George Raft plays Johnny Allegro to perfection, a reformed convict who falls for the very beautiful Nina Foch, who, back during her hey days was one of the loveliest femme fatale. I have seen her play both a good person, law abiding; and the opposite role. Any movie with her in it, is bound to be good. The storyline is excellent and suspenseful and the ending is well tailored, keeping people to guess the outcome. These movies from the 40's and 50's are invaluable and entertaining to watch.❤
Do see Nina Foch in 1948's "The Dark Past", she's great and very believable as the gangster's moll. I recall Nina fondly in 'The Ten Commandments' as Moses' adoptive mother when she finds him nestled in a basket that was placed in the rushes of a lake.
Johnny Allegro, Johnny Apollo, Johnny Cool, Johnny Dark, Johhny O'Clock, Johnny Stool Pidgeon.... Those makers of gangster movies are clearly infatuated with one first name.... Hahaha, all that safari taking place in tuxedo with tie or bowtie, the hair perfectly groomed à la James Bond. Not a particularly clever plot (there's hardly any real detective work going on, the climax was as predictable as the major colour on the Poles) but very decent soundtrack, I've noticed. I never was a big fan of Raft, he is somewhat wooden, emotionless and his eyes rather feminine like some kind of charm singer, but well, you'll watch till the end. Nina Foch was elegant, but I prefer to see the vicious femmes fatales of real Film Noir (this movie isn't) like sceming Lizabeth Scott, the underrated Gloria Grahame (deliciously evil), the correctly rated Barbara Stanwyck, the real queens of the genre. I'd rate this movie 7 tot 7,5/10 but the soundtrack 8 to 8,5. Just my 0,03 $ opinion, inflation taken into account here...

Grandpa Walton.
She was also in Spartacus with Kirk Douglas and American in Paris with Gene Kelly. There's something tantalizing about her!
Really enjoyed this! Full of intrigue!
Love the pickup scene. 💋
Grandpa Walton!😅
Another "Johnny" movie! There are lots of them, more than any other name in a movie title.
Gee! I never knew Florida had rocks on the beach and Hills.
Congrats retroscoop....readable, educational, fun review.
Why after rolling around in the dirt is Johnny's suit spotless?

… Johnny Eager 🍿
He's going to need a wardrobe if he intends on spending any time on that island
Is this the same island upon which Gilligan was stranded?
Johnny is well dressed to be traipsing around a jungle fighting and dodging arrows
The guy that plays Morgan Fallam in this movie always is bad guy. I remember him on Peyton place when I was young. Does anyone know his name?
George Macready. IMDb has all the info on everything. Internet Movie Database.
