Hi Seaaan!!! Rewatching your videos again and again on a sleepless night. 😅 I have a question I've been meaning to ask after hearing you talk about roots: What are your thoughts on root pruning rootbound aroids? For instance, when space is limited like small apartments and despite badly wanting to upsize a pot, would it be a bad decision to prune roots? Will this shock/kill aroids like the RT, MD, rare philos, etc? Let us know if you've experienced something like this 😅 I've been looking up to your videos the most and really love hearing about your insight. 😅🙏🏼
Hello, thats the first time I hear about pruning roots... my recommendation for small/limited spaces would be to propagate the plant and start over, selling the oversized plant for extra bucks 😌
your repotting/propagation videos are so therapeutic!! tried propagating using perlite as there are not many long aerial roots yet. also, how can i encourage fenestrations on its leaves? yours have pretty ones! I've had mine for months in medium to bright indirect light but it only kept on producing juvenile leaves, but the older leaves on the lower part already had fenestrations. love your videos!
Hi Sean, watching your videos for the first time. How do you spell the black product that you added to the mix?? Ur videos are very educational. Keep up the good work..
Hello… I’m wondering if that was burnt rice hull? Do DM me on instagram @bo.tan.ist for me to answer better as youtube does not notify me when you reply to my comment 😀

hey sean! i love your videos (both for the plants & because i miss traveling to asia & know we won't make it out there this year!) :( you addressed a question in this video that i've had forever & haven't been able to find the answer to but can you clarify (or point me to another video if you already covered this)- when a propagated monstera grows a new leaf, you mentioned that you have to be careful where you cut this new leaf off & that you have to be mindful of where the growth point is or the original cutting is "done" & won't grow any new leaves. can you expand/clarify where to properly cut? i couldn't tell where the growth point is that you were referring to. thanks in advance- i haven't been able to find this online anywhere! :)
Sean, thank you for your content. I really enjoy your videos. Quick question though: In your aroid mix, you add burnt rice hulls. These are not available in the U.S. Is there something else I can use or add?
The propagation should be similar to this one. I havent picked up the variegated yet, in fact I let go of the green form because they grow wayyy too fast

The tetrasperma has been on my wish list for months... i regret not buying it before the pandemic, the prices went up and it become kinda hard to find ='(. Anyway, the roots from the water and spaghnum prop were beautiful! Do you ever use root hormones for cuttings? or just let the plants do their thing
Hi Sean .. ive been following u for quite a while and loving all your videos. Ive got some qustion though ... firstly , in moss propagstion how do you water them , just flow the water throughly or u spray it ? Cos moss tends to keep the water in moss .. so it wont get root rot .. and secondly in shade and semi indoor area with ypu aroid mix , how often would you recomend on watering ? Thx a lot bro .. really apreciate it !!
Hello, first of all I leave my moss propagations out in the rain... so I must admit they are overwatered all the time and dont recommend to anyone to do this. You should only mist sphagnum moss and keep them on the dry side but humid and slightly damp as this is what will encourage the roots.
sean could you explain those node growth points a little more in detail? i bought a brasil cutting a month ago and just potted it up but there’s no new growth (only roots) and the petioles are flat, not round. does that mean they already put out that new shoot before and can’t again?
Will a damaged root node still propagate? I was drying and applying rooting hormones to the trimming and the root node bent but didnt break off completely. Wondering if it will still propagate or not likely? Thanks.
Hi there , love your content! during the water propagation, there are roots growing out from aeriel root… are they consider normal root that can be potted to soil mix? At the same time there is new leaf that seems to be going to submerge from one of the leaf stem during the propagation. Should I still keep them inside water?
You could say that. There are different designs, construction, and materials for the poles. I use all kinds depending on what I can get my hands on. Those filled with moss tend to be better…
will sphagnum moss propagation work as a rooting method for a plant that i just saved from root rot? had to cut a lot of its root system off (including a node root), and i've used rooting hormone on it and put it back in aroid soil mix. only been a few days so far, but after watching this video, your success in sphagnum moss has got me thinking. what are your thoughts?
Sphagnum moss is safer than soil for sure. Though the most sterile medium is still the perlite. I have never needed to propagate anything in perlite though... Do try out sphagnum moss propagation the moisture and airiness of the medium will surprise you.
@@onlyplants thanks Sean. So given that the plant (a small monstera deliciosa) has been in soil for four days now, should i uproot it and move it to sphagnum? Or do i do it after a few more days? Thanks so much!
Hey Sean! I’m loving your videos! I am wondering where you get your insecticidal soap? Is it made specifically for plants? Thats super interesting. I’ve never done that technique before! Great idea
Hello I make the soap. Ive got a video titled insecticidal soap on my channel so you can see what its made of. Unfortunately Indonesia doesnt allow us to ship soaps overseas without expensive permits...
@@celinef.9627 don't be sad, they become bigger fast, just let them grow upwards, that's all the plant want. If you have a plant with a long vine, put it in a sunny window and the long vine horizontal, it will grow new vines from the grow points, but that takes some time. But they are getting thicker and the leaves get bigger. I had this allways, but it takes some month. Same when you have it for long time in a hanging basket. Good growing for you two 💚💚💚
Hi, I hope you see my comment. I have a Rhaphidophora and it's shooting veryw weird colours on the leaves and stems, I was hopping If I could send you some photos for you to look at them and give me your opinion. The colours are permanent and the plant is super healthy.

At the same time there is new leaf that seems to be going to submerge from one of the leaf stem during the propagation. Should I still keep them inside water?
Yep those roots are perfect for soil, can transfer to soil when you feel its a perfecr length 😀
Hi nice information....my Rhaphidophora leaves are getting edge burns what might be the reason for this, plz suggest remedie
Could be overwatering but do send pics to my IG so we can look at it
@@onlyplants posted my plant pictures in ur inta. Waiting for your reply
The moss pole that you are pertaining to looks like jute tied around a cylindrical surface. Am I correct?
You could say that. There are different designs, construction, and materials for the poles. I use all kinds depending on what I can get my hands on. Those filled with moss tend to be better…
I am not getting aerial roots. Maybe have to wait for humid weather in the summer?
Yeah they need a bit of humidity
Misting the bits where aerial roots come out from daily helps too (but do not mis leaves)
I wish have that one too its so beautiful.
will sphagnum moss propagation work as a rooting method for a plant that i just saved from root rot? had to cut a lot of its root system off (including a node root), and i've used rooting hormone on it and put it back in aroid soil mix. only been a few days so far, but after watching this video, your success in sphagnum moss has got me thinking.
what are your thoughts?
Great idea
Hello, I make the soaps as I am a soap maker. I had an entire video dedicated to this soap so do check it out.
@@onlyplants oo! Awesome! How do I find that video?
@@onlyplants that's amazing! Hopefully I can find the soap video!
@@onlyplants do you sell the soap? I’m definitely interested if you do
May I ask where you purchased the bar of soap? That's such a great idea I'd like to try.
Hello I make the soap. Ive got a video titled insecticidal soap on my channel so you can see what its made of. Unfortunately Indonesia doesnt allow us to ship soaps overseas without expensive permits...
Please do a video on moss propagation. 😉
Want to do vids in propagation across many mediums, but maybe sometime next year yaaa
Hi sean. One question, do you soak the coco husk/chips first and dry it prior to propogation or do you use it straight?
I use them right away 😌
My RT propagation's new leaves always come out a small solid heart leaf. It might be because it's a tissue culture plant(maybe) but I don't know .
Same here.. also TC
Hey,me too...the new leaves are so tiny...nothing compared to your huge leaves...
Good growing for you two 💚💚💚
@@sihakrios6764 aw you're so sweet😊 thanks !
Thats possible... but they should grow back to a normal size given the right care. Be sure to give them good light!
Hi, from Philippines!:)
Hello 🙌🏻
💚💚💚
How often did you water the ones in sphagnum moss during that 5-week propagation period? thank you! 💚🌿😊
Lightly every day unless it rains. Do not let the moss get compacted with water. Keep it airy and fluffy.
Hi, I hope you see my comment. I have a Rhaphidophora and it's shooting veryw weird colours on the leaves and stems, I was hopping If I could send you some photos for you to look at them and give me your opinion. The colours are permanent and the plant is super healthy.
Hello their new leaves can be white in color but that is normal and will fade to green over time. Feel free to DM me @bo.tan.ist with pics. 😀
Lovely chicken mug 🐔
so cute!!
