I was gonna say that. It’s subtle, hopefully they will add a more visible effect when you hit those pegs, because the slight “damage taken” noise is not easy to notice in a fight with this much going on.
By the sounds of it. There was such a large gap in updates because they implemented a lot of the groundwork so they could start putting out new content more consistently.
Yeah if they didnt start the design with multiple characters in mind, you need to do quite a bit of redoing in order to add another character, especially since you have unlock conditions and their own individual cruciball progress. Like, a lot of global things would have to be made into character specific things, whereas before you could have a global cruciball counter now you need to have 2 counters and anything that checks for cruciball to be adapted to accept both counters depending on conditions.
I believe the reason that you lost the damage for that one shot in the final fight was because you hit the burning pegs which did enough damage to diminish the ballwark into nothing

The tomahawk's good when you get down to low health, and the balladin is good at staying alive if you happen to be on low health. If it can basically instakill enemies when you really need to end a fight it doesnt matter if it isnt great the rest of the time

I believe apart from irresponsiball consuming ballwark stacks, you were losing them from the burning orbs in the boss fight. The damage of the burning orbs was easy to miss because of the bugged out ballwark icon and your HP healing. Also, thank you tyler.
I noticed the edit does not show the board as much and tylers decisions on the directions he goes. I liked how it added context to the run and something seems to be missing without it. Thanks for the videos as always amd great work

They pushed a couple minor updates in the past couple months, a few new orbs and one or two relics, but they’ve mostly been focusing on getting the content together for 0.9. They’ve got some bugs to iron out on this patch and then one more character planned iirc, and then the full 1.0 release.
26:03 So the reason why your Ballwark effect dissapeared before you even fired the orb at the dragon is because of the dragon's unique attack! After the dragon breathes fire on you, some of the pegs on pegboard become flaming pegs that deal small amount of damage when you hit them! And because your Ballwark's shield number was really small, a few of those pegs were enough to negate the protection and the Irresponsiball's bonus damage. It's unlikely that Tyler will see this comment, but I'm writing just to clear some of the things out for other people too.
7:45 the gaining it after you shoot is probably because interactions with things like Wand of Skulltimate power and red bombs Like at 21:15 you take the red bomb damage and then gain the Ballwark - this means the Ballwark gained that turn won't save you from red bombing yourself to death, and also means you'll have Ballwark for things like repostal service and irresponsiball

It's kinda sad that the orbs and relics stray from the idea of pegboard further and further. It would be nice if they added a bunch of items that made random pegs bigger, created peg structures like half circles of pegs on the board or something else

EG: red bombs inflict their damage before the attack, so it would make almost impossible stuff like has happened several times, where Tyler's relics allow him to get in a near infinite loop of refreshing and detonating red bombs to 1 shot himself.
You will never fail to amaze me with your ability to masterfully solve most puzzles put in front of you, yet inability to immediately discern basic and logical gameplay tropes such as that the fiery pegs damage you and therefore removes your Ballwark.

The mechanical difference of ballwark applying at the end of turn is that you get 1 extra from oil instead of twice as much... except another orb does give it right away and its exactly as broken as it sounds
For those who don't know, there is another character as well that you also have to unlock through an achievement which is far harder in my opinion than bulwark one to get. it's to get 50 stacks of poison on an enemy at one time, which considering most i can see is 6 stacks building at a time, reducing by 2 each round & dealing 10* number of stacks per tick it's pain to get as nearly everything (even mines 3 boss almost dies before u can stack it with only low hitting maxed bullion stings (6 stacks per) & piercing) so good luck to anyone who's going to that character, my best advice is just go for cruciball 10 so bosses have bonus hp allowing u a bit more time to stack

Have you tried the roundlin? It's pretty interesting, you apply a random debuff every attack (so like sometimes you might do extra damage from ballution, or stop them from progressing with thorns). You unlock it with the poison IV achievement (reach 50+ ballution on one enemy). My suggestion is to go against the wall with a Douball Douball and either the Ballution's sting or Toil and Trouball
25:55 The burning pegs seem to deal 2 Damage to you when hit. Which stripped your Bullwark, thus negating the Irresponseball. I guess with that foe, self damage from hitting many pegs is the danger. So you want balls with high damage/peg to not kill yourself. Basically that boss was your hardcounter, stripping Bullwark and punishing you for that Matriorbshka.

The reason the orb was losing all it’s damage at the end there was that the boss set the pegs on fire, thus when you hit them you’d lose bulwark and lessen the strength of your orb.
i'm guessing the reason why protectorb/bucklorb don't add ballwark during the shot is so essential oil only adds +1 after the shot, instead of potentially doubling the gain
Gaining ballwark after attacking is most likely handled that way to make the relic that gives one more every time ballwark is gained not completely bonkers
The reason your irresponsiballs weren’t doing damage on the dragon fight was because of the pegs on fire.
They consumed your armor
Same reason you don't get armor until after attacking, instead of while hitting pegs.

Since the refresh activated nearby pegs, it probably hit a lot of fire at once taking out a big chunk of armor when he hit it
