- This is the 1959 CleanLinen model D70 twin-tub washing machine made by the “F.lli Montuori Officine Meccaniche” in Milan Italy. Back in the 1950s, during the Italian post war economy boom there were many small washing machine manufacturers; people finally got rid of the restrictions due to the WW2 and were asking for new products and appliances in order to improve their lifestyle. Many small craftsman shops started making, on a small scale, what it seemed to be one among the most requested and dreamed appliance… the washing machine… whether it was an automatic or a semiautomatic, an agitator or turbulator or a tumbler machine was not important as long as it was a machine able to free them from the fatigue of hand-made laundry. Among the many small mechanical workshop that started manufacturing washing machines, the F.lli Montuori, in Milan, created the brand CleanLinen in the early 1950s. The name had been chosen because at the time anything with a name that “sounded” like an American brand would have had more appeal to people who were identifying the idea of progress and better living with the American lifestyle also because it was advertised in any possible way as to be the “Non Plus Ultra”… As for many new small appliance manufacturer of the time, there wasn’t a real mass production but, regardless of that, it became one of the most appreciated washing machine brand during the 1950s until the mid ‘60s. Unfortunately by the second half of the 1960s, as many other brands, it went out of market not having an industrial structure capable of competing with mass production and by the early 70 only a few large companies remained and most of the small brands were bought by these large producers to diversify their production. The D70 is a typical 1950s twin-tub washing machine that uses a turbulator placed on the tub bottom to move the laundry. The machine, as most of the washer designed for the Italian and European market, has its own water heater which is placed around the washer turbulator and protected by a ring cover that allow the water to pass from its outer side traveling over the heating element and be pushed upward by the turbulator. The heater cover can be removed in order to clean both the drain and the heating element and it should be noted that the drain pipe protrudes upwards higher than the heating element so that the latter is always under water even after the wash tub has been emptied to avoid overheating in the event that the heater switch is turned on when there is no water in the tub. Beside the washtub there is the spin dryer which spin speed is 1500rpm, the machine has two independent motor for the washer side and the spin dryer and two independent water pumps. A selector placed on top of the machine between the washer and spinner tubs sets the valve to allow the water to drain from the spin dryer or washing machine, it also serves to close the drains and has two other positions that allow the water to be recirculated in the washing machine tub or to activate the suds-saver by pumping the soapy water extracted from the already washed clothes placed in the spinner for rinsing. Always on the upper part of the machine there is an oscillating arm equipped with a small shower head that allows to add clean water to the wash tub or to spray the laundry while spinning to make the spray rinse. The main control panel has three dials to power the spin dryer, the washing machine water heater and a timer that controls the wash turbulator and turns it off automatically once the set time has passed. The machine cabinet and tubs are made of porcelain enameled steel, the turbulator and the heater protective ring are of nickel-plated brass and the spinner basket is of pure aluminum. The machine is mounted on castors for easy movement and the water pipes and power cable can be stored on the rear holders. This machine is very sturdy as most of the 1950s appliances, it has been on the company catalog from the 1959 until the middle 1960s. Its washing ability is good, it can wash safely also delicate garments and can be compared to many other machines of other makers using the same washing action such as AEG, Siemens, Wamsler, Rheberg, Rondò to name a few

buonasera Candybimatic davvero un bellissimo pezzo raro e da lei conservato in maniera impeccabile come sempre..i marchi ormai poco noti alimentano molto la mia curiosita' e spero anche quella degli altri utenti..grazie per le approfondite spiegazioni che rendono super piacevole la visione dei suoi video.

Complimenti per la tua collezione! Hai una serie di macchine rarissime, mai viste in vita mia, compresa questa... Io che credevo che la mia Zoppas dell'89 fosse "d'epoca"... Sapresti per caso dirmi dove posso trovare un volume/pdf con una storia abbastanza dettagliata della lavatrice? Chissà se qualcuno si è mai messo a scriverlo, ma non mi stupirebbe, vedendo le schiere di appassionati che ci sono in giro!
Grazie per il complimento, considera che le prime lavatrici di cui si abbia notizia risalgono al tempo dei romani quindi di storia ce ne sarebbe molta da raccontare, peraltro noi siamo portati a pensare che le lavatrici siano un oggetto del '900 molti addirittura credono sia un oggetto nato nel boom economico successivo alla seconda guerra mondiale... ma non è così. L'unico libro sulle lavatrici che io conosca lo ha scritto Lee Maxwell un collezionista americano che ha costruito il suo museo, ovviamente di lavatrici esclusivamente americane che poco hanno a che fare (specialmente a partire dagli anni 60 del '900) con quelle europee. Puoi trovare il suo sito su internet e credo che tu possa ordinare il libro direttamente dal sito. Chissà, forse uno di questi giorni mi verrà voglia di scrivere un libro sulla storia dei "nostri" elettrodomestici... forse. Grazie per il tuo commento e Buona Domenica
@@CandyBimatic Effettivamente anche nel campo delle macchine per scrivere (di cui sono mezzo collezionista) si è sempre portati a pensare che sia nato tutti con Olivetti, quando bisogna andare indietro di un buon secolo e mezzo per studiarne le origini...

Beh dal cembalo scrivano in avanti le macchine da scrivere ne hanno fatti di passi come pure le calcolatrici meccaniche... anch'io ho la mia collezione di macchine da scrivere e calcolatrici meccaniche di cui sono molto orgoglioso e che ho collezionato quando lavoravo in un negozio di riparazione/vendita di macchine da scrivere e calcolatrici per arrotondare la mesata... erano i primi anni 90 e c'erano ancora i negozi che vendevano/riparavano le macchine da scrivere così tra una riparazione e l'altra ho imparato a restaurarle grazie agli insegnamenti del padrone del negozio, storico riparatore della mia zona, che dagli anni 40 faceva quel lavoro: riparazione e restauro di macchine da scrivere e calcolatrici meccaniche, e chi più di lui ne poteva conoscerne i segreti visto che ha vissuto gli anni d'oro di quelle macchine... comunque non metterò in video le macchine da scrivere perché mi dà già troppo da fare occuparmi dei video delle lavatrici.
@@CandyBimatic Cavoli... Al giorno d'oggi sapere come mettere le mani su quelle macchine è una vera fortuna. Io ad oggi non ho trovato nessuno in grado di insegnarmi un po' di cosette, per cui quando devo mettere le mani sulle mie macchine o su quelle di qualche amico navigo nell'ignoranza e cerco per ogni ora di lavoro di passarne prima 10 a documentarmi e indagare. Sono fermo alle Olivetti degli anni '50 (Lettera 22, Studio 44, Lexikon 80), che conosco abbastanza bene, una L22 II serie l'ho fatta rinascere dopo che aveva preso acqua... Ma da qui a definirmi un restauratore c'è di mezzo un abisso... Per tacere delle competenze che devono servire per mettere le mani su una Divisumma 24, che nuova costava come una Fiat 500... Massimo rispetto.
Le Olivetti sono macchine semplici da sistemare, l'importante è che per metter mano ad una calcolatrice meccanica ti devi fare il deserto intorno e munirti di quaderno, calibro e goniometro per controllare passi e rotazioni e poi tanta pazienza... oggi con gli smartphone che ti permettono di fotografare tutto nel dettaglio è molto più semplice perché fatta la foto sei sicuro di avere un riferimento per tornare al punto di partenza qualora dovessi "perdere la bussola", quando ci lavoravo io i cellulari non c'erano e la foto era la tua mente, l'esperienza e le misure che avevi riportato sul tuo bravo quadernetto oltre alla procedura per la taratura. Le macchine da scrivere Olivetti invece sono veramente semplici... te ne accorgerai il giorno in cui dovessi metter mano ad una IBM Executive degli anni 60 o ad una Everest o Imperial per non parlare delle Ramington... se poi devi metter mano ad una macchina elettromeccanica a sfera di prima generazione allora si che ti devi ritirare in clausura dal momento in cui allenti la prima vite fino a quando non hai finito di sistemarla. Comunque ci sono le procedure da seguire una volta che le hai imparate e che conosci la macchina sai già qual è il problema al primo sguardo. In assoluto, a parte una caduta rovinosa da una certa altezza, la cosa peggiore che potesse capitare ad una macchina da scrivere era quando il proprietario nell'intento di farla funzionare meglio metteva quel maledetto olio d'oliva al posto di un olio sintetico... la maledetta malattia degli italiani di credere che l'olio d'oliva sia la panacea di tutti i mali... se c'è una cosa schifosa che combina guai è proprio quel maledetto olio d'oliva, impasta tutto, si rapprende al punto di diventare gommoso, irrancidisce, puzza orribilmente e per toglierlo non ci sono sgrassatori o svitol che tenga va dissolto in un bagno speciale immergendo tutta la macchina intera così com'è togliendo le parti in gomma, legno e plastica prima dell'operazione. Quando arrivavano macchine "sott'olio", come le chiamavamo in laboratorio, completamente bloccate e puzzolenti c'era il fuggi fuggi generale, nessuno che ci voleva lavorare e spesso per macchine da scrivere economiche rifiutavamo la riparazione perché sarebbe costata quasi come una macchina nuova. Avevamo appeso un cartello ben in vista con scritto "Se hai messo l'olio d'oliva nella tua macchina da scrivere le hai appena prenotato il funerale! Portala qui per la pulitura fin tanto che ancora funziona, quando si bloccherà sarà troppo tardi!" ... :-)

3kg per load. The spin dryer basket has slot shaped holes around the base.
