  • This poignant talk delves into finding gratitude in life's most challenging moments and teaches us how to fall or fail rather than avoid it. Drawing from his near-death experience, Blake Wittman shares insights on resilience, positive outlooks, and the power of gratitude. His story is an inspiring lesson on facing adversity with grace and finding joy in every circumstance. Blake Wittman has seen the inside of massive Fortune100 global giants as well as 5-person startups. He has a 20+ year career highlighted by a passion for people and purpose. After a short stint in Citibank Blake entered the recruitment arena and began a career focused on quality relationships, strong ethics, and a deep belief in making a positive impact. Well-known executive search firm, SpenglerFox, was started and grown across Central Europe by Blake where he personally serviced leading blue-chip financial institutions. However it was when he helped build the award-winning, venture capital-backed internet startup, Lime&Tonic, which influenced, challenged, and sharpened his view on business and the potential to impact the market. Blake is now European Business Director, and shareholder, of Good Group, which comprises GoodCall, Recruitment Academy, and Datacruit. All three companies have a common goal of waking up the recruitment industry and evolving the human relations market. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

Sometimes circumstance requires that you respond. But how you respond is still up to us. I chose to respond and fight on my own terms, as it was the only thing I could control. Definitely never give up, but giving in can be a major victory if done properly! Me standing on stage is the proof.

Its crazy that all those horrible things happened to his body but if I past him on the street I would never have thought he would of been through that! Its a interesting concept... accept horrible things happening so then you can rebuild.

Yes, you might not notice but my right foot is crooked and I still have many limitations. But learning to fall was a key step for me. Thanks for your comments and insight.

I've watched this twice already. Simply amazing. I know how broken your body was, and I continue to be amazed by the strength of your spirit -- then and now. What great lessons and new ways to think about acceptance and evolving after a fall or failure. I know you successfully skied in December. What a badass! Thanks for inspiring us and helping us think differently about things we usually try to avoid. I'm in awe.

Hi Stephanie, your words mean a lot to me. Thanks. I honestly didn't know what I was doing at the time, but when I looked back on it I realised all my learnings. A tough way to do it, but there is a part of me that is definitely grateful, even for that.

Hey Danai....I appreciate that. I tried to use those characteristics in the hospital at it worked. I'm glad it's still having an IMPACT! 👊🏼

I reached out to Blake when he was still in a wheelchair to wish him well, I remember being amazed at how upbeat he was, even joking about it!! I think most people would just want to curl up and die, not Blake though! It's both a horrific and inspiring story. Great talk Blake ❤

I went to high school in Colorado with Blake... what an inspirational story!! I remember a leader at Fortune 50 company told my younger self to be "fearless". I always cringed at this advice, because without fear we have nothing to overcome- We can use fear to create greatness

Wow. Amazing insight. Yes, I completely agree. Fear can be a great thing, similar to falling. Thanks. 👍
