    I bought my 2015 GT on January 9 2015 and have not noticed any noise or rattles. I think it's a fairly quiet car and it feels solid. I'm very happy with my purchase.

    By FAR the most detailed Mustang GT performance package review on all of UA-cam (and I've watched a lot!). This review actually describes a lot of driving details no one else either notices or just doesn't bother to mention. Great work.
    On a side note, I wish there was an option to have 3.31 or 3.55 gears when ordering the PP since many have said 3.73 is just too short for around town city driving. It also it's very fun if you can't hook up the rear tires during those 1st and 2nd gear pulls right?! :)
    Also, EPA fuel economy ratings have been updated for the 3.73 gearing and is 14 city/23 hwy vs 15 city/25 hwy with the 3.31 gearing (US MPG).

    Great video Jason! I too am surprised by your experience of excessive road noise as my ecoboost is really quiet inside. Great to hear your thoughts on the GT though! Those 3.73 gears seem a little short to me but I'm glad to hear that you can still get decent fuel economy on the highway with these gears. I'd personally rather have the 3.55s or 3.31s instead.

    • @ZepG
      @ZepG 8 років тому +4

      +subaruwrxfan Why on earth would you want the 3.31gears on a GT?

    • @3star2nr
      @3star2nr 8 років тому

      So I drove the 3.3 and 3.73 back to back. these cars have so much power it's hard to really tell the difference just from nailing the accelerator.
      where you feel the 3.73 is when your on the highway or zipping through traffic in 5th or 6th.
      with the 3.73 you don't need to down shift just press the gas and the car hauls ass. even in 6th on the highway it's fast enough to pass people without down shifting.
      as for fuel mileage my car with 3.73 gears gets 13.5 reliably around city with lots of lights. and 23-24 mpg on the highway.
      I typically travel 70-80 engine revs at 2000rpm on the highway.

    • @3star2nr
      @3star2nr 8 років тому

      +ZepG imho the 3.3 is better for heavy city usage.
      you can put it in 3rd or 4th and cruise.
      with the 3.73 5th is basically like a 4th gear in a regular 5speed manual.
      below 4th the gears are pretty short

    • @jev2867

      +3star2nr
      3.55 is the sweet spot. If you're race a lot whether stop lights or road course, the 3.73 is what you need. 3.31 is wasting the Mustang's potential.

  • @Unb3arablePain
    @Unb3arablePain 8 років тому +6

    The conditions aren't helping but to launch a big heavy muscle car like that you do *NOT* want to do a clutch drop (unless you're on a prepped surface). Instead, raise the RPM's a little and release the clutch quickly so it slips but doesn't cause the tires to spin. As soon as the clutch is all the way out, roll onto the throttle (don't just floor it or you'll lose traction) and you should get good times.

    • @oldfashionedwrx3574
      @oldfashionedwrx3574 8 років тому

      +Unbearable Pain I agree... I got good at launching a WRX, and i can launch v8 rwd's pretty good...
      Clutch slip applies in rwd too as they have decent traction...
      dumping the clutch will destroy the rear diff/axles/transmission/prop shaft.
      if you slip it right, it won't feel as fast as dumping the clutch i found but you're going much faster... and to an outside observer that'll see your car rocket off the line with no wheel spin.

    Very interesting that your tester was not quiet inside. My base GT is VERY quiet inside, which makes it very easy to hear all of the interior trim squeaks and rattles (SMH), but I suspect that your tester had a window or door sealing problem as these are pretty quiet cars for the most part.

    I think when we think of weight we have to remember that in racing we remove everything to make the car lighter, this car isn't meant to race despite the general thought we put into what GT and Mustang mean. on the other hand they offer more engine options to choose from along with more track focused Mustangs like the GT350. I worked on a race track where a Spec Racer ford would out run pretty much anything except other race specific cars. I'd take a GT and have fun with changing things out with lightweight materials or simply removing things I wouldn't use if speed and weight were that big of a deal. there will always be sacrifice when it comes to street cars.

    I just bought a 2015 mustang gt premium but I think it's missing a lot of premium options. It doesn't have recaro seats, no shaker audio nor subwoofer in trunk. Door speakers are only one at the bottom on each door. It took me a few years to save 28,500 dllrs to pay for it cash. Working at a convenience store pays next to nothing so saving money is a hard thing to do. Mustang is a premium gt but just missing some options on it. Thanks for the video and late response to it.

    3800 LBS* just to correct you, just over 3800 lbs... and with the SS now at 3600 this is quite an issue.

    • @MrNicholg
      @MrNicholg 8 років тому

      +john learoux C&D reported one GT at 3782lb and another at 3817lb. Must be trim package differences.

    • @Flakey86
      @Flakey86 8 років тому +4

      +john learoux The base trim is 3,705 LBS it gains 100 lbs with all the extra speakers and crap in the premium package. Lighter is better but on cars this heavy we're talking about less than 3% difference. Also keep in mind that the new Camaro is on a next-gen architecture after coming back from it's very bloated 5th gen platform. The mustang is still on the same chassis architecture as the S197. In the end it's good that GM has stepped up the Camaro, because the competition makes all of these cars better for us, the consumers. :)

    • @bobhope4288
      @bobhope4288 8 років тому +2

      +GadgetsNGear You can get that 3,705 down even lower by opting for the Recaros (like in the video) because the Recaros are manual seats and the default seats are motorized seats it cuts 25lbs per seat, so you can actually have a 3655lb mustang 5.0. There was a guy on the mustang forum that had that combo and after removing all the spare tire junk was just blow 3620lbs.
      Also if you join the Mustang Club of America(for $50), you get Ford family member pricing and that car drops to $30k without the recaros and aprx. $31,500 with the recaros. Making the camaro $6,000-$7,000 more expensive.
      Edit: also the S550 chassis doesn't share anything with the S197.

    • @matthewd6306

    • @matthewd6306

      +john learoux The 2016 Camaro ss manual is rated at 3685. Not 3680. The Base GT with PP is rated at 3730. Replace the resonator with an X or H pipe and you're under 3700. The weight is very similar between the two cars and Chevy had more than a Year to try to 1 up Ford. Its a back and forth game, always has been. The GT350r is king right now on the track, and the next Z28 could top it when it releases.

    Kind of a confusing point for me - Why does lower gearing help the car accelerate better if it can't put down all the power (aside from the torsen diff)? Or does it not make a difference until it reaches a speed where it can put down all the power?
    Think it'd be worthwhile for you to get a set of tire blankets for testing cars on cold days?

    • @EngineeringExplained
      @EngineeringExplained  8 років тому

      As you mentioned, it only helps when you're no longer traction limited. The tires and road were a bit too cold, in different environments it'd be much quicker.

    • @3star2nr
      @3star2nr 8 років тому +1

      it DOES put down the power just fine, the tester doesn't know what hes doing.
      my car hooks and hauls ass off the line.
      if you hop off the clutch or if the road is wet it will spin the tires, especially in sports + mode but the traction control does an excellent job of keeping you hooked up.
      that said the factory tires are for handling and high speed cornering they aren't for drag racing. on a twisty road is where these cars come alive if you have the courage to step on them.
      they will pull alot of gs in corners

    • @diez0305

      It starts at $33K, and even the base model trim is a very good value compared to what you can find performance wise from european manufacturers

    • @SS8styles
      @SS8styles 8 років тому

      +Danny Diez that's true, the base looks like the way to go value-wise. Usually I'm down for that, but having sat in a few mustangs, I really like the recaro's, performance pack, and the interior of the premium. Ford is good at giving you FOMO with their options...maybe i gotta go lightly used, like 6-12K miles. Still, waiting on the consensus for the new camaro too tho..

      +Xmvw2X Nope, first GT I've driven.

    • @Xmvw2X
      @Xmvw2X 8 років тому

      +Engineering Explained I'm the inverse. I've gotten to autocross a 2014 GT with the Track Pack, but I have yet to drive the new gen. I've sat in one during an auto show, but that's it. I found the previous GT quite fun to drive, one of the more fun cars I've driven in years, slight understeer but adjustable with throttle. It felt top heavy, but that was more so a problem of sticking to soft springs and having very little damping control (and this is with the track pack which I found oddly soft). The car felt soft, not specifically twitchy, but really sensitive to ham-fisted inputs because of poor inertia control which will likely end up in a spin or at least a good slide that you have to then correct.
      It'd be fun to drive both gens back to back just to see what they retained and how big of a change the new rear end offers. A more interesting aspect is just how much cheaper the old gen is getting. As long as you're 2011 or newer, you're getting the higher HP engine of that generation and are getting it at sub $20k.

    • @jeffbeasley8235
      @jeffbeasley8235 8 років тому

      +frankth3frizz In terms of cornering ability, having more weight closer to the ground makes the car much more responsive. Having a shorter wheelbase also makes the car more maneuverable (and as a consequence, a smaller moment of inertia).

    I love the look of these new Mustangs, but I could never justify buying one with such poor fuel economy. Too heavy and too much power for me. I have no need or desire to go 150+ mph, but I DO have a desire to get off the line without wheel spin and torque steer. I know these weren't ideal conditions, but in my opinion, it still seems unbalanced.

    You buy a V8 and you want it to be quiet inside!? U need a Prius, or some other sedan, not this kinda car! You have this sorta cars because of the power, the rumble and just purely how those horses make you feel!

    • @EngineeringExplained

      +lukgaroo I guess you didn't hear the part about where I felt the exhaust was a bit quiet?

    • @lukgaroo
      @lukgaroo 8 років тому

      +Engineering Explained I did. I actually watch your videos religiously lol! ;-) The quiet part, I think most manufacturers do it that way even for high BHP output stock cars. It's the owner that ends up letting those horses free to scream later hehe.
      I believe the reason for that (quietness), maybe because of some law on certain countries, manufacturers need to meet certain standard like emission, exhaust volume etc.
      Where I come from (unfortunately) I have to have my car inspected every 2 years, and when it reaches a certain age, it's every year and one of the tests is the exhaust decibel reading. Apart from this, a cop, with all authority escort you (at anytime) to the test center for further checks just because you have a noisy exhaust or one that isn't approved! ;-(
