Thanks for being a role model and the grind.
I love this longer format, interview videos you guys have been putting up. It's been really fascinating to hear the in depth background stories of some of the biggest UA-camrs. It would be really interesting to hear an interview from Ali Abdaal one day. He's been able to pivot his content fairly seamlessly throughout the years while he was a part-time doctor before transitioning to full-time youtuber. But love your channel!
6:40 - 7:15 yesss. so much yess. youtubers are a rare breed indeed. lots of hats to juggle.

I had a negative impression of Lilly Singh before watching this bc I had mostly just seen videos shitting on her late night show. But this interview gave me a lot more understanding and respect for her.
Most people dont think that shes a bad or stupid person...but the criticism of her late night show ad other classic comedy attempts is still pretty valid. I really appreciated her content for a long time but when she dived to much into the obnoxious corners of woke garbage, she lost alot of people and I totally understand that.
I still have no respect for her, she's entirely racist.
She's racist and hates men
Lilly's achievements are inspiration.
Gratitude to her and blessings for the rest of her endeavours
Yes!
This is little more than a damage control interview in a tepid attempt by Lilly to rebuild her image following her horrid late night show, which will go down as one of the most unfunny shows in the history of television, as well as one riddled with racist and sexist taunts she tried to sell off as "jokes."
Idk how I’m just watching this just now. I absolutely love Lilly and everything she is and where she’s heading. What a great conversation.
i love how i can see you guys get more and more bigger guests as you go up!
Excellent. Thanks for the great interview (once again).
This one took FOREVER to hit my algorithm, but it was by far my favorite. Keep them coming my dudes
I have never sat through a video this long and been so excited throughout! Like I love lilly and have been watching her videos since i was like 12, and as a brown bi girl myself, so much of what was said resonated with me and i just loved every moment!
honestly that jellysmack ad is how ads should be created, very well done guys. .
Going back through watching all the interviews y’all have done, this ad integration was great and I actually wanted to watch it. Great cinematic shot and style to keep my attention and listen to what you had to say
Lilly will forever be Lilly no one can’t compare or be her, so no matter where she goes we will always see her for who she is and was and support no matter where she goes and that goes for anyone and anybody.
Keep it going and never stop doing and being honest with yourself.
Thank You! She's been a huge inspiration!

I felt it was deep, meaningful, absolutely truthful and relevant conversation with a creator. Im glad you guys can bring this sort of talks to the table which hopefully inspire and help out many others all around the world 🤗
Something about the intro to the Jelly Smack ad was really beautiful
As an Indo-Canadian. seeing this interview is really inspiring! Thank you for making this. Also, I love the bikes in the background.
Daym I loved the ad. Lots of love
This channel is still underrated. You guys are on your way!
I enjoyed this so much you guys asked all the questions I've always wondered about and wanted to know lillys mindset on certain topics. Lilly is so inspirational thank you for this interview 😊🙏
Guys - what an incredible and needed conversation. Keep killing it!
Wow this was actually so unexpected and in depth I'm so glad I found this video. When Lily was talking about how she said she could move with fear or with love, but about how that is a privilege in itself literally brought me to tears, I had to pause the vid right there to come and comment this. Thank you for doing this interview, its so important❤
Hi Colin & Samir, Can you please keep your original schedule so I can watch this on my lunch break like all the videos I watch from the UK :) .
Please do an interview with Hassan too!!
LOVED this! lilly, as usual, is extremely insightful, and i really respect her for everything that's happened the last few years. ❤️
This interview has changed my perspective greatly! Such a well-done vid!! Cheers!!
I met Lilly in 2017 at one of her meet and greets in Vancouver. She was friendly and nice to everyone. So proud to see where she is and you can see that she is humble and down to earth. Definitely an inspiration and I love how she stays true to herself. Love you Lilly!!!
really enjoyed how you all encourage the guest to open up and be honest and open the floor to genuine discussion. grew up with lilly and will continue to do so :)
She should have been encouraged to address all the racist and sexist comments she made towards white men, all of which she attempted to pass off as "jokes."

These videos are why I keep coming back.
This is such a great conversation. Love this.

One of the biggest questions I want her to answer is. Is she going to try out for SNL? That is definitely something she will thrive in and probably enjoy a lot!
OH MY GOSH YES. Lilly thrives in sketch comedy and that would be an excellent bridge
