This is an amazing story. How sad and cruel. It’s so important for us all to remember that those with differences or disabilities are people with so much love and have families who love them. What amazing men. Thank you for sharing them with us.
I have lived in Roanoke, VA all my life (59 years) and had never heard of Truevine until Beth Macy's book came out. I did some checking on Google and the best I can find is a community in Franklin County near Penhook and Union Hall. Both of those towns are near Smith Mountain Lake which is not far from Roanoke.
A very sad, but very interesting story. At least their mother finally rescued them from that manager. May the brothers and their family all rest in peace 🙏 Thank you very much for telling their story Heather. You and Leo have a great day 😀
An amazing story. Heather the way you tell this story is wonderful. I think you need to write a book. If you write the way you tell the stories the book would be really good. ❤
Wow, what a story! This happened alot! The circus took people with physical traits and exploited them for money!! I remember seeing these side shows when I was growing up some 60 _70 yrs ago. But I never wanted to go into the tent to see or make fun of these people. My parents would stir me clear of these specticals. I'm glad! These two men really helped their mother and to their
A most wonderful but sad story at the same time. I always love the care you give these videos. What a blessing both of you are to the memories of these folks and their families. To know about and remember the kidnappings, exibitionism, abuse and cruelty used to suppress these special people so evil men could make more money, will keep us from allowing those crimes to be repeated. If you see something SAY something.
Heather and Leo thank you for sharing this amazing and heartbreaking story!! It is sad how cruel people can be to others especially those who are disabled or different!! Glad they got to be with their momma again!!
I remember hearing about this story on a Virginia podcast called How We Got Here. Very interesting, but they were only able to find one of the men's graves.
A story well told, how sad the people who are different were treated as money making commodities 😢 I’m glad they had their own place of comfort and happiness later in life
I'm slightly confused. Where were they from? Lived from Christiansburg all the way to Staunton on I81. Trujillo va can't find. Might it be troutville? Google spells it different and that one is out by Richmond. I've never heard of them before unfortunately 😮
There are several books and videos about them, If you would like to know more. They are supposed to be from Truevine. It says a small community on the edge of Roanoke.
Hi Leo and Heather. Not sure anyway to contact you but this way. I was just watching a story about a woman named Octavia Hatcher who was supposedly buried alive. They said her husband had her dug up and it looked like she was. She’s buried in Pikeville, Ky. In the same cemetery some of the Hatfield/ McCoy’s are. There’s a weird story behind this story involving the death of her son and a doll. The doll is in the Big Sandy Museum (I think that’s what it was called) in Pikeville, Ky. It would be interesting to know more about it.
