The dime oddity you found appears to be a Capped Die. There was another coin stuck to one of the dies. Typically the hammer die. It gets thinner each strike. That's how the image comes through. Yours appears to be a mid-late die state.

What's the point of collecting the copper? I am not an expert but melting down coins for their metal price is not legal I thought. Genuine question.

In the high millions isn't a low mintage its a common coin a 1 to 3 million would be a low mintage
When a coin is 50million for 1 year and 2 billion for all other years... its low mintage in my book... or at least lower mintage.
